Boka Bartol is one of the dive sites in the Washington Slagbaai National Park. It is recommended as a boat dive but also accessible from the shore. The dive site is not suitable for snorkeling because of the strong currents and it is only recommended for experienced divers. Best entry is on the southern end of the bay where you can see the yellow mooring buoy anchored in about 10m/33ft of water.
Once in the water, you will see a combination of sandy channels and coral ridges up to 9m/30ft, beyond that the bottom is mainly sandy. In about 8 minutes you will reach the drop-off at 17m/56ft and slowly descend to a maximum depth of 27m/89ft.
The current generally moves from south to north. Look in the sand to find Peacock Flounders, Caribbean Stingrays and Hermit Crabs but don’t forget to look in the blue where turtles, Eagle Rays and Barracudas are often seen.
It is important to note that anyone entering water in the Bonaire National Marine Park is required to pay a nature fee. Please see for all rules and regulations regarding the Bonaire National Marine Park.
