Vlog hike to Mt. Woodson from Blue Sky Ecological Reserve. San Diego, CA
I have hiked Cowles Mtn. numerous times it's sad actually, Iron Mtn a couple times, Palomar mtn observatory trail (hiked and rode my mtn bike down it when it snowed), Sunset cliffs (that's not really hike, that's more of a flat leisure walk, Idk why it was listed in hikes.com), Laguna trails (Probably all of them, and rode my mtn bike on them), Mission Trails (There's a handful out there, I did a couple including where the rock climbers are, that one was fun because as a hiker, you yourself have to grab and press your body against the rocks to get across, I recommend having someone whose been there before take you if you're a first timer.), Penasquitos trail, and hmm that's all I could think of at the top of my head at the moment. So I have a gyst of what to compare a new hike with (concentrating only on hikes located in San Diego).
Mt. Woodson was mentioned as somewhat strenuous. It's a constant climb from either Blue Ecological Reserve Trail Head or Lake Poway Trail Head. You will be climbing a mtn, so of course its an incline, yet when you get to the base of Mt. Woodson its a steep climb. A wee bit steeper, just a little bit, and the switch back are tighter than Iron Mtn. You will be climbing up over a few boulders and sometimes along the way some steps were made into the earth. As you're hiking Mt. Woodson, you may think you've reached the top because it will level out, but you haven't. The mountain just psyched you. It will incline again. The mountain has flat paths a couple times, psyching you out, which was frustrating as a first timer since I always thought sweet, i'm here, wait? no? dang. I'm pretty sure the second time I will not get my hopes up as I know where I am going now.
At the top, Potato Chip Rock is the main event. I have read weekends are the worse as everyone hikes it and there is a long line to take a picture on the rock. I went during the week, and there was only a handful of us. They were really nice. Ended up making some friends and learned about yoga.
The view at the top is SO worth it. I also got the best breeze at the top. If you hike up past the potato chip rock, it's just towers yet on the right, there's another rock to sit on off the ledge. I sat there for my own private peaceful time. I ended up spending an hour up there. Great place to think and it is an accomplishment to hike up Mt. Woodson, so i earned my hour with the view.
A lot of locals hike this trail, they only carry a water bottle which to me, as an avid hiker, i am amazed at these athletes. I'm always sipping on water. Bring water as it will get hot. It got hotter for me on my way down and took a toll on my mind. Dang hot orb in the sky.
Overall, the view, is so worth it.
Haha, also make sure to have the right shoes and hiking socks! haha
For more information:
I parked at Blue Sky Ecological Reserve which saves you 5 dollars and adds 2 miles to the hike. Making it a 10 mile round trip. Here's a link for directions and information on the trail.
When I hiked during the week there was a handful of people on the trail. Awesome people I got to talk to and hang out with. One of them was Vicki and she's a yoga instructor. Really strong. I suppose her studio will be uploading yoga videos online so people could do yoga at home. Hearthum.com
My friend has been trying to tell me the importance of yoga yet I am too impatient. Vicki told me about Vinyasa which is a constant movement of poses. I will definitely check it out. Thank you Vicki and hope to see you again either on the trails or out and about :)
Looking forward to the yoga videos, Until then here's a link to where Vicky could be located at for Yoga

Rocklin, California Mormon Helping Hands April 30, 2011
180 volunteers converged on Rocklin's Whitney High School and Rock Creek Elementary School, on a chilly windy Saturday morning, to pull weeds, spread bark and help beautify the schools. Partnering with the Rocklin Unified School District, The local projects, sponsored by the Rocklin Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, were part of a state-wide coordinated event, with hundereds of projects in parks, schools and others. Started in 1998 in South America, MHH projects have gained world-wide popularity. Coordinated service projects like these help improve our communities, while at the same time keeping volunteers practiced at mobilizing for emergencies. And beside that, it's just plain fun to work. :-)
