Ein Gedi Beach - Save the Dead Sea חוף עין גדי הנטוש - הצילו את ים המלח
Ein Gedi beach had until recently been a popular spot along the Israeli Dead Sea. In 2015 its facilities were renovated to provide beach access for the disabled. Renovations had not yet been completed when the beach, together with the nearby shop, parking area, gas station and even a part of the main Dead Sea Rift Valley road, were sealed off due to increasing appearances of sinkholes.
Above 4000 sinkholes, some nearly 50 meters wide and others almost 30 meters deep, currently dissect the Dead Sea shore. The sinkholes are caused by the rapid drop of the Dead Sea's water level, which had plunged 26 meters in the last 30 years, and steadily continues at a rate of over 1 meter annually.
The annual deficit of water reaching the Dead Sea, over one billion cubic meters, is caused both by consuming its sources throughout the watershed, and by directly pumping water out of the Dead Sea for industrial purposes.
This clip provides us with a glimpse into the abandoned beach. Footage was taken on 1.1.2016, a winter day in the area.
SAVE THE DEAD SEA!

Dead Sea floating- trip to Ein Bokek
Dead Sea floating.
The Dead Sea is a must-see destination for your bucket list.
Breathtaking desert scenery, surrounding mountains, unforgettable sunsets, and of course the famous, not-to-be-missed activity – floating on the Dead Sea.
The Dead Sea is the lowest point on Earth, and also one of the saltiest. The unique climate and particularly high concentrations of salt allow people to float easily on the Dead Sea, due to the natural buoyancy of the water.
Because of its many health benefits, the Dead Sea is renowned as a healing and rehabilitative site.
In addition, the Dead Sea is a well-developed and colorful tourist and leisure destination. In the area, you'll find both exclusive hotels and rustic accommodation, numerous walking and hiking trails, rivers and hot springs to enjoy all day long.
If you feel like a relaxing, enjoyable vacation, spectacular one-of-a-kind scenery, health-giving elements, and a wide variety of amazing attractions at the Dead Sea and surrounding region, visit deadsea.com. It has all the information, tips and recommendations you'll need for your visit.

The drive from Sea level to the lowest point on Earth. The Dead Sea. Ein Bokek.
The Dead Sea (Hebrew: יָם הַמֶּלַח About this sound Yam ha-Melah lit. Salt Sea, Arabic: البحر الميت About this sound Al-Bahr al-Mayyit), is a salt lake bordered by Jordan to the east and Israel and Palestine to the west. Its surface and shores are 430.5 metres (1,412 ft) below sea level,[4][6] Earth's lowest elevation on land. The Dead Sea is 304 m (997 ft) deep, the deepest hypersaline lake in the world. With a salinity of 342 g/kg, or 34.2%, (in 2011), it is 9.6 times as salty as the ocean, and one of the world's saltiest bodies of water. This salinity makes for a harsh environment in which plants and animals cannot flourish, hence its name. The Dead Sea is 50 kilometres (31 mi) long and 15 kilometres (9 mi) wide at its widest point. It lies in the Jordan Rift Valley and its main tributary is the Jordan River.
The Dead Sea has attracted visitors from around the Mediterranean basin for thousands of years. It was one of the world's first health resorts (for Herod the Great), and it has been the supplier of a wide variety of products, from asphalt for Egyptian mummification to potash for fertilizers. People also use the salt and the minerals from the Dead Sea to create cosmetics and herbal sachets.
The Dead Sea water has a density of 1.24 kg/litre, which makes swimming similar to floating.

Dead Sea / Ein Gedi, Israel - Abandoned Beach
August 21st, 2017.
This is the lowest place on earth, about -428m below sea level. Initially, we planned to go to Ein Bokek, where they built a tourist village directly at the Dead Sea, mainly consisting of hotels. But the receptionist at our hostel recommended to walk to the abandoned beach, which was just 15 minutes away. The area is closed, so we had to walk through broken fences and a blockade made of huge rocks. They closed the street and the newly built beach and parking lot some years ago, because the Dead Sea's water level is dramatically sinking and sinkholes are appearing, which made the street too unsafe.
It was an indescribable experience. A post-apocalyptic scenery with dead palm trees, overgrown paths, abandoned buildings, and total silence. There were no birds, no wind, the Dead Sea was eerily calm. Peaceful but kind of frightening. An unreal moment.
