【Botchan train】 Matsuyama Ehime Japan
Botchan train
The Botchan Ressha is a diesel-powered replica of a small-gauge steam locomotive installed in the city of Matsuyama, Ehime, Japan in 1888 as the original Iyo Railway.
Not only was it the first railway in Shikoku but it was also the third private railway in Japan.
The reconstructed locomotives are now a tourist attraction, alternating with electric trams on two of the Iyo Railway's city lines.

Visitors coming to the World Famous Dogo Onsen Hot Springs in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture will probably be using the Dogo Onsen Station, a tourist attraction in itself!!
Functioning as the terminal station to three tram lines, the station gives its visitors the feeling as though they have arrived to the Meiji Period. With the stations architecture reflecting the Meiji Period, it seem natural a steam locomotive, “Botchan” train, is still in use at this station.
At the station front visitors can find the clock-tower as well as a free hot springs foot bath. The Dogo Shopping Arcade is nearby as well for visitors to shop and enjoy the local cuisine.
Built in 1895, Dogo Onsen Station is a nice representation of Meiji Period architecture. It serves as the terminal station to three tram lines. A Botchan steam locomotive is often exhibited in front of it.

Takamatsu, Matsuyama to Hiroshima - Japan Road Trip Day 2 (July 2018) - Adventure Vlog #11 (Ep. 18)
Hey guys,
こんにちは
On our second day we woke up early and went to Ritsurin Park, a very beautiful Japanese Park! We met a nice volunteer guide, did a tea ceremony and had an awesome view.
2日目は、まずは早起きをして高松の観光スポット「栗林公園」に行きました。写真で見ていた以上に綺麗な日本庭園でした。ボランティアガイドさんに案内してもらいながら、茶室でお茶を飲んだりとても楽しめました!
After that we took the highway bus all the way to Matsuyama, where we visited the Saka no Ue no Kumo museum. We saw the Bocchan Train, Dougo Onsen and lots more.
その後は、松山へバスで移動し、坂の上の雲美術館をはじめ、五色そうめんを食べ、道後温泉まで行きました。小説坊っちゃんに出てくる町を坊っちゃんエクスプレスに乗りながら実感できて最高でした。
For the end of the day we used a Ferry to get to Hiroshima and eat Okonomiyaki with one of our friends from Thailand! It was sooo gooood!
旅の最後は、高速船に乗って広島へ移動です。松山港から広島港まで焼く1時間で移動できました。広島では、ジョナサンの元同僚の佐藤さん、岡本さんカップルに案内してもらって美味しい美味しい広島焼を頂きました。
Cheers,
Hako & Jonathan

BOTCHAN RESSHA
I SHOT THIS MOVIE of the diesel-powered, life-size replica of the 1888 BOTCHAN RESSHA (坊っちゃん列車) railway train in Matsuyama, Ehime, Japan in July 2018.
The original train was depicted in Natsume Sōseki's 1906 novel, Botchan: 'I found the train station soon enough and bought myself a ticket. When I got on the train, it looked as dinky as a matchbox. It had hardly started to get rolling when it was already time to get off; the whole ride couldn't have taken more than five minutes. No wonder the ticket was so cheap, I thought — only three sen!'
On October 12, 2001, a diesel-powered replica was introduced to Matsuyama by tram company, Iyotetsu. Currently, the Botchan Ressha runs on two of the Iyotetsu city tram lines: ten round trips daily on the Jonan line ( from Dogo to Matsuyama City Station - featured in this video ) and four round trips daily on the Hanazono line between JR Matsuyama Station and Dogo station, stopping at Komachi.
