Charity Island is a beautiful island in the middle of Saginaw bay, and if you want to get there you have to go by boat. There's also a great sunset dinner cruise that you can take to the island. When you get closer, you realize just how big the island is; 222 acres with 3 miles of shoreline and an 11 acre lake. The island itself feels totally removed from civilization.

Bata Bus - Traverse City, Michigan - Be Grateful For BATA - [HD]
BATA BUS Public Transportation otherwise known in official terms is: The Bay Area Transportation Authority. They have to offer City Loops, Village Loops, and much more. Typical over-privileged, whiney bitches that are of Traverse City people, always having something to complain about, are far from being gracious and grateful and appreciative for the service that lets them live their lives day to day regularly. It's like ok, take BATA away, good luck getting to work now ass-hat. Walk your sanctimonious ass to work instead!

1. Mackinac Island - an island and resort area, covering 3.8 square miles (9.8 km2) in land area, in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is located in Lake Huron.
2. Isle Royale National Park - Beautiful must see island treasure. This island caters to both rugged back packers and those who like a soft bed and hot shower. If you prefer the later, check out the Rock Harbor Lodge. Look for wild bull moose!
3. Pictured Rocks National Seashore - Pictured Rocks is well worth a trip. The views of Lake Superior's clear blue waters and the sandstone cliffs are absolutely gorgeous of course, but we were surprised by the sheer number of different mushrooms and fungus that was growing along the trails.
4. Michigan Historical Museum, Lansing - Beautiful family fun place to visit. Learn about Michigan history. Alot to see for every age level. Wheelchair and stroller accessible.
5. State Capitol - What an absolutely gorgeous building! Just magnificent! Very interesting to watch. Best day to go is on Saturday while they are still giving tours. Parking downtown is also free so you can park right next the capitol building without any problem. The restored dome and glass floor in the rotunda is cool to see.

7. Mackinac Bridge - a suspension bridge spanning the Straits of Mackinac to connect the Upper and Lower Peninsulas of the U.S. state of Michigan.

13. Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park - One of the finest gardens you will ever visit in the whole country. Make sure you have on your must see list. It is easy to view the garden by foot or by the shuttles that are provided. The shuttle drivers are very good at telling the history/story of each landscape artwork and the history of the gardens development itself.
14. Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum - Fantastic museum. A must see if you are in the area. The main feature is, of course, the Edmund Fitzgerald but you will learn about a lot of other shipwrecks as well.

17. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore - This is a great place to bike with a paved bike trail running through most of the park.

8. A TRANSPORTATION GRAVEYARD
Lake Washington in Seattle is unique mainly because of the sheer number of planes, trains, and boats found abandoned in the water, among other things- making it a kind of graveyard.
7. A GHOST TOWN
Upon the completion of the Buchanan Dam in 1937, around 20,000 acres of land in the Texas counties of Llano and Burnet were submerged by the rising Colorado River waters, including the town of Bluffton, which was located along Old Highway 29. Some 50 families were forced to relocate and sell their land to Lower Colorado River Authority.
6. MISSING CARS...AND PEOPLE
In 2013, police testing sonar equipment discovered two long-missing vehicles at the bottom of Foss Lake in Elk City, Oklahoma. One of the cars, which had gone missing on November 20, 1970, was a blue 1969 Camaro. Tragically, the bodies of three teenagers who had gone missing at the same time were found inside the car.
5. A STONEHENGE STRUCTURE
In 2007, a bizarre, seemingly ancient object was discovered at the bottom of Lake Michigan by a team of archaeologists from Northwestern Michigan University College, who were scanning the water for shipwrecks. Among the ruins was what appeared to be a carving of a mastodon, along with a series of boulders arranged in a “Stonehenge-like” manner.
4. A STATUE OF JESUS
The mastodon carving and Stonehenge-like assembly aren’t the only odd things that have been found at the bottom of Lake Michigan. There’s also a, 11-foot-tall, 1,850-pound Italian marble statue of Jesus. It sits underneath 22 feet of water, at the bottom of Traverse Bay, and boasts the title of the world’s only crucifix that is submerged in freshwater.
3. A MYSTERY AIRPLANE
It’s fascinating enough to find an entire airplane at the bottom of a water body, but when nobody knows where the plane came from and can’t trace it to any known crashes, things get downright creepy! That’s what happened in September 2013, when firefighters from the Charlotte, North Carolina Fire Department, who were using sonar, discovered a sunken seaplane in Lake Norman.
2. UNDERWATER TEA PARTY
In May 2015, a concerned snorkeler called the La Paz County Sheriff’s Office in Arizona regarding suspected human remains at the bottom of the Cienega Springs boat launch. Now, that would be a scary thing to discover during a leisurely swim!
1. A PROSTHETIC LEG
In 2016, a 49-year-old Green Bay, Wisconsin man named Mark Warner lost his prosthetic leg when his canoe overturned during a fishing trip on Range Line Lake in Wabeno. Although it wasn’t Warner’s “everyday leg,” but an older one that he used specifically for outdoor activities like fishing, he still wanted it back, and posted an ad on Craiglist in search of it.

Visiting Mackinaw City Michigan and The Mackinac Bridge
Today, we are visiting Mackinaw City Michigan and the Mackinac Bridge. Mackinaw City is located in northern Michigan. The highlight of Mackinaw City is the Mackinac Bridge which spans the gap between the lower peninsula of Michigan and the upper peninsula of Michigan.
It had been at least 25 years since I last stepped foot in Mackinaw City and boy has a lot changed. The very first thing I noticed that was different is a cool shopping district called the Mackinaw Crossings has been built. This little shopping area reminds me of the River Crossings in Frankenmuth, Michigan, but with a few more things to do. In fact, I believe it was built by the same developers.
After checking out the Mackinaw Crossings we decided to walk through downtown Mackinaw City and head out toward Lake Huron to check out some of the shoreline. The Lake Huron water is absolutely gorgeous. I was surprised at how clear and clean the lake looked.
After spending some time on Lake Huron we decided it was time to go and see the main attraction in Mackinaw City, the Mackinac Bridge. We visited both the lower peninsula and the upper peninsula sides to catch a good look at the bridge and the surrounding water.
Finally, at night I went back to the bridge to see it all lit up at night. While it was hard to see in the dark, what I could see was beautiful.
In conclusion, I think Mackinaw City is pretty fun place to visit. It reminds me of a cross between Gatlinburg, Tennessee and Frankenmuth, Michigan. I do think, however, that some of the areas around Mackinaw are a little dated and could use some work.

Sustainable Small Harbors: Helping Coastal Communities Reimagine Their Waterfront
Note: The choppy audio improves several minutes into the webinar (we apologize for the initial quality).
This webinar provides an overview of the Sustainable Small Harbors project, an initiative to boost the long-term well-being of Michigan’s coastal communities.
The Sustainable Small Harbors project arose in 2014 when many of Michigan’s small coastal communities were struggling to cope with fluctuating water levels, declining populations, and economic instability. The project research team (consisting of Lawrence Technological University, Environmental Consulting & Technology, Inc., Veritas Economic Consulting, LLC, and David Larkin Knight, LLC) has assessed barriers preventing small harbor communities from becoming socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable.
Members of the project research team along with personnel from Michigan Sea Grant and Michigan State University Extension facilitated in-depth visioning workshops in six coastal communities to help community members identify potential growth areas for their waterfronts. By May 2017, the team will publish a guidebook to help other coastal communities analyze their own waterfront assets and develop strategies to bolster their long-term economic, social, and environmental stability.
