Tamarindo Beach

Tamarindo Costa Rica is one of the top destinations in Costa Rica and for a good reason, it has a three kilometer stretch of white sand, warm blue water, exquisite nature and stunning sunsets. The sun shines just about 365 days per year in Tamarindo and its neighboring beach Playa Langosta, and the temperature is pleasantly warm year round.

There truly is lodging for every budget in Tamarindo Costa Rica. There is a hammock hotel, a glamping hotel, lots of surf camps, boutique hotels, hostels, adults only hotels, apartment hotels, bed and breakfasts and a staggering amount of vacation rentals. As Tamarindo is small, all lodging in Tamarindo and Langosta is within walking distance of the beach.

Tamarindo has been known as the ultimate surf town for many years, and there are surf spots for all levels. A long stretch of sand, warm ocean, many tide pools and consistent waves makes for a water paradise. Visitors can take to the high seas on a sailing cruise in Tamarindo's bay aboard the many catamarans and schooners for hire, or try their hand at sportfishing, scuba diving, kayaking, snorkeling.

Costa Rica Pt 1 - San Jose Arrival | Driving to the Rainforest in a Downpour

Part 1 of our Costa Rica Travel series.

Itinerary for Day 1


Take an evening flight out of Baltimore, bound for Juan Santamaría International Airport in San Jose, Costa Rica (connection in ATL).

Arrive in San Jose the next morning around 11AM
Pick up our rental car.

Sharpen up our Central American driving skills by cruising through downtown San Jose

Drive about an hour north from San Jose towards LaPaz Waterfall Gardens and Peace Lodge Resort

Navigate through an afternoon rainforest downpour. This happened every day around 12:30PM. The following morning we would awaken to a perfect reset of bright sun and clear blue skies. We quickly learned to plan our outdoor activities between 6AM and Noon, followed by storm watching in the afternoons.

Arrive at the Peace Lodge hotel.
Lounge on the balcony and try to absorb the fact that we made it to Costa Rica.

Head out for a fancy Costa Rican dinner within the LaPaz Resort
Get some much needed sleep and prepare for our upcoming day of rain forest exploration.

365 Days in Costa Rica

A year ago, we quit our jobs, sold everything, and moved from Boston to Costa Rica. Was it worth it? YES!

We lived in eight different towns and explored the country from coast to coast. We met great people, saw amazing wildlife, swam at beautiful beaches, and hiked through wild jungle.

With just eight suitcases and a strong sense of adventure, we landed in San Jose and took a cab to the Pacific Coast. In the next twelve months, we moved from Manuel Antonio to Dominical, bought ourselves a car, and then went from Puerto Viejo to Uvita, Tilaran, Playa Grande, Nosara, and Tronadora.

Tourist facilities are limited in this part of Costa Rica, and we wanted nothing more but to share this piece of paradise with others.

And out of the blue... an opportunity came knocking

An old hotel in the area was in serious need of some tender love and care and we jumped on the opportunity to make it into something special.

Conchal Beach Costa Rica Lazy Saturday

Conchal Beach Costa Rica - We took this video of one of our favorite Costa Rica beaches on a lazy Saturday afternoon. Playa Conchal is located between two of Costa Rica's most vibrant beach towns, Tamarindo and Flamingo, smack in the center of the famous North Pacific Coast. Conchal means shell in Spanish, and the sand on this beach is made up of tiny white and pink shells that glisten in the sun. Pure Paradise. Pura Vida!
