Red Rock Canyon/Blakiston Falls- Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta, Canada: Still Photo
This very short video showcases the beauty of Red Rock Canyon and Blakiston Falls (both on the same trail) in Waterton Lakes National Park in Alberta, Canada. The trail is only about 1 1/2 miles total and flat. Wateron Lakes NP is situated just above the Montana border at Glacier National Park and is known for the infamous Prince of Wales Hotel. We visited the park in July of 2014. Thanks for watching and hopefully, you'll check out more videos...and maybe evem subscribe? Phil 4:13
Blakiston Falls & Snowshoe Trail - Waterton Lakes National Park
The Blakiston Falls Trail starts right at the end of the Red Rock Parkway where there are bridges and interpretive signs for the three creeks that come together as one. A short walk up Blakiston Creek brings you to the lovely Blakiston Falls where there are two different vantage points. Beyond that, the trails meanders up along Blakiston Creek ducking in and out of trees. Mountain Goats can be seen grazing in the hills above. The hill then begins to climb aggressively and you reach a trail junction heading south to Lone Lake or north to Twin Lakes. I went north so I could loop back to my car via the Snowshoe Trail.
By the time you reach the aforementioned junction, you are up in the alpine with trees such as the Subalpine Larch and Subalpine Fir as well as birds and flowers of the high country. You visit magnificent ponds and lakes as you go over ridges to new drainages and amazing cirques. If you're coming from the south as I was, you'll come to the quaint Lower Twin Lake first, then Upper Twin Lake where you can camp. Upper Twin Lake is at the base of the red cliff walls and looks up to Sage Pass. A side trip up Sage Pass yields wonderful views and brings you to the border of Waterton Lakes National Park.
As you head on down from Upper Twin Lake, the trees get denser and you end up on the Snowshoe Trail Campground which is surrounded in trees. From there the trail is a freeway where two can easily walk side by side as it's an old road. You follow Bauerman Creek out to Red Rock Canyon where you duck in and out of trees and meadows. It's a great place to see a variety of birds and the wooded mountains are wonderful. This section of the trail can be traveled by bicycle.
Overall a great couple of trails. I'm not sure I'd make the Blakiston Creek portion part of my trip as the Lone Lake section all the way to Twin Lakes and out Snowshoe or perhaps around Avion Ridge might be more enjoyable.

Blakiston Creek Trail - Waterton Lakes National Park
The Blakiston Creek Trail trailhead in Waterton Lakes National Park, is right before the bridge over Blakiston Creek as you make your way to the Crandell Lake trailhead. This trail follows Blakiston Creek on the north side between the creek and the Red Rock Parkway.
It starts out in fairly dense foliage, then comes out into the beautiful mountains that drivers of the Red Rock Parkway love. It continues to duck in and out of trees and meadows as well as coming right up to the creek and far away from it as the creek winds around the north slopes of Crandell Mountain. Eventually the trail meets up with the road entering Waterton where you can take the trail all the way to the Visitor's Center.
If you pair this trail with the Crandell Loop trail, you can have one very large loop and a chance to see quite a variety of terrain. The trail does get a bit long and you will be hiking close to the road for some of it, causing you to lose that in the middle of nowhere feel, but you will spend a large amount of time all by yourself as this trail doesn't receive the traffic that others do.

Waterton Lakes National Park Hiking: Bertha Lake // Road Trip 2019
Waterton Lakes National Park -- As beautiful as Banff? Certainly smaller, and less crowded! But man, this place is picturesque. Incredible hikes, crystal clear lakes, beautiful views, and a tiny tow -- Waterton Village -- with all the amenities you need, whether you are camping, RVing, or staying in a hotel. Waterton Lakes National Park is like a warm-up to Banff -- less popular, less famous, and incredibly beautiful. We loved our time in Waterton!
Now off to Banff!

Red Rock Canyon, Waterton Lakes National Park, Canada
Beautiful drive. You can see bears and elk if you're lucky. Red Rock Canyon Visitors Centre at the end of the road with lots of parking. Drive is about 10 miles, one way, all paved with numerous pullouts to stop and enjoy the spectacular views. End of parkway is Red Rock Canyon parking with nice quick walk along the river with exposed red rocks on each side, easy to do in 30 minutes if you are pressed for time, but serene enough to stay and relax for longer. Easily accessible and plenty of photo opps. Must admit it is great for the kids. There are longer hikes but often the longer hikes are closed due to bears in the area.
On the road too and back, If you are lucky enough to see a bear, be prepared for what they call a bear jam. Whenever you stop people slow down to see what you are looking at. If you go in September or October should be able see the elk. They gather in a large area for what is referred to as the elk rut and bugling. Anyone in the area can tell you where they are.

Lineham Falls - Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta, Canada

Mt. Crandell (Bear's Hump Route) - Waterton Lakes National Park (Alberta, Canada)
2017-06-17 -- Mount Crandell sits adjacent to the village in Waterton Park. There are several ways to the top but the most challenging non-technical route (i.e., scrambling) is the ascent via Bear's Hump. This path requires a patience, good gloves and pants, careful route finding and some decent scrambling skills.
EDIT: Unfortunately, from Sept. 10-11, '17 many of the trees and other vegetation on this route burned in the Kenow Mt. Fire.

Due to People using my videos without permission I will post this at the top of my original videos, rather than at the bottom: NO REUSE OF MY VIDEOS IS PERMITTED WITHOUT MY CONSENT.
A compilation of short videos that I took along the hike to Bertha Falls. This is a very easy hike for everyone in the family and it is a great prize to see that Bridal Veil style Waterfall at the end of this portion of the hike. You can continue onward and hike to the Bertha Lake, but it does get a little harder from there. The flowers along the hike are amazing and makes it worth while even just for the wild flowers.

Bertha Lake Hike in Waterton | Journey Alberta
The Bertha Lake hike in Waterton Lakes National Park is one of the reopened trails affected by the 2017 Kenow Wildfire. It's a moderate trail up to the lake, and also goes past the beautiful Bertha Falls. The lake itself seemed mostly unaffected by the fire, with lots of trees seemingly unburnt at the lake. On the way to the lake however, evidence of the fire is all around you. You'll walk through ash in some parts and see burnt trees, which is a different experience on a hike.
This video was originally part of my Camping in Waterton 2018 video I made, but since I've got some requests lately to do this hike in a video it was clear it was overlooked because there wasn't a specific video for it.
