We Fly from Siem Reap back to Phnom Penh City | Travel by Air with Cambodia Angkor Air in Cambodia
It's a great experience to travel by air as we usually travel by car, van, bus, and motorcycle. We visited Siem Reap province, we took Tuk Tuk to see the temples, we ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner in Krong Siem Reap. It's the last day, we ate dinner at the Blue Pumpkin restaurant and traveled by Tuk Tuk to Siem Reap international Airport to fly back to Phnom Penh city. It was good and exciting and a really fast transportation, just 45minutes fly from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh city. My kids really love it, they love to fly. Hope for next time trip to Siem Reap.

Coming to Cambodia we were not sure if we want to spend that much money on the entrance fee for Angkor. We are glad we did and we are also happy that we decided to go all or nothing and hired this amazing TukTuk driver Mr. Bean for one day (9 hours in total). Best 30 Dollars we spent on a guide ever!

Deep in the forests of Cambodia’s Siem Reap province, an ancient stone city soars skyward. This is the sprawling complex of Angkor Archaeological Park. The site is located in the northwestern region of the country and is only four miles from the city of Siem Reap. The Khmer Empire’s various capitals thrived here from the 9th to 15th centuries, over an empire that stretched from Myanmar to Vietnam. Including forested areas and newly discovered “suburbs” Angkor covers more than 400 square miles—an area considerably larger than New York City’s five boroughs.
The massive Angkor Wat is the most famed of all Cambodia’s temples—it even appears on the nation’s flag. The 12th century “temple-mountain” was built as a spiritual home for the Hindu god Vishnu.
The temples of Angkor are architectural masterpieces laden with artistic treasures like the bas-relief galleries that tell enduring tales of Cambodian history and legend.
Angkor is as much about water as it is about stone—the site boasts an enormous system of artificial canals, dikes, and reservoirs. The West Baray reservoir is the largest of which at 5 miles long and 1.5 miles wide. These massive works skillfully harnessed river and rainwater to quench the thirst of some 750,000 residents in the world’s largest preindustrial city. That water also irrigated wealth-producing crops like rice, which served the Khmer as currency.
It’s still a mystery to scientists why the city’s rulers abandoned the site and resettled near the modern capital of Phenom Penh. Some scholars speculate that the downfall of this elaborate water system led to the end of Angkor.
The town of Siem Reap is the gateway to Angkor and is filled with lodging, dining, and tour-package options for all budgets. Those preferring to travel by boat can also make the trip from Phnom Penh in some five or six hours—about the same travel time as by road. The airport in Siem Reap has service to Phnom Penh and regular flights abroad to Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, and Laos. The airport in Siem Reap has service to the capital and regular flights to nearby countries.
Peak tourist season in Angkor is December and January, when rainfall is less likely and the climate is most kind. No matter the time of year, a visit to Angkor is sure to leave you awestruck.

Cambodia to Vietnam!
From Than Son Nhat International Airport, we took a cab (Vinasun Taxi) to Pham Ngu Lao Street where our hotel is located. The fare was about $8 to $10 for 8-10 kilometers from the Airport. Travel time from the airport to Pham Ngu Lao Street by taxi was, more or less, 20 minutes. We spent our night in Ngo Clinh Hotel for $18. The room has 2 bedroom with aircon, refrigerator,tv set, cabinet and toilet/bathroom with hot shower.
We had our breakfast at Burger King near our hotel. After that, we went to Kumho Samco (one of the bus companies doing direct buses between Ho Chi Minh and Phnom Penh) to buy bus tickets for our trip to Cambodia. 1 ticket costs $10.Then,we went back to our hotel,we packed our things and checked out at exactly 12 am.
Travel Time from Ho chi Minh to Phnom Penh is about 6-8 hours. When we were on board, the bus steward collected our passports as soon as the bus left its parking space. Upon reaching the Vietnam Border Exit, we got off from the bus and waited inside the building while the passports were being stamped with the exit date. The bus steward was the one who gave our passports to the Vietnamese immigration officer. When we've got our passports after 20-30 minutes of waiting,we immediately walked through the immigration bar gate and exited the building. We again boarded on our bus that was waiting beside the immigration building. The bus moved forward for about 300 meters and left the compound of the Vietnamese immigration authority.
The bus entered the compound of the Cambodian immigration authority and stopped at the building where the Cambodian passport checkpoint is located. We presented our passport personally to the Cambodian immigration officer for the stamping of entry date. The officer checked our passport and scanned our fingerprint. When everything was done,we went back to the bus again.
There was one 20-minute stop over after the bus has travelled about 1 or 2 kilometers away from the border. The travel time from the stop-over point to Phnom Penh is at least 4 hours. We departed from Pham Ngu Lao at 1:30 pm and we arrived in Phnom Penh at around 9 pm.

Tatai Resort - Japan Bay - Dara Sakor Hotel - Attraction in Koh Kong
We just had a boat tour along Tatai Stream and now we got back on the bus driving from Tatai Resort crossing Tatai bridge (Phum Daung bridge or Daung village bridge) and hit the national road 48 heading to Dara Sakor Hotel. It's on the way from Koh Kong provincial town back to National Highway 4 but it's just half way back then we can see a big billboard of Dara Sakor Hotel and Resort, that where we can turn right for 68km. to Dara Sakor Resort. We had to visit Japan Bay to see the bridge construction by Chinese company. We called it Japan Bay (Poy Japon or Poy Lam Thean) cuz in World War 2, Japan used this bay to transport their people and equipment using this port. Now it's belong to Dara Sakor. The beautiful sunset at Dara Sakor is what we came here for. Unfortunately, that day the sun stayed behind a big cloud, we can only see some part of the sun nearly set at the west. We had lunch at 7 stars restaurant and continue to Dara Sakor Hotel in the evening for a night stay there.

This video clip will see decoration during the water festival in Siem Reap. If you didn't visit just see this video
he Water Festival (ព្រះរាជពិធីបុណ្យអ៊ុំទូក) is one of the most important holidays in Cambodia.
The Water Festival takes place over three days in November all over Cambodia, with the biggest celebrations along the Tonle Sap River in front of Royal Palace in Phnom Penh. The Water Festival was first celebrated in the 12th century, around the time of Angkorian King Jayavarman VII. The King’s Navy helped usher in the Cambodian fishing season. The festivities made the gods happy and secured good harvests of rice and fish in the upcoming year. Another story is that Bon Om Touk was a way for the King to prepare his navy for battle. There are carvings at Bayon Temple, at Banteay Chmear that show naval battles similar to the boat races in present-day celebrations. The festival is celebrated in every province, but many Cambodians make a special trip from the provinces to the capital city, Phnom Penh. They usually spend at least two day enjoying the festivities. In Phnom Penh people gather for big boat races, illuminated floats (លយប្រទីប), a moon salutation (សំពះព្រះខែ) and eating of special rice made with banana or coconut juice (អកអំបុក). Many people spend all their time at the boat races, finding a spot along the river, laying out a picnic mat, eating and drinking, and cheering for their teams. Boat race participants usually arrive a few days before to practice along the Tonle Sap River. The boats are often sponsored by individual donors and government officials.
At night, after the races, you will see people floating small, handmade boats in the river along with many, many floating candles. Different government ministries create their own larger illuminated boats. Later in the evening, there are beautiful fireworks displays that last around 20 minutes.
What can you do during the Water Festival, It is a national three-day holiday, so many Cambodians spend the time celebrating with their families. They go to see the boat racing and some travel around the provinces to see how they celebrate the water festivals in different communities.
The second night of the Water Festival is a full moon, and many celebrate and pray to the moon by putting things like fruits, coconuts and special rice in front of their houses. They believe that by doing so, the moon will give them good luck. My mother says, “There is a rabbit living in the moon and looking at us,” and I believe her.
Water Festival celebrations in the provinces is little different compared to the city. I remember when I was a child living in Kampong Cham province, my brother and I going to the pagoda to see people dancing and lanterns floating up into the sky. People in my hometown make illuminated boats with flowers or lotus leaves and put candles inside. Along the road there no electricity, only the moon light. Sometimes, I really miss my childhood at this time.
Now I live in Siem Reap and have come to enjoy the festival here. In 2015 many people celebrated the Water Festival in Siem Reap. It is a good alternative to Phnom Penh because people can also visit the temples of Angkor at the same time. There are also exhibitions of products and services along the river, and also entertainment at night. I hope this upcoming water festival will keep bringing a lot of Cambodians and tourists to visit.
