Hail Damage Bluemont VA 6-16-2016
Hail Damage Bluemont VA 6-16-2016
Large Hail hit Bluemont VA on Thursday night on 6-16-2016. It was golf ball to baseball size hall, that is hail from 1.75” to 2.50” large. Car windows were broken, all types of roofs including metal roofs were hit by the hail and most were damaged. This was a large Hail storm for Bluemont VA and the residents are still trying to figure out what was damaged. Some of our pre painted metal roofs that will only receive damage if the hail is hard and greater than golf ball size which is larger than 1.50” where damaged. This means old tin roof that are 30 year old or greater were all damaged.
If you have a metal roof call us for an inspection, our schedule is getting full by the phone call, so don’t miss out. If your metal roof is damage by hail it will be paid for by the insurance company, you will only have to pay for you deductible as per state law, which is normally $250-$1,000 (but check your policy to be sure).

Whitehall Lane : California Wine with Tony
Whitehall Land Winery in Rutherford, started in 1979, is a family-owned winery with 44 hectares of land. In the mid-19th century, Napa Valley settlers cultivated the land and made it ideal for winemaking.
And in 1993, the Leonardini Family of San Francisco took over the Whitehall Lane Estate. The winery, which uses state-of-the-art technology, ships 45,000 cases a year, mainly Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Barboursville Vineyards - Virginia
Owned since 1976 by the Zonin family of Italy, the historic Barboursville estate is named after the town, which in turn is named for James Barbour, a former governor and senator from Virginia in the early 1800s. In fact, Barbours old estate house (which burned in a fire in 1884), was designed by Thomas Jefferson, and had the familiar octagon-shaped parlor, a design used often by Jefferson. The Zonins ushered in the first successful vitis vinifera plantings in the state (Jefferson gave it more than a few tries, but wasnt successful).
Join us as we talk with Luca Paschina, General Manager and winemaker for the past 17 years. Well walk around the grounds and over to the estate house ruins, and then through their very modern winery. The tank room was huge, and we asked if they did custom crush here as well. No, he said, its like a kitchen. If you have extra pots and pans when you cook, you dont need to wash anything out to use it. In other words, they had as much space as they needed without having to empty this or that tank for a new load of fruit. Luca feels that they are beginning to figure out what grows best here, and what makes the best wine. Interestingly (yet, maybe not so surprisingly), he said both Barbera and Nebbiolo do well, and Viognier is his choice as most successful white grown in the vineyard. Also produced are Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc, as well as Sauvignon Blanc, Reisling, and Pinot Grigio.

BOORDY VINEYARDS HYDES MARYLAND USA
My husband and I did the wine tasting and tour of the Boordy Vineyard in Hydes, Maryland at the end of May. The wine is 'very' good. The tour guide Pat did a fantastic job explaining the process that a grape goes through from the beginning to the end product, wine. The Vidal Blank is aromatic, not too sweet and very enjoyable. I like how the bottle labels have a different symbols of the state's culture and environment on them.
The following I copied from the video BOORDY VINEYARD-MARYLAND
It tells about the vineyard better than I can.
Located in Hydes, Maryland, Boordy Vineyards was founded by Philip and Jocelyn Wagner, who established Marylands first commercial winery in 1945. Boordy is probably best known for introducing new varieties of French hybrid grapevines throughout the United States in the 1930s. Since 1980, Boordy has been owned by the R.B. Deford family, and is located on their historic 240-acre farm in the Long Green Valley of northeastern Baltimore County. The winery is housed in a 19th century stone barn whose thick walls keep the wine at cellar temperatures throughout the year.
Proprietor and winemaker Rob Deford attended UC Davis, but as he put it, there was never any doubt that I would come back here to Maryland to make wine. This was his home. Boordy currently produces 70,000 gallons of wine annually. In addition to the three generations of Estate vines, forty acres of grapes are cultivated in the Long Green Valley (Central Piedmont region) and in the Catoctin Mountains of western Maryland. Varieties grown include chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot, petit verdot, seyval blanc, and vidal blanc. Boordys winemaker since 1986 has been Tom Burns.
