Blue Grotto (Taht il-Hnejja - Żurrieq), Malta. Boat trip. Grieg - Morning Mood
After the village of Żurrieq, behind the ravines hides a small bay. When the weather is nice, small boats leave from here to Blue Grotto. In this cave the light plays its rhythm; the corals imbedded in limestones and the algae are sparkling in all colours of the rainbow. The sky looks into the white-sanded seabed, as if it was a mirror and the sea parades in astonishing shades of cobalt blue.

Malta Blue Grotto Boat Trip July 2015
A boat ride to the Blue Grotto (Il-Hnejja) using the Blue Grotto Boat Service from the fishing village of Wied iz-Zurrieq. These are great caves with the opportunity for swimming and diving (the Um El-Faroud Wreck is close), but be warned that it's a very steep walk down to the village and back - particularly hard on a hot summer day - drink plenty of water.

BLUE GROTTO (MALTA)
THE BLUE GROTTO (MALTA)
Gruta azul

Blue Grotto
This natural picturesque grotto and its neighbouring system of caverns mirrors the brilliant phosphorescent colours of the underwater flora. The Blue Grotto is located near Wied iz-Zurrieq south of the town of Zurrieq. A number of caves, including the Blue Grotto, which is the biggest one, can be reached by boat from Wied iz-Zurrieq. From Wied iz-Zurrieq one can also see the small island of Filfa. Filfla is uninhabited except for a unique species of lizards that live there. When Malta was a British colony, the island of Filfla was used for target practice by the British Armed Forces. The island is now protected under Maltese law. The scenery around this area of the island is breathtaking. The cliffs rise out of the blue Mediterranean and the froth of the waves as they hit the rock face can make for some excellent shots.
