Bojnice Spa - Slovakia
The spa along with the Castle of Bojnice were once owned by the magnate Matúš Čák Trenčiansky, the families of Korvín, Thurzo, and Pálffy. It was precisely the Pálffy family who invested efforts in establishing and promoting the local spa. In the 1930s, the shoe manufacturer Ján Baťa, perhaps known in the whole world, owned Bojnice.
The spa also has one of the oldest and most beautiful spa parks in Slovakia. Hot springs are applied in therapy of nervous disorders and those of locomotion apparatus.
In 1959 Bojnice obtained the statute of a spa town. Nine mineral hot springs with temperature 28-52° C are exploited while there are seven hyperthermal and isothermal pools available. Hydrotherapeutic procedures, electrotherapy, acupuncture, oxygen therapy, stays in salt cave are the methods currently offered.

Most beautiful castle in Slovakia
Slovakia has some of the most beautiful places in the world and being off the beaten path it is a very budget-friendly location at the same time. In this free travel guide I give you tips on how to visit Slovakia’s most beautiful castle in Bojnice. It looks like right out of a Disney movie.
Best time to visit
Slovakia is cold in winter so the main seasons when people are visiting is summer, spring and autumn. Bojnice is a destination that is mainly visited by Slovak tourists so prices for accommodation and food are low.
How to get there
We came from Austria so we first went to Bratislava.
If you are going by car you can first go to Trenčín and immediately before entering the city turn right and follow the road through the mountains until Bojnice.
If you are going with public transport your first option is to take the fast train which goes to the high Tatras and stops in Trenčín as well. There you have to change to a bus that goes to Prievidza. From there you can take another bus to the nearby town of Bojnice (or walk ca. 30 minutes).
Or you take a slower train from Bratislava that goes to Prievidza directly (second option).
Accommodation
Bojnice is a small city. There is a big alley for pedestrians (Hurbanovo námestie) with some restaurants eventually leading to the castle park.
Downstairs from this area there are many weekend houses with gardens. This is where we stayed.
We stayed in Penzión Kastelán. This accomodation was a very good value. I can highly recommend it!
Eat
We were eating at Bojnická reštaurácia. They had a lunch menue for a very reasonable price (around 5 Euros including water and soup).
The waiter (who was very friendly) could not translate the bread-like side dish but it is the same kind of bread that is used to make dumplings (“Knödel” in german).
They had an excellent Greek salad (vegetarian option).
Next to the castle there are many shops where you can buy oblates with various tastes. This is very typical and makes for a very good gift.
Top 5 things to do in Bojnice
1. Visit the castle and park
The main attraction is the castle of course.
Surrounding it is a very nice park. Especially in autumn the colors of the trees are amazing.
The castle grounds can be visited only with a guided tour in Slovak. But you receive a small booklet in your language. Note: You have to pay extra if you want to take pictures and even more if you want to make a video.
It is definitely worth to go inside.
2. See the falcon show
Right next to the castle entrance there is an area to see falcons. Unfortunately this area was closed when we visited (because of winter). But if it is open it is something really interesting.
3. Bojnice Zoo
The entrance to the zoo is also near the castle entrance.
It stretches up the hill and if you are visiting with children this is a must do.
4. Bojnice Spa (Kupele Bojnice / LD Mier) and public swimming pool
Bojnice has a very nice spa with some indoor pools and one outdoor pool. It is a little bit away from the center but you can walk there.
There is a nice footpath that starts behind the parking lot (left side behind the castle).
To go there you first go through the castle park passing by the public outdoor swimming pool.
5. Walk to treetop footpath/viewpoint (Vyhliadková veža)
There is an amazing lookout tower on top of the hill behind the castle. Entry was 8 Euros (2018).
We went there going straight up the hill behind the castle (passing by the falconry area and then going little bit right following the fence of the zoo later).
This path is a little bit rough sometimes but more or less ok with normal shoes. Be aware of mountain bikes! Not recommended for going down.
There is actually a nice footpath that we used for going down (it starts near the Spa but you don’t have to go all the way there).
The treetop footpath features a nice slide. Unfortunately it was not in operation because they need someone to supervise it but there were just 2 people at the cash desk (not enough visitors I guess in November).
But there is a nice tunnel made of ropes that is a lot of fun:
Downstairs from the treetop path there are some mushroom houses you can visit and go inside. This is mainly for children but it is very funny anyways.
When we went down we visited a viewpoint from where you can see the castle in the distance.
Conclusion
Bojnice castle is one of the most beautiful castles in the world and the most beautiful castle of Slovakia. It looks like right out of a Disney movie.

Penzión Termal sa nachádza v malom kúpeľnom mestečku Bojnice v priamom susedstve bojnických kúpeľov s možnosťou využitia mnohých relaxačných a kúpeľných služieb. Ubytovanie poskytujeme v Bojniciach od roku 2007 pričom v roku 2015 prešiel kompletnou rekonštrukciou.
Penzión pozostáva zo 9 dvojlôžkových izieb, 7 dvojlôžkových izieb s možnosťou prístelky, 4 apartmánov a 1 dvojlôžkovej bezbariérovej izby s príslušným vybavením. Celková kapacita penziónu je 46 osôb bez prístelok. Všetky izby sú vybavené TV, mini barom, free wifi, samostatnou kúpeľňou so sprchovacím kútom, WC. Apartmány pozostávajú zo samostatnej spálne, obývacej izby a kúpeľne so sprchovacím kútom, v prípade apartmánu De luxe je kúpeľňa vybavená vaňou. V ubytovacej časti sa nachádza aj spoločenská miestnosť, ktorú môžu hostia kedykoľvek využiť. V penzióne sa nachádza aj raňajková miestnosť, v ktorej sa podávajú raňajky pre našich ubytovaných hostí formou švédskych stolov. Miestnosť je využívaná aj na rôzne semináre a školenia do maximálne 30 osôb. Táto miestnosť je vybavená klimatizáciu a data projektorom.
Penzión má vlastnú reštauráciu,ktorá je otvorená počas celého dňa. K dispozícií pre našich hostí sú aj dve parkoviská a vlastný park s altánkami a jazierkom.

Termal pension is located in a small bath town Bojnice in a direct neighbourhood of Bojnice spa and with a possibility to use various relaxing and spa services. Accommodation in Bojnice has been provided since 2007, while there was a complete reconstruction of our pension in 2015.
The pension includes 9 double-bed rooms, 7 double-bed rooms with possibility of an extra bed, 4 apartments and 1 double-bed barrier-free room with applicable facilities. Total capacity of pension represents 46 persons without extra beds. All rooms are equipped with TV, mini bar, free Wi-Fi, en suite bathroom with shower cabin, WC. Apartments consist of independent bedroom, living room and bathroom with shower cabin, De luxe apartment has bathroom equipped with a bath.
Accommodation part of the pension includes social room which can be used by our guests anytime. Pension also includes breakfast room where breakfast is served for our accommodated guests in form of buffet meals. The room is used for various seminars and training for maximum of 30 persons. This room is equipped with air conditions and data projector.
The pension has its own restaurant which is open during the whole day. There are two parking lots and own park with summer houses and lake available for our guests.
Vyhliadková Veža BOJNICE Frenkie - urbex
Frenkie - urbex Nad mestom Bojnice vyrástla unikátna vyhliadková veža s prevýšením asi 30 metrov. Ide o pomerne náročnú technickú stavbu, ktorá nemá na Slovensku obdoby. Vyhliadková veža v Bojniciach sa inšpirovala podobnou vežou nachádzajúcou sa na Morave.
Z vyhliadky sa Vám naskytne pôsobivý výhľad na okolitú krajinu, Bojnický zámok a jeho okolie i na Prievidzu, ktorá nie je bežne vidieť z menšej výšky. Súčasťou stavby je i tobogan, ktorým sa odvážni návštevníci môžu spustiť z vrcholu veže nadol.
Vyhliadková veža sa nachádza v zalesnenej časti, západne od Bojnického zámku. Leží neďaleko Bojnickej kalvárie a kaplnky sv. Vendelína v lese. Do lesa vedie spevnená cesta vhodná bicykle alebo kočíky a vedú sem značené turistické trasy z Bojníc aj od Bojnických kúpeľov. V budúcnosti sa plánuje dokonca lanovka od termálneho kúpaliska Čajka.

Above the town of Bojnice there was a unique viewing tower with an elevation of about 30 meters. This is a rather demanding technical structure, which is not comparable in Slovakia. The viewing tower in Bojnice was inspired by a similar tower located in Moravia.
From your perspective you will have an impressive view of the surrounding countryside, the Bojnice Castle and its surroundings, as well as Prievidza, which is not usually seen from a smaller height. The building also features a water slide that brave visitors can run from the top of the tower down.
The viewing tower is located in a forested area, west of the Bojnice Castle. It is close to the Bojnice Calvary and the chapel of St. Vendelin in the woods. In the forest there are suitable bikes or chariots and there are marked tourist routes from Bojnice and Bojnice Spa. In the future, even a cable car from the thermal swimming pool of Čajka is planned.#veža#bojnice#výlet

Bojnice zatiaľ bez TIK- u
Turisticko informačná kancelária v Bojniciach tento rok ešte nefunguje. Letná sezóna klope na dvere a mesto hľadá riešenie na jej opätovné otvorenie. Tomuto problému venovali poslanci veľkú časť rokovania mimoriadneho mestského zastupiteľstva, ktoré bolo 10. apríla.

National Zoological Garden Bojnice is the oldest and the most visited zoological garden in Slovakia. It was opened for the public on 1stApril 1955. It covers an area of 41 hectares; more than one half of that is taken by animal enclosures. The zoo is located in a recreation environment of the spa town of Bojnice.
In addition, zoo manage the national rescue center for confiscated and seized animals. Specialised employees actively cooperate with CITES and state institutions involved in nature protection. Furthermore provide permanent care for handicapped animals within our rehabilitation station. The same applies for injured rare animals taken from the nature and; at last, but not at least, offers visitors a great opportunity to relax.
Zoo Animals
The National Zoo Bojnice presents its unique collection of animals from the entire world, consisting of more than 430 species with the total number of more than 3500 animals. It is the largest collection of animals in Slovakia, while approximately 280 species from this collection are unique in Slovakia, e.g. African elephants or antelopes bongo. The Zoo also participates in raising of 31 species of animals recorded in EEP (European Endangered Species Program), 39 species of animals recorded in ESB (European Studbooks) and 14 species of animals recorded in ISB (International Studbooks).
