How to Visit Philadelphia with an RV: Liberty, Cheesesteaks, and Rocky - Traveling Robert
We find an unusual RV Park in the middle of Philadelphia. We see many of the obligatory historic sites including a bucket list visit to the Independence Hall. We join long time viewer Rob, from South Philly, and he shows us his home town from his own perspective, including eating some authentic Philly cheesesteak. We also follow in Rocky Balboa's footsteps, literally and climb the steps of the Art Museum. We finally get a panoramic view of the city from the Liberty One Observation Deck.

Graham Parker - Three Martini Lunch
The three-martini lunch is a term used in the United States to describe a leisurely, indulgent lunch enjoyed by businessmen or executives. It refers to a common belief that many businessmen have enough leisure time and wherewithal to consume more than one martini during the work day. Steaks or lobster are sometimes considered a staple of these lunches.
Recorded live sometime in October 1988 at the Theatre of Living Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Released as part of Graham Parker's 2nd live album, this song has been performed by him rarely - it appears on Live! Alone in America and then on Yer Cowboy Boot some years later in a different arrangement. Anyway it was always one of my favorite songs on the album.
Lyrics:
I live near Hollywood out in the canyon,
It's a good life if you're winning, it's a killer if you're not.
My wife up and left last night, couldn't stand another fight,
The studio boss fired me, my future's been shot by the...
Three martini lunch.
Things will get better soon, I gotta hunch.
The three martini lunch. Wasting another afternoon,
Punching a hole in my life.
I came from the backwoods, my prospects seemed real good.
For actor or director, the future looked bright.
But I ran in with a bad crowd, and since then it's just been down.
Alone in the canyon, my only companion...
The three martini lunch.
Things will get better soon, I gotta hunch.
The three martini lunch. Wasting another afternoon,
Punching a hole in my life.
I know what they're saying yeah I'll never get back again,
I pushed my luck this time, and I'm on the skids.
But I know what I'm doing I, just can't stop doing it.
Me and my companion, hell bent to ruin it.
The three martini lunch.
Things will get better soon, I gotta hunch.
The three martini lunch. Wasting another afternoon,
Punching a hole in my life.
Wasting another afternoon,
Punching a hole in my life...
Wasting another afternoon,
Punching a hole in my life...

History & Tradition – J.W. Pepper and the University of Pennsylvania Band
Our founder, James Welsh Pepper, believed in the importance of music education as well as building relationships with the community he served. One relationship that was of particular importance was with the University of Pennsylvania Band, which Pepper supported at its founding in 1897. Now, 100 years after his passing, we have joined the University of Pennsylvania Music Program in honoring that relationship, the values Pepper held dear, and the good works Penn’s music program has done and continues to do.

Remembering Wally Triplett, Christopher Lehmann-Haupt, Tom Jago, Ron Johnson, Francis Lai
We Are Penn State
A PENN STATE LEGEND, THE BOOK CRITIC, A GREAT DRINK, A GIANT WOLVERINE, WHERE DO I BEGIN
Wally Triplett was the first African-American starter for the Penn State Football team and the first African-American player drafted to play in the NFL. His story is part of the Penn State cheer “We Are Penn State.” Christopher Lehmann-Haupt was the book reviewer for The New York Times for three decades. Tom Jago was the British liquor executive who developed Bailey’s Irish Cream. Ron Johnson was the All-American halfback for the Michigan Wolverines and New York Giants. Francis Lai was the composer who won an Academy Award for the theme to Love Story.
Wallace Triplett (April 18, 1926 – November 8, 2018) was a professional American football player, the first African-American draftee to play for a National Football League team.[1] For that reason, his portrait hangs in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. Triplett, the son of a postal worker, was born and raised in the Philadelphia suburb of La Mott, Pennsylvania, part of Cheltenham Township.[2] His reputation as a talented high school football player, combined with his upscale address, prompted the University of Miami to offer him a scholarship sight unseen, under the assumption Triplett was white. The then-segregated university rescinded the scholarship when they discovered Triplett was black. Triplett instead earned a Senatorial Scholarship for his academics and chose to attend Penn State University in the fall of 1945. Along with Dennis Hoggard, Triplett was one of the first African-Americans to take the field in a varsity football game for Penn State. During the 1946 season, Penn State's Nittany Lions team voted to cancel a regular-season game at the University of Miami, rather than compromise by not bringing their black players. (Miami, like other southern schools at the time, refused to compete against integrated schools unless they left their black players at home.Although Triplett was the third African-American chosen in the 1949 NFL Draft, he was the first of the draftees to take the field in a league game. Undrafted free agent African-Americans had previously played in the league.[4] The 5'-10, 173-pound running back and return specialist played for the Detroit Lions from 1949–50.
Christopher Lehmann-Haupt (14 June 1934 – November 7, 2018) was an American journalist, editor of the New York Times Book Review, critic, and novelist, based in New York City. He served as senior Daily Book Reviewer from 1969 to 1995. His family lived in New York City.[2] Christopher had two younger brothers, Carl and Alexander.
It was not until Lehmann-Haupt traveled to Berlin in 1947 to live with his father for a year that he learned about his father's Jewish ancestry.
Tom Jago, an inventive British liquor executive who was part of the team that developed Baileys Irish Cream and made it the world’s best-selling liqueur, and who later helped establish the Malibu Rum and Johnnie Walker Blue brands, died on Oct. 12 in London. He was 93.
Ronald Adolphis Johnson (October 17, 1947 – November 10, 2018) was an American football running back.Johnson played college football at the halfback position for the University of Michigan from 1966 to 1968. He set a Michigan school record in 1967 by rushing for 270 yards in a game. In 1968, he became the first African-American to serve as the captain of a Michigan football team. He set an NCAA record by rushing for 347 yards in a game and set Big Ten Conference records with 92 points scored and 1,017 rushing yards in seven conference games. He also set Michigan records with 2,524 career rushing yards, 19 rushing touchdowns in a season, and 139.1 rushing yards per game in 1968. He played seven seasons in the National Football League (NFL) from 1969 to 1975 and became the first player in New York Giants history to rush for 1,000 yards in a season, accomplishing the feat in both 1970 and 1972. He also led the NFL in rushing attempts in both 1970 and 1972. Johnson retired as a player in 1976, was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1992, and became chairman of the National Football Foundation in 2006. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2008, and died in 2018. He is the brother of 1970 American League batting champion Alex Johnson.
Francis Lai, the French composer best known for his themes for the movies “Love Story” and “A Man and a Woman,” died on Wednesday. He was 86.
Al Martino - I Love You More And More Every Day
Alfred Cini was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His parents were immigrants from Malta who ran a construction business, and while growing up he worked alongside his brothers as a bricklayer. However, he was inspired to become a singer by emulating artists such as Al Jolson and Perry Como, and by the success of a family friend, Alfredo Cocozza, who had changed his name to Mario Lanza. After serving with the United States Marines in World War II, including being a part of the Iwo Jima invasion where he was wounded, Cini began his singing career. Encouraged by Lanza, he adopted the stage name Al Martino, taken from his mother's maiden name, and began singing in local nightclubs. In 1948 he moved to New York City, and in 1952 won first place on Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts television program with a performance of Como's hit If.
As a result, he won a recording contract with the Philadelphia based independent label BBS, where he recorded the song Here in My Heart. Lanza had been asked by his label RCA Victor to record the song, but Martino called and pleaded with him not to do so in order to let Martino's version have a clear run. The song spent three weeks at #1 on the US pop charts in June 1952, earning Martino a gold disc and, later in the year, also reached the top of the UK charts. It was number one in the first UK Singles Chart, published by the New Musical Express on November 14, 1952, putting him into the Guinness Book of World Records. Here in My Heart remained in the top position for nine weeks in the United Kingdom, a record for the longest consecutive run at #1 which has only since been beaten by five other songs.
The record's success led to a deal with Capitol Records, and he released three more singles — Take My Heart, Rachel, and When You're Mine — through 1953, all of which hit the U.S. Top 40. However, his success also attracted the attention of the Mafia, which bought out Martinos management contract and ordered him to pay $75,000 as a safeguard for their investment. After making a down-payment to appease them, he moved to Britain. His popularity allowed him to continue to perform and record successfully in the UK, headlining at the London Palladium and having six further British chart hits in the period up to 1955, including Now and Wanted. However, his work received no exposure back in the US. In 1958, thanks to the intervention of a family friend, Martino was allowed to return to the US and resume his recording career, but he faced difficulties in re-establishing himself, especially with the arrival of rock and roll. The success of his 1962 album The Exciting Voice of Al Martino secured him a new contract with Capitol, and was followed by a mostly Italian language album, The Italian Voice of Al Martino, which featured his version of the then internationally popular song, Al Di Là. He also made several high-profile television appearances, helping to re-establish his visibility.
In 1963, he had his biggest US chart success with I Love You Because, a cover of Leon Payne's 1950 country music hit. Arranged by Belford Hendricks, Martino's version went to #3 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, and #1 on the Easy Listening chart. The album of the same name went Top 10 in the Billboard 200. Martino had four other US top 10 hits in 1963 and 1964 - Painted, Tainted Rose (1963), I Love You More and More Every Day, Tears and Roses and Silver Bells (all 1964). He also sang the title song for the 1964 film, Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte. One of his biggest hits was Spanish Eyes, achieving several gold and platinum discs for sales. Recorded in 1965, the song reached #5 on the UK Singles Chart when re-issued in 1973. The song, with a tune by Bert Kaempfert originally titled Moon Over Naples, is among the 50 most played songs worldwide.
Martino's run of chart success faded after the mid-1960s, although many of his records continued to reach the US Hot 100. ~SOURCE: Wikipedia

Neighbors on nightclub plan: Not in my back yard
A crowd of Brooklyn Park residents packed the city's council chambers Wednesday night to voice their opposition to an adult nightclub and restaurant proposed for the Creekside Plaza strip mall on 85th Avenue.
Members on the Brooklyn Park planning commission heard from nearly two dozen residents concerned the nightclub would cause problems ranging from traffic and noise to crime in the residential area.
When I'm sitting on my couch with my family and kids at nine or ten o'clock at night, I don't need to hear any music, I don't need to hear any arguments, any loitering or anything else, said Anthony Starks, who lives near Creekside Plaza.
Downtown Minneapolis or downtown St. Paul in a warehouse district or whatever, fine, said Brooklyn Park resident Lee Silvernagel.
Club owner Rodney Dewalt of Maple Grove is proposing a 3,500-square-foot restaurant and nightclub for adults over the age of 25 in Brooklyn Park. The establishment would be located between a daycare center and a fitness club.
The venue I'm proposing here, it would be an upscale venue, Dewalt told the planning commission Wednesday night. I don't want to step on any residents' toes, I don't want to cause any problems or be a nuisance.
Resident also cited incidents at other out of state nightclubs owned by Dewalt including the Purple Martini in Oklahoma City and Fountaine Bleu in Portland. Dewalt refuted those claims.
I've been involved in over 79 clubs in many cities, I've had one incident, said Dewalt.
City staff concerns focused on parking issues and concerns the proposed establishment would be more nightclub and less restaurant.
Ultimately the planning commission voted unanimously, recommending to deny Dewalt's application. Commissioners said they believed the residential shopping center wasn't the right spot for Dewalt's proposal.
Irregardless as to what type of music they play, what type of food they serve, it's not a fit, said commissioner Steve Schmidt.
The Brooklyn Park City Council will have the final say on the issue April 28.

Why red light cameras are a scam
Redlight camera tickets aren’t just a nuisance to drivers, they also cost cities millions.
Many drivers are familiar with receiving the dreaded automated traffic enforcement photo for running a red light. While red light cameras have been reported to reduce broadside crashes, it has been shown these cameras increase rear-end collisions as well. In addition, numerous tickets aren't going to people running straight through red lights, but drivers failing to make a complete stop while turning on red. Safety is touted as the biggest concern but there are better long term solutions than municipalities installing red light cameras. Building more roundabouts and lengthening yellow lights are just two of several cheaper alternatives to red light cameras.
