This little known underwater cave is one of the largest in the Mediterranean Sea, often visited by sea lions native to these waters. Kastelorizo being one of the smallest Greek islands is known more to sailors than to the general traveler but if you do find yourself on this charming island a visit to the Blue Grotto is a must.

Η γαλάζια Σπηλιά του Καστελόριζου, που γι' αυτή και μόνο αξίζει να επιχειρήσει κανείς το ταξίδι μέχρι το μακρινό αυτό νησάκι. Γνωστότερη με τ' όνομα «Σπηλιά του Παραστά» ή «Φώκιαλη» - από τις φώκιες που κατοικούν μέσα- είναι το μεγαλύτερο από τα ενάλια σπήλαια της Ελλάδας, ένα από τα ομορφότερα της Μεσογείου και παγκοσμίως γνωστή για τον πλούσιο σταλακτιτικό στολισμό που διαθέτει.
Βρίσκεται στο νότιο σημείο του νησιού και έχει μήκος 75m και ύψος 35m. Η είσοδος είναι συγκριτικά χαμηλή, στο ύψος μικρού καϊκιού, ώστε όταν είναι μπουνάτσα μόλις που χωράει κανείς, ανυποψίαστος για το γιγάντιο θόλο και το φαντασμαγορικό θέαμα που κρύβει.
Το γαλήνιο νερό της σπηλιάς μοιάζει με ένα απέραντο γαλαζοπράσινο καθρέπτη φωτιζόμενο από τις ανταύγειες των ακτινών του ήλιου που εισχωρούν από τη μικρή είσοδο, παρουσιάζοντας ένα θέαμα μοναδικό σε ομορφιά και γοητεία: Ένα τεράστιο παλάτι, με αμέτρητους σταλακτίτες, όπου μπορεί κανείς να απολαύσει ένα παραμυθένιο μπάνιο.

I TRAVELLED TO GREECE FOR ONE DAY ???????? THE REMOTE ISLAND OF KASTELLORIZO
There are lots of day trips to be had from Kas, one of them is visiting the tiny remote Greek island Kastellorizo with a population of only 500 people. Kerem and I both set off around 9 to the port, we arrived on the island at 11am and straight away discovered how welcoming the locals were, we explored, climbing to the castle ruins to be greeted by a spectacular view, we ended the day by seeing some giant sea turtles. A great experience!

KASTELORIZO BLUE CAVE
Blue Cave is the most celebrated attraction of the Greek island of Kastellorizo. The cave lies on the SE coast of the island, and is named by the inhabitants phokialí (Greek for seal's refuge). Being 40–50 m long, 25–30 m wide, and 20–25 m high, it is much larger than the world famous Grotta Azzurra on Capri, Italy. The light of the sun, refracted through the sea, is reflected in the interior of the Grotto, thereby producing a dazzling blue colour. The Cave can be visited only by boat and, since the entrance is barely one metre high above sea level, only under calm sea conditions: the best time of the day to visit is early in the morning, when the sun is still low.
