Bob Dylan's road from Minnesota to the World
The young man from Hibbing released Highway 61 Revisited in 1965, and the rest, as they say, is history. Or is it? From his roots in Hibbing, to his rise as a cultural icon in New York, to his prominence on the worldwide stage, University of Minnesota professor Thomas Swiss discusses Bob Dylan's roots in Minnesota and how they have firmly grounded him as an international cultural and musical icon. Swiss, a College of Education and Human Development professor also breaks down how Dylan had an impact on other musicians and his longevity as an artist.

SUMMARY
=======
Bob Dylan (born Robert Allen Zimmerman; May 24, 1941) is an American singer-songwriter, author, and visual artist who has been a major figure in popular culture for more than fifty years. Much of his most celebrated work dates from the 1960s, when songs such as Blowin' in the Wind (1963) and The Times They Are a-Changin' (1964) became anthems for the civil rights movement and anti-war movement. His lyrics during this period incorporated a wide range of political, social, philosophical, and literary influences, defied pop-music conventions and appealed to the burgeoning counterculture.
Following his self-titled debut album in 1962, which mainly comprised traditional folk songs, Dylan made his breakthrough as a songwriter with the release of The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan the following year. The album featured Blowin' in the Wind and the thematically complex A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall. For many of these songs, he adapted the tunes and phraseology of older folk songs. He went on to release the politically charged The Times They Are a-Changin' and the more lyrically abstract and introspective Another Side of Bob Dylan in 1964. In 1965 and 1966, Dylan encountered controversy when he adopted electrically amplified rock instrumentation, and in the space of 15 months recorded three of the most important and influential rock albums of the 1960s: Bringing It All Back Home (1965), Highway 61 Revisited (1965) and Blonde on Blonde (1966). The six-minute single Like a Rolling Stone (1965) has been described as challenging and transforming the artistic conventions of its time, for all time.In July 1966, Dylan withdrew from touring after being injured in a motorcycle accident. During this period, he recorded a large body of songs with members of the Band, who had previously backed him on tour. These recordings were released as the collaborative album The Basement Tapes in 1975. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Dylan explored country music and rural themes in John Wesley Harding (1967), Nashville Skyline (1969), and New Morning (1970). In 1975, he released Blood on the Tracks, which many saw as a return to form. In the late 1970s, he became a born-again Christian and released a series of albums of contemporary gospel music before returning to his more familiar rock-based idiom in the early 1980s. The major works of his later career include Time Out of Mind (1997), Love and Theft (2001), Modern Times (2006) and Tempest (2012). His most recent recordings have comprised versions of traditional American standards, especially songs recorded by Frank Sinatra ...

BOB DYLAN - WikiVidi Documentary
Bob Dylan is an American singer-songwriter, author, and painter, who has been an influential figure in popular music and culture for more than five decades. Much of his most celebrated work dates from the 1960s, when he became a reluctant voice of a generation with songs such as Blowin' in the Wind and The Times They Are a-Changin' that became anthems for the Civil Rights Movement and anti-war movement. In 1965, he controversially abandoned his early fan-base in the American folk music revival, recording a six-minute single, Like a Rolling Stone, which enlarged the scope of popular music. Dylan's lyrics incorporate a wide range of political, social, philosophical, and literary influences. They defied existing pop-music conventions and appealed to the burgeoning counterculture. Initially inspired by the performances of Little Richard and the songwriting of Woody Guthrie, Robert Johnson, and Hank Williams, Dylan has amplified and personalized musical genres. In his recording ca...

SUMMARY
=======
Minnesota ( (listen)) is a state in the Upper Midwest and northern regions of the United States. Minnesota was admitted as the 32nd U.S. state on May 11, 1858, created from the eastern half of the Minnesota Territory. The state has a large number of lakes, and is known by the slogan the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Its official motto is L'Étoile du Nord (French: Star of the North).
Minnesota is the 12th largest in area and the 22nd most populous of the U.S. states; nearly 60% of its residents live in the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area (known as the Twin Cities), the center of transportation, business, industry, education, and government, and home to an internationally known arts community. The remainder of the state consists of western prairies now given over to intensive agriculture; deciduous forests in the southeast, now partially cleared, farmed, and settled; and the less populated North Woods, used for mining, forestry, and recreation.
Minnesota was inhabited by various indigenous peoples for thousands of years prior to the arrival of Europeans. French explorers, missionaries, and fur traders began exploring the region in the 17th century, encountering the Dakota and Ojibwe/Anishinaabe tribes. Much of what is today Minnesota was part of the vast French holding of Louisiana, which was purchased by the United States in 1803. Following several territorial reorganizations, Minnesota in its current form was admitted as the country's 32nd state on May 11, 1858. Like many Midwestern states, it remained sparsely populated and centered on lumber and agriculture. During the 19th and early 20th centuries, a large number of European immigrants, mainly from Scandinavia and Germany, began to settle the state, which remains a center of Scandinavian American and German American culture.
In recent decades, immigration from Asia, the Horn of Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America has broadened its demographic and cultural composition. The state's economy has heavily diversified, shifting from traditional activities such as agriculture and resource extraction to services and finance. Minnesota's standard of living index is among the highest in the United States, and the state is also among the best-educated and wealthiest in the nation.
Minnesota's Lost Mining Towns - Full Documentary
Sparta, Taconite Harbor, Genoa, Penobscot and Cooley live on in Northern Minnesota’s memory, although there are few physical remnants of the towns that claimed these names. These “locations”, as they were originally called, played a vital role in the development of the emerging mining industry on the Minnesota Iron Range. But, today, many of these locations are now only marked by grown over streets, an abandoned building, or have completely disappeared altogether, uprooted by the ever-changing needs of the mining industry.

Biography Of Bob Dylan American singer songwriter
Biography Of Bob Dylan American singer songwriter
Bob Dylan is one of the most influential singer-songwriters of the 20th century whose career began in the early 1960s with songs that chronicled social and political issues. He was born as
Robert Allen Zimmerman to Abram Zimmerman and Beatrice Stone in Minnesota where he was raised in a close-knit Jewish community. He attended Hibbing High School and as a student played
with many bands. He enrolled at the University of Minnesota in 1959. While in university he started performing at coffee houses and became active in the Dinkytown folk music circuit. After
quitting college in 1960 he went to New York City in 1961 in order to pursue a career in music. His eponymous debut album ‘Bob Dylan’ was released in 1962 but the album did not do well. The
next album he released ‘The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan’ (1963) became a big hit in both the United States and the United Kingdom. Over the 1960s he became immensely popular both as a song-
writer and a singer. One of his biggest hit single ‘Like a Rolling Stone’ was released in 1965 which peaked at no. 1 in the UK charts. In the 1970s he ventured into films and starred in the 1973
Western drama ‘Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid’. He embarked on a year-long world tour in 1978 in which he was accompanied by an eight piece band and three backing singers. Some of his biggest
albums of the period include ‘Infidels’ (1983), ‘Knocked Out Loaded’ (1986) and ‘Oh Mercy’ (1989). But he surprised his dissenters by producing the album ‘Time Out of Mind’ in 1997 which
went on to win three Grammy Awards including Album of the Year award. The prolific singer continued releasing albums even though now he was in his sixties, he still keeps active and
released the album ‘Tempest’ in 2012. Dylan released ‘Fallen Angels’ (2016) his thirty-seventh studio album which features more classic songs from the Great American Songbook. He has won
11 Grammy Awards. He received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award of the United States in May 2012. Bob Dylan won the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature “for having
created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition”. His paintings appear on the covers of his albums ‘Self Portrait’ (1970) and ‘Planet Waves’ (1974), and he has published
six books of his paintings and drawings, as well as exhibited his artwork around the world. He married Sara Lownds in 1965 and had four children with her. The couple divorced in 1977. Then
he formed a relationship with the singer Carolyn Dennis and married Carolyn in 1986. This marriage too ended in divorce in 1992.
