Boao Forum 2018 to Open in China's Hainan
The Boao Forum for Asian Annual Conference 2018 will open in south China's Hainan Province Sunday morning.
The forum, scheduled for April 8 to 11 in Boao, a town in the southern island province of Hainan, will have the theme An Open and Innovative Asia for a World of Greater Prosperity.
Around 2,000 guests from over 60 countries and region will be attending the conference, along with representatives from more than 100 of the world’s top 500 companies.

Heavy Rain Hits South China, Affecting 23,000 People
Heavy rain hit most parts of south China's Hainan Province, disrupting traffic and affecting 23,000 people.
The heavy rain started on Monday night and lasted to Tuesday, sweeping northern, central and eastern parts of Hainan. Wanning City, Qionghai City, Qiongzhong Li and Miao Autonomous County, and Lingshui Li Autonomous County have issued rainstorm alerts.
On the morning of Tuesday, the flood level in the eastern sections of island-looping high-speed rails surpassed warning level. Some trains were delayed as to ensure safety, trains ran under the speed limit in the flooded sections. Wanning section of the island-looping high-speed rails was once suspended.
Since Monday night, the widespread rain in the eastern and central parts reached the level of rainstorm or torrential rain. In Wanning, extraordinary rainstorm hit certain areas. Some meteorological stations saw precipitation of 335 millimeters, said Chen Hong, Chief forecaster of Hainan Provicial meteorological observatory.
As of 13:00 Tuesday, the water level in the Renli River in Wanning City had exceeded the outlet of flood drainage system. A total of 23,000 people in 78 villages in Wancheng Town were affected, among which 4200 people have been brought to safe places.
Local relevant departments have carried out emergency measures to drain floodwater and relief traffic congestion. As of 17:00 Tuesday, floodwater in most areas of Wanning has been drained.

Typhoon Sarika Causes Flooding, Power Outage China's Island Province
Typhoon Sarika has caused flooding and power outage in a number of cities and town in south China's island province of Hainan.
Unsteady, partly-damaged video footages recorded the violent scenes on Tuesday.
Pictures show a reporter and a cameraman struggling to plant a foothold and their words barely audible under the heavy rainfalls and the gale-force winds.
Typhoon Sarika landed in Wanning City of the province on Tuesday morning.
In the town of Boao, the site of the annual high-level Boao Forum, the huge waves kicked up by the Typhoon damaged a section of the sea embankment along the coastal highway.
We have recovered part of the embankment. We told tourists and local villagers not to come to the coastal areas, said Wu Jianqiang, head of the town of Boao.
Cleanup has started after rains and winds abated later on Tuesday.
Haikou, the provincial capital, has experienced strong winds of up to 117 kilometers per hour and the rain brought by the winds caused severe flooding in many sections of the roads and power outage in most areas of the city.
On Qiuhai Avenue, one of the main roads in the city of Haikou, the ponding was of about knee-deep. Drainage workers and recovery vehicles were at the scene, trying to drain off the flood water.
We will wait and try to carry out drainage operation anytime when it is possible. Even if the situation does not permit, we have to report about the precipitation and depth of water every two hours, said one of the drainage worker.
The local power supply department is currently collecting information about power supply in the province, waiting for the rains and winds to weaken so that they can dispatch workers to repair lines and poles. More on:

Typhoon Sarika Lands in Coastal City of Wanning
Typhoon Sarika landed at 09:50 Tuesday in the coastal city of Wanning, south China's island province of Hainan, according to the National Meteorological Center.
Sarika, the 21st typhoon of the year, landed in the town of Hele, with winds up to 45 meters per second.
China's southern island province of Hainan had taken precautionary measures against the typhoon, evacuating 520,000 people on Monday.
The city of Wanning recalled the more than 2,100 fishing vessels to port and provided more than 137,000 fisherman and construction workers with temporary shelters.
All kindergartens, middle and primary schools in Wanning canceled classes.
All the scheduled flights were canceled in Haikou and Sanya and so were the high-speed trains connecting cities in Hainan.

BEIJING: The first typhoon of the year to hit China is expected to make landfall on or near the southern island of Hainan today, which should help ease a severe drought on the tourist centre and rubber producer, state news agency Xinhua said.
Typhoon Kujira will sweep over the Paracel Islands in the South China Sea before hitting land somewhere between Wanning on Hainan and Zhanjiang in the neighbouring province of Guangdong, bringing strong winds and heavy rainfall, Xinhua said late on Sunday.
It is expected to weakened gradually after reaching land, the report added.
But it should help ease Hainan's worst drought in more than half a century, Xinhua said, which has affected about one-third of the island, a place China likes to style its answer to Hawaii or Phuket.
