Boggo Road Gaol - Brisbane, Australia (Daylight)
Boggo Road Gaol was a notorious and heritage-listed, Australian prison located in Dutton Park, an inner southern suburb of Brisbane, Australia. The site is the only surviving intact gaol in Queensland that reflects penological principles of the 19th century. For many years it was Queensland's main prison.
The first cell block opened on 2 July 1883, and over the years many other buildings came and went on the site. In 1903 a prison was built to hold female prisoners. This later became known as the No.2 Division, and is now the only prison building still standing. The 'No.1 Division' built in 1883 was the scene of 42 hangings, including the hanging of Ernest Austin in 1913—the last execution in Queensland. A new prison was built around the perimeter of No.1 prison during the 1960s and No.1 prison was demolished. No. 2 Division was closed in 1989. No. 1 division was closed in 1992 and was demolished in 1996 (a small section of what was C5 and guard tower still remain). A modern (by 1960's standards) prison for women operated adjacent to this site until 2000 and was demolished in 2006.

Boggo Road Gaol, one of the most notorious prisons in Australian history, is synonymous with rooftop riots, hunger strikes, protests and escapes. “Boggo” held many infamous inmates, including the Whiskey Au Go Go firebombers – John Andrew Stuart and James Richard Finch as well as the “Houdini of Boggo Road” Slim Halliday – who escaped twice. The remaining section of Boggo Road Gaol, Number Two Division, is just as it was when it closed. To learn more about The Gaol’s history, click here. 2014 marks 25 years since the closure of infamous Number Two Division following prisoner protests and the recommendations of the Kennedy Report. Boggo Road officially closed in 1992 – though the Brisbane Women’s Correctional Centre operated until 2002. From 25th September Boggo Road will be marking quarter of a century with a month of new tours and experiences – including the opening of Boggo Books at the Gaol. Butt loads of EVP's that progress in intensity as the night wears on. Someone experiences a Spiritual Attachment and my butt gets an unexpected attack too! All team members receive awesome responses from spirits with a hell of a lot of attitude. You'll also hear some admissions from them too. There are some 'Easter Eggs,' so to speak, still left in the video to keep an eye out for. I couldn't ascertain whether they were paranormal or not, so I didn't point them out. There is a light anomaly at one stage, but it was an insect, so that's not one of them. There is also a few extra EVP's not captioned. Happy ghost researching!! XD

Weekly segment from BTQ7 Channel 7 Brisbane. Using archive footage looking at the history of Brisbane's Boggo Road Jail, located in the suburb Dutton Park.
The jail has the honour of being the site of the only officially recorded government report of a ghost sighting, anywhere in the world.
The story goes that guards saw a man climbing over the wall in an apparent escape attempt. Shots were fired at the escapee. But when the guards arrived at the scene on the outside of the wall, no one was found. The height of the fall from the wall, would have resulted in numerous fractures. Making it unlikely they could continue in a hurry. When a head count was done of the prisoners, none were found to be missing.

Boggo Road Gaol Flythrough
The advance of 3D scanning technology has made it possible to capture a vast amount of highly accurate coloured point cloud data in a short time. This makes it feasible to thoroughly record heritage sites and objects such as building complexes, both exterior and interior and surrounds. The challenge is to reproduce this scan data in a form that can be easily accessed by people without requiring complicated software. For this project we developed an alternative workflow that uses coloured point cloud data to generate textured meshes which are assembled in Unity to create an authentic immersive experience.

All content was created from coloured point cloud scan data, photographs and sound recordings collected over two rainy days at the Boggo Road Gaol using a Leica P-16 ScanStation and a Zeb1 handheld scanner. A total number of 199,772,483 points of coloured scan data were captured across 35 scan locations. Programs used: Leica Cyclone, Autodesk Recap, Autodesk Revit, Meshlab, Blender, CloudCompare and Unity. Many thanks to the University of Queensland and Kelly Greenop for the use of the 3D scanning technology!
