Tortola, B.V.I. Lionfish, February 2012
Dive buddy Kevin Flynn (from boatworksinc.com) spotted the Lionfish when we first descended. (Sorry Kevin, I only captured your fins). After the first transition, you can see when our Blue Water Dive Master, Boot, gets the message that there is a Lionfish in the reef. He then dispatches the invader with a spear-gun and knife. It's a shame that these beautiful fish are an invasive species in the Caribbean and have to be sacrificed so that the native reef fish juveniles aren't mercilessly devoured by them. It looks bad, but humans are the only species capable of preying upon them until the large Groupers and Green Morays begin to take them in greater numbers. Fishermen and spear-gun hunters, don't take large Groupers so that the Lionfish population is kept in check! Otherwise, if you see Lionfish in the Caribbean, or on the eastern U.S. coast, spear as many of them as you can without getting stung. Dive Master Rupert at Blue Water Divers will tell you that a Lionfish sting can nearly cost you a thumb and keep you out of work for a month.
Another Beautiful Dive with Blue Water Divers.

Sail Caribbean Divers - Vanishing Rock dive, British Virgin Islands
Come Dive the BVI with Sail Caribbean Divers.
Sail Caribbean Divers is PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Resort in the British Virgin Islands.
PADI Green Star Award recipients .
Vanishing Rock is situated on the eastern side of Salt Island, having the Cooper Island on the right side.
Located near one of the most famous diving site in BVI, the RMS Rhone, Vanishing Rock is a shallow coral reef that is home to some colorful and interesting wildlife, like anemones, shrimps, squirrelfish, grunts, sergeant majors, green moray eels, lobsters and nurse sharks. Gorgonians and colorful sponges coat the rocky topography and the sandy bottom, creating a very picturesque sight. In the deeper waters you’ll find Sergeant Major City and if you go even further you will be witnessing Sergeant Major Suburbs; both these pillar coral architectures are boasting with marine creatures so make sure to check them out.

Rupert finds a Lionfish, Tortola, B.V.I., February, 2012
On his first day back from being stung by a Lionfish and almost losing his finger and missing a month of work, Dive Master Rupert spots and marks the position of another invasive Lionfish. The floating cork marker that you see is the marker he left as a warning. At the end of the dive he went back and speared two Lionfish at the marked site. These Lionfish are an invasive species in the Caribbean and are a severe threat to native reef fish populations. If you see a Lionfish in the Caribbean or on the eastern coast of the U.S., sacrifice it to save native fish populations. Do NOT come in contact with the venomous spines! Spear it and humanely dispatch it quickly with a long-blade knife. I always have great dives with Blue Water Divers.
