Playa Boca De Tomates, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
During my trip to Mexico in June 2017 me and my family went to Nuevo Vallarta to spend some days at the beach. We didn't want to just stay trapped at our resort and a friend recommended we check out Playa Boca De Tomates in Puerto Vallarta for some good reasonably priced seafood so we dedicated a day to go check it out.
Boca de Tomate, near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
That's what 2 bottles of wine and a couple tequila will do!
Boca de Tomate is a great place for adventurous people. The BBQ fish is splendid at El Charo. They take you in the back and you choose the fish you like. They will gut it right there (can't be fresher than that!) and cook it in the back on the fire. It is delicious. Bring your own bottle of wine or preferred liqueur and purchase a couple beers. They have soft beverages and beer. Great place to share with friends!... and stop by the Crocodile swamp on your way.. in their natural habitat... that's also a site!
We love it,
mike, ray, sal & andrea

Why visit Boca de Tomatlan south of Puerto Vallarta Jalisco Mexico
Boca de Tomatlan is a fishing village 17 kilometers south of Puerto Vallarta (about 15-20 minutes by car, 20-25 minutes by bus). It offers a very nice beach, good rustic restaurants, several activities and a starting point to visit the many beaches south of the bay. Boca de Tomatlán is the last town and beach before the road heads inland on its route to the areas of Cabo Corrientes to the south and Barra de Navidad. The immediate towns to the south are Las Juntas and Los Veranos and El Tuito which is 29 km from Boca (the botanical garden is between Las Juntas and El Tuito).
Among the nearby activities that you can enjoy are the Botanical Garden of Puerto Vallarta with one of the best restaurants in the bay: Hacienda de Oro. Walk to Playa Colomitos through the jungle. Parasailing, walks to nearby beaches, by land for adventurers to Las Animas, for others by boat (water taxi / panga) to Colomitos, Quimixto, Majahuitas, Yelapa, Chimo, Pizota and others. Visit, snorkel, dive and SUP (Stand-up Paddle) to Los Arcos. There are palapas with small rustic restaurants at the edge of the beach that open from 10 in the morning until, more or less, at 6:00 pm, where you can enjoy a cold beer and a tasty fish or seafood dish.
It is on the way to the Botanical Gardens of Vallarta, just 5 kilometers beyond the town of Mismaloya, and is the most popular embarkation and arrival bay for water taxis that take locals and visitors to the beautiful and isolated beaches of the southern part of the city. Bay of Banderas, beaches like Colomitos, Las Animas, Quimixto, Majahuitas and Yelapa. Exit schedules of the pangas here.
(Boca de Tomatlan should not be confused with Boca de Tomates, which is north of the PV Airport).
Boca de Tomatlán empties into the Horcones River, which also passes through the grounds of the Botanical Garden. At present, thanks to the Boca de Tomatlan boardwalk and the rocky edge that was established at the end of the river, the course is much better controlled and the boatmen and fishermen have a better space to leave their boats in shelter. The beach itself is also very popular and the waters of the bay are extremely quiet (not for nothing is used as a port of departure), so if you are a fan of marine swimming, this is the place to visit, we just recommend that you keep away from the area of the pangas.
You can get to Boca de Tomatlan by car, water taxi, taxi or bus. Water taxis (pangas) can be obtained in the Marina or the pier of Playa Los Muertos. The local buses that go to Boca leave every day from early around 6:30 AM and at regular intervals until around 11:00 PM, at the corner of Basilio Badillo and Constitución in Viejo Vallarta (Romantic Zone), the same place and the same buses that go to Mismaloya.
Boca is an authentic fishing village, 10 miles south of the Plaza de Armas of Puerto Vallarta, where the Horcones River empties into a beautiful emerald green bay, surrounded by jungle-covered hills. Enjoy its beaches of fine and clear sand, the gentle waves of the ocean, good food and friendly people.

International Coastal Cleanup Day - Beach Cleanup in Puerto Vallarta, Boca de Tomates
As a part of our commitment to the environment and sustainability, our Journey Mexico Puerto Vallarta office participated in this year's International Coastal Cleanup Day!
Our staff members and their families gathered at Playa Boca de Tomates and together with the city hall's Department of Ecology, Biologist Maria Valencia, our efforts covered two kilometers of shore, filling seven large black trash bags with litter and debris!
Playa Boca de Tomates is a beach located at the northern end of Puerto Vallarta and is an important wildlife refuge area. Mostly known by locals and a few adventurous tourists, the beach is also home to many sea turtles from June through October. A wild, natural setting within Vallarta's beautiful Bay of Banderas, we hope our efforts help keep this environment clean.
