Afternoon snorkel at Blue Pearl Bay, 22/04/2014
A nice little snorkel @ Blue Pearl Bay on Hayman Island out of Airlie Beach on a Wings Adventure.
Wife was a tiny bit sea-sick the last time we were there (January 2013) but this more than made up for it.
Presumably the large wrasse featured around half way through this clip is the one known as Priscilla. Happy to be corrected if I am mistaken.
lol @ all the photo-bombing by bastard fish going on. ;-)
Cheers to Clayton, Sammy, Su, and Captain Tristen ... and the full compliment of fare paying Adventurers on the April 22nd to 25th 2014 Emperor's Wings III sail/diving adventure.
A good and memorable time indeed ! :-)
BTW, that's Clayton doing the shaka sign from the helm of the RIB @ near the end of the clip. For more info on the origins and meaning of that sign, see:

WhitSunday's & the Great Barrier Island in Queensland, Australia
The Whitsundays is a stunning part of Australia. It's in Queensland between Brisbane and Cairns, with Airlie beach being the main starting point to exploring the Whitsunday islands.
This video shows the beauty of Whitehaven beach and exploring under the water at Bait Reef which is part of the Great Barrier Island.

Whitsunday Islands Great Barrier Reef Day Trip
A day trip on the sailing catamaran Illusions from Airlie Beach to Blue Pearl Bay at Hayman Island and Langford Reef. Along with a group of fellow tourists, I enjoyed snorkelling and scuba diving through the shallow coral reefs. The coral was spawning so the water was not perfectly clear.
I took this video using my Apple iPhone 4S fitted with a LifeProof case which is waterproof to 3 metres, thus suitable for snorkelling, but not scuba diving. I had the phone underwater for around 2 hours, took a heap of still 8MP photos and this video, which is edited down.
The LifeProof case worked really well. I was apprehensive at first, as I was in the ocean nowhere near the boat so if anything happened, no easy way to get the phone dry fast, but it was fine. I had no wrist strap which was a concern - dropping the phone would see it sink into the depths...
There are some clicks on the audio track, I think these relate to the audio saturating and being clipped by the iPhone software. The sound of my breathing through the snorkel can be heard throughout.
A few pointers - the touch screen does not work underwater. You must take still photos using the + volume button on the case side, not a problem, worked well. For video, you need to start the video running out of the water and stop it out of the water. Make sure the lens has no water on it when you start the video (shake it clear). Turn the phone to airplane mode as the cell phone reception and GPS and bluetooth and wi-fi all gobble power and none of them work underwater anyway.
For still photos, I used HDR mode and this gave far better results underwater for most shots that I took, when compared to the non-HDR photos. My battery level dropped way down after 2 hours of use underwater - keep this in mind, as the screen tended for me to be on all the time.
For the first three mins of this video the camera was in macro focus, due I think to water being on the lens when I started the recording. I did not notice this underwater. The screen is clear to see underwater, so you can frame quite well. Make sure you move slowly when the phone is within a few feet of the subject, I moved over the coral too fast most of the time. This was my first ever underwater filming, so I will do better next time :)
Being able to take bright, clear 1080p video underwater with a smart phone... how cool is that?

Snorkeling in Luncheon Bay, the Whitsunday Islands, Queensland, Australia
Snorkeling at Luncheon Bay in the outer Great Barrier Reef, Whitsunday Islands, the final morning of our 2.5 day, 2 night sailing trip aboard Emperors Wings. Lots of fish around this spot, although I had an extra wetsuit on that morning as I was a bit chilled after our scuba dive before hand, which made it a little too buoyant for snorkeling and tough to stay underwater without a weight belt.

Northern Exposure Whitehaven Beach and 2 Snorkel sites
For an exciting day in Airlie beach why not try out the Northern Exposure or Southern Lights.
Both are great days out, with the Southern Lights giving you a little more time at Whitehaven Beach.
We did the Northern Exposure and did the walk to the lookout over Hill Inlet then went for lunch on a secluded part of Whitehaven Beach where we were the only group around. Considering the size of the boat there were lots of choices for lunch. After lunch i strolled along the beach and saw Sting rays, Birds and fish.
One snorkel spot has a lot of fish life and the other is more about the coral of the Great Barrier Reef.
All the crew were super friendly and the boat was fast, comfortable and fun, another great way to see Whitehaven Beach.
