Holiday Heights Christmas Event At The Bloedel Conservatory | Vancouver B.C. Canada
I was invited out to the opening of the Holiday Heights at the Bloedel Conservatory that takes place between December 14th - January 6th in Vancouver B.C. Canada at the Queen Elizabeth Park.
I would definitely recommend this as an accompaniment to the Van Dusen festival of lights which is near by.

The birds of Bloedel Conservatory
Bloedel Conservatory is a tropical paradise located in beautiful Queen Elizabeth Park in Vancouver, BC. There are more than 120 tropical birds and 500 kinds of exotic plants inside the triodetic dome at the peak of Vancouver.
Bloedel Conservatory - Vancouver
I walk through Queen Elizebeth Park to Bloedel Conservatory. It was a rainy overcast day but the park was still very beautiful. There is never a bad day to visit this park.
The Bloedel Conservatory is also worth checking out when you’re in the park. The climate controlled dome is at the top of the hill and is full of wild birds and tropical plants. Admission is only $6.75 (CA) for adults. Well worth the expense. A wonderful break from the weather outside, if it's a cold and rainy day.
The Bruce Voyce sculpture “Love In The Rain” is also fascinating and is quite romantic. Especially if you’re with a romantic partner and happen to have a padlock on you.
-Gear: I mainly shot the Google Pixel 3 and it worked well overall. But I also shot a couple scenes with the iPhone XS.
I used 720x480p30 on the Pixel 3 with the Cinema FV-5 app because I like the film-look of it. I finished on 1280x720 and this softens the image and makes it look more grungy. I kept the heavy black borders which reduces the final resolution of the image to about 1000 pixels on the long side. I can enlarge the vid right to 1280 but didn’t bother because I sorta like the heavy black borders.
The iPhone XS has noticeably better audio. The iPhone HDR worked well in the Conservatory and the colors were good in the overcast natural light. The Pixel 3 video was good too, but it has different colors. In daytime the iPhone can sometimes be better, but at night the Pixel 3 is always the best. Overall I prefer the Pixel. And as always, it takes the best photographs. So that is kind of a big deal.
When it comes to video...story is what makes the biggest difference. Whichever camera allows you to tell the best story, is the camera you should use. Usually the idea of minimalism will help you make this decision. The simpler the story, the easier it will be to tell, and the better it will be. Remove as much friction from the system as you can.

QUEEN ELIZABETH PARK // BLOEDEL CONSERVATORY
QUEEN ELIZABETH PARK // BLOEDEL CONSERVATORY
After 1/20 hours of walking, with Justina's toes AKA leg fingers barely surviving the trip; we arrived at a popular Vancouver tourist attraction called Queen Elizabeth Park. Named after George IV and Elizabeth, when they visited in 1939.
To this day, the park is still fit for royalty, with the beautiful Bloedel Conservatory, that houses exotic birds and plants from around the world. To the endless gardens, which takes you away from the city but you can still appreciate the views of the city skyline and surrounding mountains.
Honestly if we had not even made it to this park, just walking around our neighbouring areas was a treat for the eyes. Vancouver can you stop being so beautiful...just kidding..this is still the beginning
