Preliminary Notice of Race
37th Annual Bay to Bay Trailable Yacht Race
29th April and 30th April 2017
Proudly conducted by the Hervey Bay Sailing Club & sponsored by the Hervey Bay Boat Club
with the support of kindred clubs Tin Can Bay Yacht Club and Hervey Bay Boat Club Yacht Squadron, rescue organizations
Coast Guard Tin Can Bay, Coast Guard Sandy Straits and Volunteer Marine Rescue Hervey Bay and other sponsors, boat owners, businesses and others
The Hervey Bay Sailing Club invites entries from eligible Trailable Yachts to sail in the 37th Annual Bay to Bay Trailable Yacht Race which is a Category 5 passage race approximately 90km long sailed in two legs from Tin Can Bay along the Tin Can Bay Inlet, the Great Sandy Strait and into Hervey Bay on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 April 2017 on the Queensland Labour long weekend.
The thrill of sailing through this largely underpopulated and picturesque wilderness area across the pristine waters of the Great Sandy Marine Park and past the World Heritage listed Fraser Island and the Great Sandy National Park, mooring overnight in Garrys anchorage and being a part of the spectacle of more than 130 trailable yachts sailing in close company of so many trailable yachts on virtually all points of sailing with all boats carrying spinnakers at times has taken such a special place in the hearts of so many that the 120 entries in the inaugural event in 1981 swelled to 230 in the hey days of the 90s, held steady at about 190 for decades and in recent years has held steady at about 140.
Honestly can you see yourself not wanting to be a part of the 37th Annual Bay to Bay Trailable Yacht Race sailed over the Queensland Labour Day long weekend 29th and 30th April 2017. The Bay to Bay is an event that is inclusive of all trailable yacht types from standard, light displacement planning and sports boat trailable yacht monohulls and standard and powerful sports trailable yacht multihulls that provides mixed fleet CBH, SMS or OMR corrected time racing for the eligible boats of the serious racing fraternity and all inclusive Personal Based Handicap corrected time results for the less serious racing and cruising sailing fraternity and those serious skippers and crews who do not feature in the CBH, SMS or OMR results.
This 37th Bay to Bay will be one of the largest trailable yachting events in Australia that has attracted entries form Perth in Western Australia right around through coastal, hinterland and inland communities of Victoria, the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Queensland and Darwin in the Northern Territory and from across the Tasman in New Zealand over its continuous 36 years of Bay to Bay sailing.
You must go to the event website herveybaysailingclub.org.au and click on “2016 Bay to Bay All Provisional Results” to find links to the 36th Bay to Bay results and photographs and videos (photos by Julie Geldard ) and the preliminary 37th Annual Bay to Bay notice to find out more about how to be a part of this history making event which over 36 continuous years of trailable yacht racing has seen with an average of about 160 boats make more than 6000 boat passages and twenty three thousand person passages.
The event program will include:
Friday 28 April 2017 and Saturday 29 April 2017 launching with temporary Snapper Creek boat harbour anchoring overnight Friday and Saturday morning (strictly in the shallow water between the channel and the shore in front of the TCBYC), Friday overnight parking and Saturday morning launching next to the Tin Can Bay Yacht Club.
Bus transfers from Hervey Bay on Friday evening 6:30pm and Saturday morning 7:15am;

Wathumba Creek Trip-April 09
Music: I wish you were here by Incubus
This is a video of the sail back from Wathumba Creek on Fraser Island to Hervey Bay. 55km in 6 hours.
The trip started slow with a beat out through the mouth of the creek with some breaking waves. There was a good period with 10-12knots (got to Moon Point in about 2 hours) before the wind died out and left us rocking about in the swell fighting the out going tide.
Excuse the crap footage and editing. (Why is the engineer doing this anyway...)
North Again 9 Pancake Creek to Home
This is the last Video of this playlist. We hope you have enjoyed cruising north with us this season. It's time for some boat maintenance and then a trip south to Sydney later in the year early 2019.
We leave from Pancake Creek and cruise down into Moreton Bay, stopping at Bundaberg and The Sandy Strait. With thime on our hands we spend a week exploring the Brisbane River.
We hope that our videos encourage others to get on board and experience this fantastic lifestyle. We travel a lot and edit when back at base. (better computer)
