Australian by Degree - Viengsam Indavong, Laos
In Laos there is no word for Autism and when Viengsam Indavong’s son was diagnosed with it, she started a life-changing journey to ensure that children like her son got the chance of a good education.
From the moment she realized her son was Autistic, Viengsam's life changed. She went from being a high-flying executive to a woman passionate about making sure her son got all the opportunities other children his age had, especially an education.
Together with other parents facing the same challenge, her passion and motivation drove her to found the Lao Autism Association. The first of its kind in Laos, today this Association is helping scores of children to get an education. At the Association children learn and play and they are also helped to prepare for and attend mainstream schools.
Viengsam says that she and the other parents used all their passion and love to set-up the Association, but they need more knowledge to shape the institution so that it can provide even better support for children with Autism in Laos. In pursuit of this knowledge, we meet Veingsam at Flinders University where she is studying a Masters in Disability Policy and Management.
The experience has been eye-opening for Viengsam and her son. She is now preparing to take back to Laos what she has learned and share this with other parents.

ORCWA Toodyay 2016
The third round of the ORCWA series was a huge success and a whole lotta fun! With four rounds of racing and 3-4 laps (depending on class) it was well worth the effort. Toodyay was a beautiful property that the ever kind John and Sally allowed the club access to! The track was quite tight and hard to make passes on so the start and line selection was critical! Not to mention a awesome little rock garden which had many spectators entertained!

Timelapse: Boddington Fire
Since 31st January 2015 there has been an out of control fire burning in Boddington.
Today on the 04/02/2015 since the air was fairly ash free I decided to set my camera up and do a timelapse of the smoke from the fire. I started the timelapse at 1.58pm, I set it to take a picture every 3 seconds for 1 hour and 45 minutes. From this I quickly edited a short timelapse video which shows how the wind is currently working in our favour by pushing the fire back onto itself. Today has been the first day where the sky is clear of smoke since the fire started. The thumbnail & photo at the end is a photo I took at 7pm yesterday (03/02/2015)
Please remember in emergency situations to ONLY listen to official warnings and advice. PLEASE DO NOT create more chaos by giving misleading or false information.
Our DFES site is doing a fantastic job of keeping everyone updated. Our firefighters are doing an amazing job of combating the fire and I hope they get reprieve soon.
For more information on this fire please consult the DFES website

WENTWORTH FALLS - BUSHWALK // Blue Mountains
Wentworth Falls is one of the most beautiful towns within the Blue Mountains offering possibly the most spectacular bushwalks and views. Originally called ‘Weatherboard’ after the ‘Weatherboard Hut’ built in 1814, one year later the town was named ‘Jamison’s Valley’ by Governor Macquarie. In July 1867 the historic first railway journey in the Blue Mountains left Penrith station and travelled through to Weatherboard Station where the train terminated. It wasn’t until 1879 that the name was changed to Wentworth Falls in honour of William Charles Wentworth, one of the three famous explorers. When travelling from Bullaburra to Wentworth Falls you ascend Boddington Hill.
