North Coast Visionaries Part 1
This documentary was produced by Claire Reynolds and Sam Greene of KEET TV, a PBS affiliate in Eureka, California. This 2009 production includes interviews with Eric and Viviana Hollenbeck sharing their passion for the work they do with young people as well as footage of the Blue Ox Community School students and the staff of Blue Ox at work.
Through a community outreach grant from the PBS program FRONTLINE/World and The Skoll Foundation, KEET-TV produced this documentary about some of Humboldt County's social entrepreneurs. Social entrepreneurs create new and sustainable markets and services that benefit underserved communities. Their ideas leap beyond charity to find systemic solutions to poverty, education, health and social justice. Featured were Internews, an international media development organization; The Blue Ox School of Traditional Arts, a high school of traditional arts for at-risk youth; and Economic Fuel: The Humboldt County Student Business Challenge, a privately funded program to train and fund burgeoning entrepreneurs; and Economic Fuel grantee Wild Chick Farm.

Eureka California 1902 Panoramic Bird's Eye View Map 6939
Panoramic Maps, also known as Bird's Eye View, aerial view, or perspective maps. These were a popular form of art at the turn of the 20th century depicting a city's key points of interest.
Unlike traditional maps, Panoramic maps often highlighted the commercial aspects of a town, while also clearly showing many local residences.
I've had a lot fun looking up places I've been to on these maps -- and I've gotta say - It's amazing just how much things change -- and also how much things stay the same.
