Ishigaki (石垣島) Japan (4K)
Ishigaki Island is the commercial hub of the Yaeyama Islands, in Japan’s southwestern Okinawa Prefecture. It's known for beaches and sites for snorkeling, diving and surfing. Within Iriomote-Ishigaki National Park lies the Shiraho Reef's rare blue coral. In the interior is Mt. Omoto and other peaks. In one word, it's beautiful!

Ishigaki, Japan (Monkey Island)
Ishigaki Island is the commercial hub of the Yaeyama Islands, in Japan’s southwestern Okinawa Prefecture. Ishigakia's tropical beaches are known for snorkeling, scuba-diving and surfing. Within Iriomote-Ishigaki National Park lies the Shiraho Reef's rare blue coral. In the island's interior are mountains such as 526m-high Mt. Omoto, popular for hiking. Its Fukido River basin, site of mangrove forests, can be explored by kayak.

Our ISHIGAKI, Japan experience! Chilled Vlog
Earlier this year my wife and I embarked on a plane to Ishigaki Japan. It was our 2nd year anniversary. My wife had seafood dreams and I was eager to get my drone in the sky. Luckily we got to tick all the boxes and find some scenic places along the way.
ISHIGAKI is Japan's most Southern Island, the most distanced part of the Okinawa prefecture. With a population of just under 50,000, it's still got a very community and rural vibe. I have been to Japan's main Island near Kyoto and experienced living there. But this was way different. The atmosphere was very relaxed and the typical busy Japan was no where to be seen.

Scuba Diving in Japan | Ishigaki Island
Ishigaki Island is one of the most popular scuba diving locations in Japan. The entire reason I came down to Ishigaki was because I heard about manta scramble (manta point) - An area of coral reef where thousands of feeder fish gobble up skin and gill parasites on giant manta rays as they migrate.

In April we were fortunate to take a quick one hour direct flight from Taipei to Ishigaki, and the weather held for us to make it to Manta point. We managed to get one of our bucket list encounters in on our second diving day. Manta rays at a cleaning station! The trip couldn't have been more perfect. Thanks to Diving School Umicoza and Viking Scuba Kabria for taking us on great dives for English speakers!
