This is one of the more popular hikes in the Palmer area, and is a must do! You can see farmland, mountains, a river valley, and a glacier.

Hiking the Butte - Butte Alaska

Drone over Bodenburg Butte Take 2
My daughters second edited video. We are just having fun with the editing software. It was a beautiful day to climb the Butte. What a beautiful state we live in, we are truly blessed. Not quite enough wind to keep the mosquitoes off us but still fun.

Colony Days 3 Parade in Palmer Alaska
The end of the parade. They had a lot of tents and vendors and an old tractor pull. One Farmall was turbocharged, did not help much though.
We enjoyed our day at the Palmer Colony Days 2019.
Alaska Winter Vacation VLOG (Byron Glacier, Snowmobiling, Alyeska, Talkeetna, Bodenburg Butte)
Our Alaska Winter Vacation VLOG (Byron Glacier, Snowmobiling, Talkeetna, Bodenburg Butte, Denali, Chugach Mountains). We did a lot on our Alaska Vacation and we visited Byron Glacier, Snowmobiling, Talkeetna, Bodenburg Butte, Denali, Chugach Mountains). We went through a snowstorm on our way to Byron Glacier, which the road to it was closed, but we parked and went back anyhow. It was super windy at Byron Glacier and a snowstorm. So we only got one mile back. Below is what we did!
Day 1:
- Flew Alaska Airlines into Anchorage, Alaska. Arrived in Wasilla at 3AM.
- Hiked the Bodenburg Butte Trail. Super icy, but worth it!
- Hit the Carr's grocery store for supplies for the week
Day 2:
- Went to Talkeetna and viewed Denali. Very cloudy though.
- Ate at Denali Brew Pub. Had Reindeer Meatloaf!
- Hiked the Palmer Hay Flats
Day 3: Drove to Byron Glacier, which the road was closed. But we parked and went back a mile anyhow. It was a snowstorm, very windy and snowy as you could see. Very bad audio due to the wind and weather conditions.
Day 4:
- Drove to Girdwood and snowmobiled through Glacier City Snowmobile Tours. Very much worth the money. We had signed up for a glacier tour, but it was cancelled due to weather. So we did the scenic tour and it was a blast, We had an awesome guide.
- Checked into Alyeska Resort
Day 5:
- Did a few hours of snowshoeing around Alyeska Resort
- Went to Seven Glacier Restaurant. Which was AMAZING!
Day 6:
- Flew out of Anchorage at 3PM, arrived back in Baltimore at 10AM next day.

Eklutna Tailrace Palmer,Alaska
The water in this river was so beautiful. Eklutna Tailrace in Palmer,Alaska
Alaska '35
In 1935, scientist and filmmaker William O. Field documented the work of newly arriving Matanuska Valley Colony farmers in Alaska. These farmers and their families had relocated from the Midwest of the United States to the Matanuska Valley/Palmer area of Alaska as part of a New Deal resettlement plan. The colony was settled by about 200 families seeking relief from the hardships of the Great Depression. Field's film contains scenes of early Alaska Railroad steam engines at work, farmers and their families at work and play, colonists building and moving into houses, and farm machinery ranging from horse drawn wagons to Caterpillar tractors and threshing machines. (B&W/Silent/35mm film).
In 2016, this film was preserved through funding from the National Film Preservation Foundation (NFPF). Reflex Technologies of Burbank, California, scanned the film and created digital DPX files, which were then output to new 35mm dupe negative and answer print films by Video & Film Solutions of Rockville, Maryland. The original safety print film, new dupe negative and answer print films, and digital files are all being preserved by the Alaska Film Archives at University of Alaska Fairbanks.
This sequence contains excerpts from AAF-21002 from the William O. Field Papers collection held by the Alaska Film Archives, a unit of the Alaska and Polar Regions Collections & Archives Department in the Elmer E. Rasmuson Library, University of Alaska Fairbanks. The Alaska Film Archives is supported by Rasmuson Rare Books Endowment. For more information please contact the Alaska Film Archives.
Exploring THE UNDERGROUND of Palmer, Alaska
It's cool to explore things you didn't even know existed before. Like today...I got to explore the Palmer Underground.
For those that don't know - Palmer is a city in Alaska, about 45 minutes north of Anchorage, and it's filled with a super rich history that we were able to explore.
We were in places that aren't open to the public, and Kelly from Alaska Picker, was an amazing tour guide giving us amazing back stories for everything - that if you want to hear - you'll have to check out the next time he puts the event on!
Thanks to Kelly at Alaska Picker for the invite! Go check out Alaska Picker for all of your vintage or antique needs...or honestly...if you're looking to kill some time on an afternoon - his store is amazing to just walk through. He's got some amazing pieces in there with an amazing back story.
