The Westin Maui Resort & Spa – Ka'anapali Hawaii
Overlooking the cobalt-blue waters of the Pacific Ocean, The Westin Maui Resort & Spa on legendary Ka’anapali Beach is the perfect island resort for an inspiring Hawaiian vacation. With its beachfront setting, magnificent aquatic playground with five pools and tropical gardens, this Maui hotel appeals to honeymooners and families alike. From uplifting renewal at the Heavenly Spa to world-class golfing, watersport adventures and cultural fun - the choices are endless.
In 1930, Severt W. Thurston and Frank Dupar of Seattle, Washington met unexpectedly during breakfast at a diner in Yakima, Washington. The competing hotel owners decided to form a management company to handle all their properties and together they established Western Hotels, and in 1958 properties were merged into a single corporate structure focusing on bringing the hotels together under a common chain identity. Western Hotels managed a floating hotel aboard the ocean liner QSMV Dominion Monarch, during the Century 21 Exposition in Seattle in 1962. The chain also managed the restaurant atop the Space Needle, which they continued to manage until 1982.
The company was renamed Western International Hotels in 1963, to reflect its growth overseas. That same year, the company went public. In 1970, the chain was acquired by UAL Corporation. For its 50th anniversary in 1980, the company changed its name again to Westin Hotels & Resorts.
+ For this Info:
Westin refreshed its partnership with United Airlines in 2008 and Delta Airlines in 2013. United began offering pillows and blankets from Westin's Heavenly Bed line on select United premium service routes between New York City and California, as well as Westin decorations and scents in some Red Carpet Club lounges. These amenities were stopped following the merger with Continental Airlines.
Since 2005, the number of hotels has grown from 120 locations in 24 countries to over 192 locations in 37 countries as of 2013.

Honolua Bay is one of the best snorkeling spots on Maui. It is very rocky and not a great beach for other activities. I saw huge turtles and multiple types of fish while snorkeling there.

Which room amenities are available at Aston Kaanapali Shores? This jewel of a beachfront resort consists of 483 units in two buildings nine stories high on just over ten acres. Most of the condos face the ocean for beautiful views of the Pacific. Others toward the back of the resort see more of the West Maui Mountains. There are seven different floor plans from studio up to two-bedroom units. There are 50 studio one-bath units sporting 507 square feet and 142 one-bedroom, one bath units from 717 to 853 square feet. The two-bedroom units all have two bathrooms and vary from 964 to 1507 square feet. The floorplans make good use of the generous size of each type of unit. Most have good sized lanais and large master bedroom windows for gorgeous views from both. About half of them look out over the lush gardens, pools, and recreation areas out to the blue Pacific Ocean, Molokai and Lanai islands.
These condos are nicely furnished, and owners keep their units upgraded with modern countertops, appliances, and floor coverings. One of the absolute best features of Ka’anapali Shores is central air conditioning included in the fixed, monthly maintenance fee. No separate utility bills! The gardens are well kept and there is lots of space for playing catch, frizzbie, bean bag toss, or just lounging. The spacious garden pool is great for young children and adults with changing lights, a bridge, spouting water features, and a waterfall. Right next to it is a large hot pool with whirlpool jets enough for 10-12 people. Head toward the oceanfront for another very nice sized pool that is deeper and shaped for lap swimmers and even scuba lessons once a week. In the same area, there is another smaller jacuzzi that holds 6 to 8 people comfortably. While there, enjoy poolside bar and restaurant service, individual cabanas, lots of chaise lounges, and even tables with gas heating for evening comfort and conversation. There is a kiosk to exchange towels, rent equipment and get advice on water sports and activities up and down Ka’anapali Beach. The full-service restaurant and bar at this pool has great food at reasonable prices, live music, Hawaiian entertainment making for a great time without ever leaving the resort. Sunsets are beautiful followed by lighting of the tiki lamps and birds chirping to celebrate another great day at Ka’anapali Shores. There is a convenience store, clothing/souvenir store, spa treatments, beauty shop, and gym right in the main building of the resort. DOORS OFF HELICOPTER TOUR OF WEST MAUI! | Maui vlog #4
Riding around in a helicopter is by far the BEST way to see Maui! Especially when the helicopter has no doors!
There are so many tall waterfalls that there's no other way to get to them other than by waterfall. It definitely felt like we were going to Jurassic Park and the theme was running through my head the entire ride. Although the hefty price tag, it was worth every single penny and I highly recommend the doors off as there's nothing obstructing your view of the beautiful landscape of Hawai'i.

Most Epic Maui Whale Watch EVER - part 2
Check out this close-up humpback whale watching encounter just off the shores of west Maui! Often referred to as a whale ‘mugging,’ these two guys were extremely fortunate to get the whale watch of a lifetime as they prepared to go scuba diving:
Filmed off of the coast of west Maui’s Lahaina Town, this video was captured from a 10 foot zodiac boat on an iPhone and a GoPro and is one of the closest encounters we’ve ever seen on film!
If you plan to travel to Maui, Hawaii, from the period of mid December to mid May, you’re just in time to witness the Aloha State’s favorite time of year: whale season. The 5th largest species of whale in the world, these majestic humpbacks make their annual journey from the shores of Alaska to Hawaii each year in order to mate, give birth and nurse their young in the warm, shallow waters surrounding Hawaii. On Maui in particular, humpback whales particularly seem to love the shallow and protected Au’au Channel, which lies conveniently between west Maui and our neighbor island of Lanai.
While chasing after humpbacks is strictly prohibited, it’s a truly memorable experience when they take the time to approach you instead! You can see these stunning creatures during whale season on Maui on one of many popular whale watching tours, whether by boat with Kai Kanani and Redline Rafting or by outrigger canoe, stand up paddleboard or kayak with Hawaiian Paddle Sports and Maui Kayak Adventures. Additionally, you’re often even lucky enough to spot them from shore while lounging at the beach! Just remember to always pull over, park and get out of your car if the sudden urge to whale watch while driving hits.
When viewing them from the water, you may even get lucky enough to hear the males as they sing, and witness the many playful behaviors they exhibit on the surface of the water, including fluke up and down dives, blowing, pec and tail slapping, spy hopping, head slapping and breaching.
Truly an unforgettable experience in Maui, we recommend whale season for new and return visitors to The Valley Isle. Aloha!
MAUI VACATION: MAUI BLOW HOLE HIKE ON THE NAKALELE BLOWHOLE TRAIL VIDEO TOUR
On our Maui vacation, we hike to the Nakalele Blowhole in Maui, Hawaii. We took the longer of the two options to get to this blowhole.
If you're less mobile or traveling with little ones, the closer area at the 38.5mm would probably be your best choice. This area is also overlooking the blowhole so those who prefer can view it from a distance without having to hike.
I'm going to describe Nakalele Point as it unfolds on a 1.25 mile hike (round-trip) from the other parking area (38mm.) As long as you're able to hike though somewhat rough terrain, taking this route is actually better for seeing all the places listed below.
What is a blowhole?
A blowhole is hole in the ground that connects to an underground, partially submerged ocean cave. The cave and opening are shaped in such a way that when the ocean rises or waves crash into it, a jet of water and air is violently forced out through the hole.
Warning -- begin safety lecture: You'll undoubtedly see people walk up to the blowhole and look in, or position loved ones very close while they try and snap that perfect picture. If you come from a place where they would put a barrier around dangers, then they would definitely have one around this. In Maui it has been customary to allow the careless free control over their destiny. If you get too close to this you can be sucked in, drown and/or be bashed to bits by the ocean (or likely some combination.) It has happened. Stay back, because this blowhole can sometimes be unpredictably violent and powerful in between more modest displays. End lecture
Between the 38mm parking area and the light beacon is a maze of dirt bike and ATV trails. These trails were laid without a destination in mind, so just pick any trail that suits your mood and meander out toward the light beacon.
Light Beacon & Tidepools
Light-what? Think of it as a lighthouse, only smaller and stripped of all charm and artistic value. (I can just see that slogan now on the travel brochures!) But what this beacon lacks in ambiance it makes up for in views. Stand on the concrete slab adjacent and you'll also get a good view of the tidepools below. What you'll also see is an old rickety ladder, precariously positioned on the cliff-edge, beckoning with the promise to deliver adventure. (At least that's the way it looks to me...) As tempting as it may look, going down to this tidepool area (let alone on an old precariously positioned rickety ladder of questionable functionality), well...lets just say it is certainly not advisable.
As you continue on, the trail goes downhill for a short bit, and this is the likely going to be the strongest test of your sure-footedness. If you're with a group (and especially kids who can't resist the temptation to release kenetic energy) being at the back of the line here is key strategy for remaining upright throughout your descent. Once at the bottom you'll begin to get some previews of the Acid War Zone and some more dramatic views of ocean and coast, along with another very nice tidepool, this one fed in part by a small blowhole of its own. (Don't confuse this with the main attraction!)
Acid War Zone
The fantastic name of Acid War Zone has been coined for an area between the light beacon and the Nakalele Blowhole. It is a sight that is definitely impressive and worth checking out when you find yourself out here for the blowhole. As the name aptly describes, it is a barren landscape where boulders have been severely pock-marked, sculpted, perched precariously, and otherwise dramatically eroded by countless years of salt water spray.
The prime attraction of the Nakalele Point is, of course, the blowhole. A blowhole's effect is much like that of a geyser: a hole in the ground with a jet of water shooting periodically into the air. (See sidebar for technical description & safety.) This blowhole is large enough to accommodate a manhole cover and is powerful enough to easily blast it high in the air -- especially during high surf and tides. (tide forecast) Some jets can approach 50+ feet and if you're close enough you can feel the ground tremble beneath your feet as water is blasted skywards. Now, I know no one likes safety lectures -- but I have never once been here without seeing several people do incredibly stupid things. I figure it is because they don't know the safety info in the sidebar and/or figure some governmental authority is looking out for their safety (just for the record, they're not.)
