Bogota Colombia: City Tour. Two friends who live in bogota colombia offer to take me on a tour of the city of bogota colombia on a beautiful sunday. This is the second part of the tour, and the first half can be seen in my previous video. Bogota Colombia is a massive city, the capital of colombia and the largest population in colombia. The size of bogota colombia can certainly be felt when one is walking around the city. Also discussed is the Transmilenio, the main form of public transportation in Bogota Colombia. The transmilenio is a system of buses that connects all of the major areas of bogota colombia. I discuss how even after weeks in bogota, I am still intimidated by the large system. Bogota - City and Bus Rapid Transit 2010
I went to Cali and Bogota in 2019
The system implemented to fulfill the vision of Mayor Enrique Penalosa. This huge BRT system was one of the earliest big systems, with two trunk lines and many branches, express and local lanes, bi-articulated buses and dozens or route combinations and stopping patterns. I recommend that anyone with an interest in modern BRT to go there and check it out. Shot with the Panasonic Lumix TZ5 in 720p.

Trip Bogota airport to La Candelaria at downtown, low cost transport by Bus
I hope this video help you plan your next trip to Bogota, Colombia South America, because it shows you how to get a low cost transport from the Bogota airport to La Candelaria neighborhood, which have the most tourist attractions and things to do in Bogota along with many hostel and hotels of the city.
This guide works if the things to do in your trip includes staying at a hotel at La Candelaria or if you only have a long layover at Bogota, can happens with Avianca's Airlines flights, in which case what to do depends of the available time, one option is go to a near mall, Gran Estacion, or with more time go all the way to downtown and have a better taste of Bogota.
If you are in a party of several people think about the option of take a taxi cab from the airport, is cheap compared to other cities, that transport will cost to you like U$10-12 USD to the old city, La Candelaria area.
What I don't recommend is to rent a car, the traffic here is hard sometimes, the car rental rates are high plus high gas (petrol) prices, but, if you need you'll find car rentals counters inside the airport building.
So, THE GUIDE: when you clear immigration and customs you'll be at the beginning of the video right at entrance number five, get out of the building and you'll see the airport taxis and the representatives of hotel's shuttle buses, turn to your left and walk to the bus stop which is between gates 7 and 8, the bus schedule is like 7-10 minutes frequency and the idea is get a Green Bus with the 16-14 number which is going to the Portal El Dorado, this bus make a few stops before finishing the 2 kms trip to the portal.
Once at the portal buy a card ($3.000 pesos USD $1.5) and put some money on it, each ticket cost like $0.85 USD so do the math, find the ** J6 bus ** going to UNIVERSIDADES Station, this bus make a stop in every station, so enjoy the view.
Going to Gran Estación Mall:
The easiest way for a low cost transport to Gran Estacion mall is taking the M86 bus right where you take the green 16-14 bus, the trick here is that you need to buy the card prior the trip, ask inside the airport building where to buy Tu Llave card for the bus. Or you can take the green bus get the same J6 bus an leave the system at Salitre el Greco station.
If you keep on ride with this J6 bus in 15-25 minutes more you´ll be at Universidades station, this station is connected with Las Aguas station, from las Aguas you can walk anywhere in la Candelaria, avoid this at night, like your hostel or the Plaza de Bolivar square and other tourist attractions and things to do at the old city.
And that's how to go to the Bogota old city or downtown from the airport right after leaving you flight with Delta airlines, Avianca, Spirit, Aeromexico, Copa, etc. Know you know what to do at a low cost.
Enjoy and leave your comments.

Welcome to Colombia
The Integrated Public Transportation System ( is the Bogotá transportation system and has a principal component and a zonal component. To better explain this, the main way of transportation in Bogotá is the TransMilenio.
The TransMilenio ( is a red bus that goes along the main roads of the city carrying people from station to station. It has eleven main routes that allow you to reach any part of the city. This system is a bit confusing especially for foreigners who use it for the first time, this is why an app has been created: TransmiSitp.
In this app you can find a map of all the routes that also calculates the route you need to do according to your location.
Here you can download the TransmiSitp app:
This public transport system in Bogotá also has other buses that run through the city inside the neighborhoods and not on the main roads as the TransMilenio does. These buses are Sitp (You can also find Sitp routes in the TransmiSitp app).
Other forms of transportation in Bogotá are taxis and private services such as Uber, although it is not yet legal in Colombia. The following apps will help you get better around Bogotá.

RIDING IN A BUS IN BOGOTA. TRANSMILENIO
Bogotá is a huge city and should have Metro, but it hasn't. This is a regular trip from north to south which lasted around 2 hours.
Bogotá has around 40 km from south to north, so many people could spend in a Transmilenio more than 4 hours per day going to work.
In this channel you will find some answers about Colombia.
