Blockhouse Point Lighthouse, Prince Edward Island

Blockhouse Point Lighthouse is located on the west side of the entrance to Charlottetown Harbour, Prince Edward Island, Canada. The wood tower and attached dwelling were built in 1876 and consists of a square tower, 42 feet high. The buildings are not in the best condition, needing repairs and paint.

The light has a focal plane of 60 feet above the water. The current signature of the white light is a three-second flash, followed by a one-second eclipse.

Triple island lighthouse

We checked out Triple island lighthouse during one of our whale watching excursion. This is probably the biggest lighthouse on the west coast. S/W of Prince Rupert. It is manned yearound and is a very important part of the north coast. It is built like a forteress because during winter storms; the waves can reach the upper part of the walls. Operational since 1921.

Kayaking Charlottetown Harbour to Rocky Point Wharf Prince Edward Island

Rented Kayaks from Paddles at the Charlottetown Yacht Club. Crossed the harbour to Rocky Point to the decaying wharf used for the ferry service. The ferry serviced Rocky Point, Southport (now Stratford) York Point and Charlottetown in the 1840's until 1960.

Winds were from the west and the tide was coming in - it was about an hour to reach our destination, but only about 20-30 minutes to return.
