The Koyna Dam is one of the largest dams in Maharashtra, India. It is a rubble-concrete dam constructed on Koyna River which rises in Mahabaleshwar, a hillstation in Sahyadri ranges. It is located in Koyna Nagar, Satara district, nestled in the Western Ghats on the state highway between Chiplun and Karad.
The main purpose of the dam is hydroelectricity with some irrigation in neighboring areas.

Venna lake is one of the major tourist attractions of Mahabaleshwar in Maharashtra state in India.
The lake is surrounded by trees on all sides. Tourists can enjoy a boat ride over the lake or a horse ride next to the lake. A number of small eateries line the banks of the lake. The Mahabaleshwar city market and the S.T. bus stand is about 2KM from the lake and makes for a nice walk during the day. Most tour operators include the Venna lake in their tours. In this video I've done a vlog about Koyna river trip while I was visiting my sister in law's place in India. I'm a Bangladeshi woman married to an Indian, so India is my second home country. This is the reservoir of the Dhom Dam which is on the river Krishna to the west of Wai town in Maharashtra. This year it has received a good rainfall and it is fun to do boating there.

Bhambavli Vajrai waterfall in Satara is the highest waterfall in India that falls down in 3 levels. It flows just next to the famous Kaas Plateau.
Location Address: Bhambavli Village, 29 km from Satara, Maharashtra (India).
Best Time To Visit: September to November is the best time to see this waterfall when it flows with its full capacity. It keeps on flowing all year round so you can visit this waterfall throughout the year. Avoid a visit to this spot in heavy rains.
Waterfall Height: 560 meters (1800 feet)
Bhambavli Vajrai Waterfall Information:
The scenic waterfall of Bhambavli Vajrai is one of the famous tourist attractions in Satara region. Divided into 3 different stages, it is India’s highest waterfall having a massive height of 1800 feet (560 meters). It is situated amidst Sahyadri Mountain Range and is 29 km away from Satara city. Waterfall lies very much close to the popular Kaas Plateau.
It is a perennial waterfall and keeps on flowing throughout the year. Do not try to reach to the base of Bhambavli Vajrai waterfall in monsoon season. Generally, it rains heavily in this region so it becomes dangerous to reach the base. Also, there are a large number of leeches in so please wear full sleeves and pant while visiting this spot.
This waterfall acts as source and starting point of Urmodi river. Further, the dam of Urmodi collects the water from a catchment area of this waterfall. You can also visit other attractions like Thoseghar Waterfall, Umrodi Dam Backwaters, Sajjangad Fort and trekking trails in the jungle of Bhambavli!
Waterfall History
This spot has also got a historical value. According to local legends, Shri Samarth Ramdas Swami reached the top of this mountain in just 3 steps. Since then this waterfall starts flowing in 3 tiers. He is known as one of the great saints in Maharashtra. Few ancient temples are also there in the vicinity of the waterfall.
A large number of Indian as well foreign tourists gives a visit to this waterfall due to its immense height and cascading flow. Especially in monsoon months, when waterfall flows to its maximum capacity, many tourists flock to Bhambavali to see stunning glimpses of Vajrai waterfall. Surrounding region also displays splendid natural beauty in the monsoon season.
Precautions:
The route to see the waterfall goes through confusing jungle hence it is advisable to take a guide from the Bhambavli village.
Please try to avoid the visit in heavy rains as it becomes dangerous to get till the base of the waterfall.
Do not enter in the vicinity of a waterfall as the water pools are very deep.
Do not carry or consume alcoholic drinks.

Try to visit between 08:00 am to 05:00 pm. It has a dense forest around it so avoid visiting this spot in the dark.
How To Reach
By Road: You can reach here by taking a personal vehicle otherwise by ST buses. Catch Aladwadi bus from Satara ST stand and ask them for Bhambavli village. Satara bus stand has nice connectivity to all major cities in Maharashtra like Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Aurangabad etc. It is 140 km away from Pune, 147 km from Kolhapur, 285 km from Mumbai and 818 km from Nagpur.
Nearest Railway Station: Satara station is the nearest railhead to reach Vajrai waterfall. You can hire private vehicles from the station till village.
Nearest Airport: Karad airport is the closest airport to this spot (65 km away). Pune airport at 147 km is another option.
Entry Fee/Ticket Charges: The entry to the waterfall is completely free.
Accommodation/ Staying Options: As it lies in a simple rural village, there are no proper hotels. But plenty of hotels & resorts are available in Satara for accommodation purpose. You can visit this place within one hour from Satara.
