What It's Like Working On A New York City Food Truck
Food trucks are everywhere in most major cities in the United States, including New York City. To understand what it's really like to run a successful food truck, we spent a full day with the crew of Yumpling, which has served traditional Taiwanese food since 2017.
The day starts at 1am when co-owner Christopher Yu picks up the truck and stakes out a parking spot in Brooklyn or Manhattan. After parking the truck, Chris turns on the generator, which powers the food truck's refrigerator and freezer. Because of New York City regulations that state someone must remain in the truck while it's parked, Chris will camp out for the rest of the night. He can't sleep in the back of the truck and must remain at the wheel. The truck doesn't have heat or air conditioning, which can make for tough winters and summers.
Morning prep starts at 7 am when the team prepares salads, fries chicken, cooks rice, and labels containers for lunch, which Yumpling starts serving at 11:30 am. Some customers begin lining up as soon as 11 am. On the morning we spent with Yumpling there was a line down the street five minutes after they opened.
The truck doesn't pay rent in the traditional sense, but it does accumulate parking tickets throughout the day. Parking tickets for the truck range in price from $65 to hundreds of dollars. Some days the truck receives two or three tickets, while on others it manages to avoid parking fines.

Portland food and travel playlist
Portland is a city located in the U.S. state of Oregon, near the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia rivers. As of the 2010 Census, it had a population of 583,776, estimated to have reached 587,865 in 2012 making it the 28th most populous city in the United States. Portland is Oregon's most populous city, and the third most populous city in the Pacific Northwest region, after Seattle, Washington, and Vancouver, British Columbia. Approximately 2,289,800 people live in the Portland metropolitan area (MSA), the 19th most populous MSA in the United States.
Portland was incorporated in 1851 near the end of the Oregon Trail and is the county seat of Multnomah County. The city has a commission-based government headed by a mayor and four other commissioners as well as Metro, a distinctive regional government. The city is noted for its superior land-use planning and investment in light rail.Because of its public transportation networks and efficient land-use planning, Portland has been referred to as one of the most environmentally friendly, or green, cities in the world.
Located in the Marine west coast climate region, Portland has a climate marked by both warm, dry summers and wet, cool-to-chilly winter days. This climate is ideal for growing roses. For more than a century, Portland has been known as the City of Roses, with many rose gardens -- most prominently the International Rose Test Garden. The city is also known for its abundant outdoor activities, liberal political values, and beer and coffee enthusiasm. Portland is home to a collection of independent microbreweries, microdistilleries and food carts that contribute to the unofficial but widely utilized[citation needed] slogan Keep Portland Weird.

Shake Shack in NYC - Eating The Double Shack Burger!
►Follow Sarah on Instagram:
►Subscribe to my channel:
►Check out my NYC food guide:
Shake Shack is one of the most famous NYC fast food burger chains, and I didn’t want to leave NYC without trying it. We then went to church and then on to eat Ethiopian food!
00:35 Stumptown Coffee Roasters - I’m a big fan of coffee, and since it wasn’t too far away from where we were staying, we started off the day by going to Stumptown Coffee Roasters. I ordered an Americano which was wonderful, and a cold brew to go. Americano - $3.25
Cold brew - $4.50
1:38 Flatiron Building / Madison Square Park - While drinking my coffee, we were just enjoying New York City walking around leisurely. We had a great view of the famous Flatiron building, and then we continued on walking around Madison Square Park.
2:41 Shake Shack at Madison Square Park - I wasn’t actually planning to eat at Shake Shack today, but since we happen to be at Madison Square Park and since it was just a little while before they opened for the day, I decided it would be the perfect opportunity to try Shake Shack for the first time. I ordered the double Shack burger, which came with all the toppings. I’ll let you watch the full video for a full review of the burger and Shake Shack, but what stood out to me was the beef and the bun, which were about as excellent as fast food can get for me. Full Shake Shack review within the video. Double Shack Burger - $8.09, Chicken Shack - $6.29, Fries - $2.99
12:02 Hillsong Church NYC - After eating Shake Shack, since it was Sunday, we walked over to Hillsong Church NYC to attend the service. It was huge!
►Check out Sarah’s website:
12:58 Meske Ethiopian Restaurant - After church we headed to Meske Ethiopian Restaurant, which is one of Sarah’s favorite Ethiopian restaurants in NYC. It was so good to hang out with Sarah and to eat Ethiopian food — it had been way too long! We ordered the special tibs, doro wat, and a variety of vegetarian dishes. Total price - about $90
17:19 Luke's Lobster - Finally for dinner, since it was our final day in NYC, I didn’t want to leave without trying lobster roll. I wasn’t able to go to the exact location I had wanted to go, but I there was a Luke’s Lobster not too far from where I was staying. Lobster roll - $18.51 - It tasted food, but it was pretty expensive.

Rheingold Beer Commercial (1950s)
A commercial for Rheingold Extra Dry Beer from the 1950s featuring beer cans marching down a street. This commercial appears to be missing about 8 seconds of the ending. Sorry about that.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rheingold Beer, founded in 1883, is a New York beer that held 35 percent of the state's beer market from 1950 to 1960. The company was sold by the founding Liebmann family in 1963. According to the New York Times, Rheingold Beer was once a top New York brew guzzled regularly by a loyal cadre of workingmen who would just as soon have eaten nails as drink another beer maker's suds. Its VP-Technical Joseph Owades claims credit for Rheingold developing the first light beer.
At the center of its media campaign was the Miss Rheingold pageant. Beer drinkers voted each year on the young lady who would be featured as Miss Rheingold in advertisements. In the 1940s and 1950s in New York, the selection of Miss Rheingold was as highly anticipated as the race for the White House. The first Miss Rheingold was Spanish-born Jinx Falkenburg. When Nat King Cole became the first major black entertainer to host a television show, advertisers stayed away—but not Rheingold; Rheingold was the New York regional sponsor for Cole's show. As early as 1965, Rheingold aired television ads featuring African American, Puerto Rican and Asian actors, to appeal to its racially diverse customer base. The company's headquarters was in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn. Rheingold was the official beer of the [Brooklyn Dodgers], and its advertisements featured John Wayne, Jackie Robinson, and the Marx Brothers.
Rheingold shut down operations in 1976, when they were unable to compete with the large national breweries. Corporate consolidation and the rise of national breweries led to the demise of dozens of regional breweries. The Orange, New Jersey brewery was the last facility to close. The company shut down four years after the construction of the twin towers of the World Trade Center was completed. During the cleanup of the WTC site following the collapse of the towers on September 11, 2001, numerous Rheingold beer cans were found in the rubble, having been hidden in the beams of the building decades earlier by construction workers who had drunk the beers on the job.
During the interim period, it appears that the name was most likely licensed to the Miller brewing company[citation needed] for an inexpensive beer sold primarily in the northeastern part of the United States. While almost certainly inferior to the previous version, it met the requirements of an inexpensive, but not foul tasting brew.
The label was revived in 1998 by Terry Liebmann and partner Mike Mitaro. According to an October 18, 1999 New York Observer article, Mitaro's Rheingold Brewing Company LLC bought the brand and Liebmann is a relative of Rheingold's founding family. When Rheingold re-launched, they revived the Miss Rheingold pageant. The new Miss Rheingold contestants no longer wore ball gowns and white gloves--They had tattoos. They were pierced. They were ********. In 2003, the Village Voice noted Rheingold for the best marketing campaign co-opting hipster drinking habits. In 2004, Rheingold stirred controversy in New York City with a series of ads which mock New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's ban on smoking in bars and enforcement of city laws which prohibit dancing in bars which do not have a cabaret license. Bloomberg responded by drinking Coors in public.
In 2005, Drinks Americas of Wilton Ct., whose iconic brands include Trump Vodka and Dr. Dre Cognac, purchased Rheingold Brewing. Drinks Americas has reformulated the Rheingold product for follow through distribution throughout the US. The date of the release is currently unknown.
Rheingold beer will return to the New York Metropolitan market. Drinks Americas will be selling Rheingold Beer in August of 2010. They have launched a new website, rheingoldbrewingcompany.com.

STAR Has A Major Meltdown
A new study shows that leading AI models are 1.5 times more likely to flag tweets written by African Americans as “offensive” compared to other tweets. Platforms like Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter are developing artificial intelligence technology to help stop the spread of derogatory speech on their networks. The idea is that complex algorithms that use natural language processing will flag questionable speech faster and better than human beings possibly can. But two new studies show that AI trained to identify hate speech may actually end up amplifying racial bias. In one study, researchers found that leading AI models for processing hate speech were one-and-a-half times more likely to flag tweets as offensive or hateful when they were written by African Americans, and 2.2 times more likely to flag tweets written in African American English (which is commonly spoken by black people in the US). Another study found similar widespread evidence of racial bias against black speech in five widely used academic data sets for studying hate speech that totaled around 155,800 Twitter posts.
