Caldon Canal at Cheddleton, by RC boat Antares
Video taken from radio-controlled boat on Caldon canal at Cheddleton. Starts just north of Basford Bridge (bridge #44, near The Boat public house, ST13 7EQ) to Woods Lock (lock #15) . Boat is Vic Smeed's Moonglow design and was built by me in 1971! Motor is original Marx Decaperm Special. Electronic speed control is Mtronics Tio Marine 15 (making the motor whistle). Battery is 2 x 2S 5Ah 20C Li-Po in parallel (7.4V,10Ah). Max. speed is around 5 knots; duration at least 1 hour. Two cameras are Mini DV-EG002 720P, 30fps, plastic-case version (similar to MD80), with 8GB microSD, mounted inside cabin.

I've been wanting to get another canoe video in the bag for sometime now, and this Saturday (Mar 1st 2014) was an opportunity to good to miss! Despite a favourable weather forecast it still took me till the night before to decide to go for a paddle, but really glad I did. Our video is a guided circular walk in Staffordshire from Deep Hayes Country Park. We start by following the Caldon Canal to Cheddleton Flint Mill then make our way to Stanley Pool before rejoining Canal again.This is a beautiful easy walk following the towpath at the side of the Caldon Canal. The rest of the walk is on minor tarmac road, tracks and paths through grass fields with gates, stiles and small footbridges.
Elevation: approx lowest point 135.80m (445.54ft) approx highest point 248.40m (814.96ft) approx ascent 257.20m (843.83ft)
Approx 7.75 miles allow 3 - 4 hours using OS Explorer Map OL24, The Peak District, White Peak area. This walk is done clockwise.
Start point: Deep Hayes Country Park car park.

5197 is an S160 class built in the U.S.A. during WWII and used by the US Army Transport Corps in Britain. This section of the Churnet is canalized. It merges with the Caldon Canal at Oakmeadow Ford Lock, near Cheddleton, and is navigable for a while until the two part again at Consallforge.
