British Architecture #1 Central Library, Blackpool, Lancashire.
Welcome to my channel.
This channel is mainly dedicated to videos of my hometown, Blackpool, Lancashire, England.
This is a new series for my channel where I'll be showing examples of British Architecture around Blackpool and sometimes other places.. :) I hope you enjoy the series.
This video is our main Library in the town. There are other smaller ones, but none as beautiful looking as this one. I'll maybe do some other libraries at some point.
Blackpool is a beautiful seaside town on the north west coast of England.
We have many cool attractions here including our world famous Blackpool Tower, the Pleasure Beach, three piers and a lovely sandy beach..
Blackpool is a relatively poor town that gets (unfairly in my opinion), a lot of bad press..
The aim of my channel is to show Blackpool in a better light..
No town or city is perfect so it's best to appreciate the good parts wherever you live :)

The Sad Demise of Marton Library, Blackpool UK
A short film that hi-lights the plight of beautiful old buildings. In particular, and somewhat of a personal crusade, an old library situated in Blackpool, which is in Lancashire in the UK. What was once a lovely library, somewhere I spent many happy hours as a child, is fast becoming a crumbling ruin, a victim first of council budget cuts that closed it in 2004, and secondly, a developer who has promised a sympathetic development of flats that will retain many of the original features but who has yet to start work. I feel a terrible sadness that this building is slowly dying and frustration that I am powerless to do anything about it, other than this homage. This building feels personal to me, but there are many others that people feel a strong affinity for, buildings that are slowly crumbling away too.
This is not a personal attack against the developer, I'd actually like to see their plans succeed. This is about saving one of Blackpool's finest buildings.

38 Blackpool Central Library and Grundy Art Gallery
Turn left into Abingdon Street at Molloy's public house. This was originally known as The Railway Hotel. Catholic church services were held in the cellars before Sacred Heart Church was built. Cross Queen Street and continue to Springfield Road, noticing Central Library and Grundy Art Gallery (38) on the right. The Job Centre stands on the site of Christ Church, a cobble and brick built church constructed in 1866.
Central Library and Grundy Art Gallery (Listed) Designed by Cullen, Lochhead and Brown in a free Baroque style and opened in 1911, the library building was funded by philanthropist millionaire Andrew Carnegie. The corner entrance, with curved colonnade of six Ionic columns surmounted by a balustrade and an octagonal dome, is flanked by
identical frontages to Queen Street and Abingdon Street. Over the doorway is a stained glass window showing the Borough crest. This window was restored in 1999 as a Millennium gift from Blackpool Civic Trust. Blackpool Council commissioned the building of the Grundy Art Gallery in 1908 following a bequest of thirty-three artworks and a financial gift from brothers John and Cuthbert Grundy, both of whom were artists. The gallery first opened to the public in 1911. The Art Gallery is attached to the library on the Queen Street side. The style of the art gallery is similar but not identical to that of the
Central Library and the simple but elegant interior remains relatively unchanged. The gallery hosts an extensive programme of temporary exhibitions from established and emerging artists, together with displays from its collection of Victorian and modern
British painting.
Fortinet Customer Testimonial Blackpool Council
A major town of nearly 150,000 people, Blackpool is a well-known holiday resort and third largest settlement in North West England, after Manchester and Liverpool. Blackpool Council provides network services for all the state schools and public libraries in the area, as well as for a multitude of its own office and logistics sites. Broadband connectivity speeds for the sites have been increasing exponentially, particularly for the 40 schools in Blackpool that each run at between 10Mbps and 100 Mbps.

Places to see in ( Poulton Le Fylde - UK )
Poulton-le-Fylde, commonly abbreviated to Poulton, is a market town in Lancashire, England, situated on the coastal plain called the Fylde. At the time of the Norman conquest Poulton was a small agricultural settlement in the hundred of Amounderness. The church of St Chad was recorded in 1094 when it was endowed to Lancaster Priory.
Poulton has the administrative centre of the borough of Wyre and is in the parliamentary constituency of Wyre and Preston North. It is part of the Blackpool Urban Area and approximately 5 miles (8 km) from Blackpool town centre; there are rail links to Blackpool and Preston, and bus routes to the larger towns and villages of the Fylde. Poulton has a library and two secondary schools; Baines School and Hodgson Academy. There is a farmers' market once a month and since October 2011 there has been a weekly market on Mondays in the centre of the town.
Poulton-le-Fylde stands 19 feet (5.8 m) above sea level. It is approximately 5 miles (8 km) north-east of Blackpool and approximately 16.5 miles (27 km) north-west of Preston. It is situated on the Fylde, a coastal plain that is approximately a 13-mile (20 km) square peninsula. The town is on flat, slightly raised ground, approximately 1 mile (2 km) from the River Wyre and 3 miles (5 km) from the Irish Sea.
Poulton's public spaces include the Jean Stansfield Memorial and Vicarage Park, Tithebarn Park and the Cottam Hall Playing Fields. The Jean Stansfield Memorial and Vicarage Park is close to the town centre. It was built in 1955 on the grounds of the town's former vicarage, sold to Poulton Council in 1951. Tithebarn Park, north-west of the town centre, was built on the site of a former railway halt, Poulton Curve. It features grass play areas.
Poulton town centre has been a Conservation Area since 1979 and 15 buildings and structures in the town have been designated as listed buildings by English Heritage for their special architectural, historical or cultural significance. The market place at the centre of Poulton is the width of two streets and is now closed to motor traffic.
Poulton-le-Fylde railway station, on the line between Kirkham and Fleetwood was originally situated at the bottom of the Breck, the road leading north out of Poulton. Poulton is approximately 13 miles (21 km) west of the M6 motorway and is linked to it by the M55 at Greenhalgh. There are A roads to Fleetwood, Blackpool, Preston, Garstang and Lancaster.
( Poulton Le Fylde - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Poulton Le Fylde . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Poulton Le Fylde - UK

Blackpool Royal Visit 06/03/19
The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge visiting Blackpool Central Library, William stopped to talk to a very wet 8 year old Lucy from Cleveleys, she asked him if he was reading books in the Library, she also discovered that he loves visiting Blackpool and that he also enjoyed going on the rides at the Pleasure Beach. I am sure that this is a day Lucy will remember for the rest of her life.
Lucy is turning this into a geography project, please spend a moment to comment with where in the world you are watching this video.
Many thanks :)
