BLICKLING ESTATE - Norfolk, England - National Trust | UK Days Out
We visit the Blickling Estate, a National Trust stately home in Norfolk, England. At the Blickling Estate we tour Blickling Hall, which is potentially the birthplace of Anne Boleyn, and take a walk around the lovely gardens.

In the fifteenth century, Blickling Hall was in the possession of Sir John Fastolf of Caister in Norfolk (1380--1459), who made a fortune in the Hundred Years' War, and whose coat of arms is still on display there. Later, the Hall was in the possession of the Boleyn family, and home to Sir Thomas Boleyn, created Earl of Wiltshire, and his wife, Elizabeth, between 1499 and 1505. It is presumed that their first two children Mary and George were born at Blickling Hall, along with several other Boleyn infants who did not live long. If the couple's most famous child, Anne Boleyn, was born before 1505 (as one school of historical thought contends) then she too was born at Blickling. Other historians maintain that Anne was born after 1505, probably in 1507, and by that time Sir Thomas had moved to Hever Castle in Kent. Nonetheless, a statue and portrait of Anne Boleyn reside in Blickling Hall claiming Anna Bolena hic nata 1507 (Anne Boleyn born here 1507).
The current Blickling Hall was built on the ruins of the old Boleyn property in the reign of James I, by Sir Henry Hobart, Lord Chief Justice of the Common Pleas and 1st Baronet, who bought Blickling from Robert Clere in 1616. The architect of Hatfield House, Robert Lyminge, is credited with the design of the current structure. The Lord Chief Justice married Dorothy, the daughter of Sir Robert Bell of Beaupre Hall, Outwell/Upwell, Norfolk, Speaker of the House of Commons 1572--1576. A grand display of heraldic material is present throughout the estate.

Today, Blickling Hall is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Norfolk. In the 15th century, Blickling Hall was owned by Sir John Fastolf (1380--1459), who made a fortune in the Hundred Years' War, and whose coat of arms is still on display there. Later, the Hall was owned by the Boleyn family, and home to Sir Thomas Boleyn, created Earl of Wiltshire, and his wife, Elizabeth, between 1499 and 1505. Their first two children Mary and George were almost certainly born at Blickling Hall, along with several other Boleyn infants who did not live long. Anne Boleyn, was probably born here too around 1501. In 1505 the family moved to Hever Castle in Kent.
It is said that every year, on the anniversary of her execution, Anne Boleyn's headless ghost arrives at Blickling Hall in a carriage driven by an equally headless coachman. But she hasn't lost her head completely in the afterlife—she carries it along with her during her hauntings. Anyone wanting to meet her will need to go on 19 May - in fact turn up on 18 May just in case she haunts on that night. Come to think of it, calculate what day it would be in the current Gregorian calendar just in case Anne does not know that the dates changed.
The current Blickling Hall was built on the ruins of the old Boleyn property in 1616.
During World War II the house was requisitioned and served as the Officers Mess of nearby RAF Oulton. It was at this time that the house and its estate passed to The National Trust, under the terms of the Country Houses Scheme.
At the end of the war, the house was de-requisitioned. The National Trust again let it to tenants until 1960, when the Trust began the work to restore the house to a style reflecting its history. The house and grounds were opened to the public in 1962 and remain open under the name Blickling Hall, Garden & Park.

There are a number of films here on the packaging industry. This is because I am the publisher of Central and Eastern European Packaging -- - the international platform for the packaging industry in this region focusing on the latest innovations, trends, design, branding, legislation and environmental issues with in-depth profiles of major industry achievers.
Most people may think packaging pretty boring but it possibly effects your life more than you really imagine!
Central and Eastern European Packaging examines the packaging industry throughout this region, but in particular in the largest regional economies which are Russia, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Ukraine and Austria. That is not to say that the other countries are forgotten, they are not, but obviously there is less going on. However the fact that there are so many travel related films here is not from holidays but from business trips attending trade fairs around the region. Every packaging trade fair is a new excuse to make another film!
Blickling Hall Norfolk - The most haunted house in England
On a very cold Easter monday, myself and my friend Claire visited Blickling House in Norfolk. The present house was completed in 1624, but the earlier property was the ancestral home of the Boleyn family, the most famous Boleyn being Anne, the second wife of King Henry VIII and mother of Elizabeth, later Queen Elizabeth I.
This is reputed to be the most haunted house in England with a headless ghost of Anne Boleyn visiting the estate on the anniversary of her execution.

We visited this elegant property last September on a slightly grey day. But it was still a delight. And obviously much enjoyed by a party of young Japanese! Richard couldn't resist the piano.

Blickling Hall Walks was about 5 miles in distance. The terrain of the route was a combination of woodland trails, farm tracks, field paths and short lane sections. The walking was easy on level ground. Route finding was easy with obvious paths, good waymarking and good landmarks. There were 3 stiles to negotiate.
