Independent Leeds - Thewlis Cocktail Bar
An Named after prominent Leeds-born architect Joseph Thewlis who designed the striking frieze that adorns the building, Thewlis Cocktail Lounge has taken over the entire ground floor of Kenneth Hodgson House. Built in 1901 and previously the banking hall of the West Riding Bank. With the building having such great historical importance to the city, sitting on one of the oldest streets in Leeds, Park Row, it was important to have its story within our branding.
Thewlis Cocktail Lounge is swathed in pure decadence, with hedonistic gold and black décor throughout. A library style floor to ceiling back bar, creating a liquor emporium, that is rarely seen outside London.
The full-length ladder sits proud of the bar – leading the bartenders to customers’ very own private drinks cabinets. Thewlis mixologists will offer guests over 40 unique cocktails from strong to sweet, fruity to sour, smoking to sparkling and we promise each one will come with its own little piece of theatre.
We are delighted to bring this unique cocktail experience to the people of Leeds.

Hello. Good Morning. Good Afternoon. Good Evening. We are Lazy Lounge. We are an independent bar tucked away just beyond where most other city centre bars live. The establishment for fine wine, gin and whisky in Leeds.
We have a downstairs bar area scattered with chesterfields, barrels and a tasting piano table. Above our amply stocked bar and up a sweeping staircase, the mezzanine hosts further tables and chairs where we also serve a delightful menu of home cooked locally sourced food.
Opened primarily as a wine bar, wine will always remain a major passion at Lazy. We are supremely proud of our award winning wine list and the privilege of offering excellent wines at fair prices.
As we have evolved, so has our passion for an abundance of multiple offerings. Though our key affections appear to lie with Wine, Gin & Whisky, we struggle to draw a line with everything else. A plethora of spirits, cocktails, beers and ciders also feature proudly across our back bar. We pride ourselves on sourcing the eclectic and simply brilliant. We also particularly enjoy the repartee of recommendations from custom.

The Sandinista group approached Sonder Studios to help them create a series of videos that they could use as marketing for their various venues, Smokestack being one of them. Sonder Studios worked with the client to produce an original idea with a twist whilst working with local musicians like Tom Attah who features in the video to really get a flavour for the bar - Take a look and see what you think!
