We'll take a scooter ride up to the mountains to explore an abandoned Catholic church and the remnants of a decadent hotel, pay a visit to the Lok Yeay Mao monument, give a nod to the local casino and resort, crash a funeral at a temple, and take in the magnificent (yet hazy) views.

The entrance fee to the park was 2,000 riel or 50 cents USD.
The scooter rental was $5 USD.

Trip to Preah Monivong Bokor National Park - Sampov Pram Temple - Kampot
The plan is Preah Monivong Bokor National Park in Kampot province. So we gotta get up a bit early to be on the top of mountain in the morning. We left Phnom Penh city at 5:30am traveling along National Highway 3 heading to Kampot province. We had breakfast at Krong Kampot and continue to Preah Monivong Bokor National Park. We got there around 9am. On Bokor Mountain, we stopped at Lok Yeay Mao shrine to pay our respect and took some photos. We drive around the mountain reaching & crossing Thansur Bokor Highland resort and got to Sampov Pram temple 5 Ships Temple at around 10am. We stopped at this temple for some more photos. It's cloudy, foggy, windy, and cold up there. We left Sampov Pram temple driving around the mountain and stopped again at the ticket checking booth. The next plan of the day is Kep province as we will have lunch at Crab Market Krong Kep. We reached to Crab Market and had lunch at around 12:30pm. and rushed to Kep beach after that. After a play and swim at Kep beach, we travelled back to Phnom Penh at 4pm and reached home at 7pm as it's raining hard and bad traffic.

Exploring Bokor National Park in Kampot, Cambodia. Monkey's, great views, temples, rock formations and old abandoned churches and buildings... As I rode higher into the park I could feel the weather getting cooler. Some clouds came and went but still had some nice views. If your ever in the area of Kampot, Cambodia I recommend renting a motorbike and riding to Bokor National park.

Bokor National Park is only $0.50 to get in and has perfect roads to ride a scooter all the way up to the top. Once there we explored the abandoned casino/hotel and watched a brilliant sunset. Unfortunately all of my batteries ran out so this is a bit of a shot video.

Bokor National Park | Kampot, Cambodia (WeWillNomad)
The 140,000 hectares that make up this national park are diverse and somewhat intriguing. You will find historic relics (both those abandoned and those being restored), fully functioning temples, incredible views and unspoilt nature, the odd ridiculously large and opulent hotel and casino and plenty of up and coming development, all within Phnom Bokor National Park. There is no entry fee for Phnom Bokor National Park and it is undoubtedly the single best day trip from Kampot. The journey all the way up to the top of Mount Bokor is only about 40km from Kampot’s city centre and takes just over an hour one way. We spent the better part of a day riding around the park and could easily have stayed longer, particularly if you also want to hike. We enjoyed having a scooter and riding the winding roads, as they are better than most in Cambodia! Be cautious, however, if you are not entirely comfortable riding on two wheels. And make sure to wear a helmet!

Bokor National Park Kampot, Cambodia
Preah Monivong National Park known as Bokor National Park located in Teuk Chhou District, Kampot province. It is 1,075-metre high above sea level and about 11 kilometres from kampot town to the foot of the mountain and 32 kilometres from the foot to the cloudy peak. Bokor Mountain was found by the French in 1917 and developed into a resort in 1921. It was the famous summer escape for the French elites and royal family.
Bokor National Park is one of Cambodia's most beautiful and most mystical national parks. It is popular for its cool mountain climate and remains a year-round favourite amongst locals and foreigners. It offers a breathtaking view from the hill top overlooking Cambodian coastal line and many beautiful offshore islands. The park consists of misty tropical jungles sprawling over mountains teeming with wildlife, fresh mountains streams and waterfalls. Bokor National Park is a place for ride, scenery, cool mountain air, adventure, and relaxation.

We went to explore the Lost Places of Bokor National Park in Kampot. Bokor Mountain is full of abandoned buildings and we were trying to find the abandoned casino, but what I found was something else.
Kind of an epiphany about conscious traveling.

Riding our scooter in convoy along the long windy road towards the summit of the Bokor Mountain, the highest peak in the National Park of Cambodia at 1,081 metres above sealevel.
This stunning and beautiful road is so much fun to ride with the scooters, but I can just imagine how much fun a serious biker would have on these roads.

Located south of Cambodia, Kampot is a laid back province filled with expats and friendly locals. Bokor National Park is one of the main attractiosn here. The best way to go around the national park is to rent a scooter and adventure to the many sites it offers and I did just that!

Bokor Mountain Trip 2020 | Preah Monivong Bokor National Park
Preah Monivong Bokor National Park is a national park in southern Cambodia's Kampot Province that was established in 1993 and covers 1,423.17 km2. It is designated as an ASEAN Heritage Park. It is located in the Dâmrei Mountains, forming the southeastern parts of the Cardamom Mountains. Most of the park is about 1,000 meters above sea level and the highest peak is Phnom Bokor at 1,081 meters, also referred to as Bokor Mountain.
History:
The Dâmrei Mountains was formerly a Khmer Rouge controlled area, but in 1993, Preah Monivong National Park was inaugurated along with most other national parks in Cambodia. It is one of only two ASEAN Heritage Parks in the country.
Preah Monivong National Park is well known for the abandoned Bokor Hill Station, a remote settlement build by the French colonialists in 1921. They also built a Catholic church nearby in 1928, a very rare sight in Cambodia. The park is named after King Sisowath Monivong who used to visit the area and eventually died here in 1941. Monivong ordered the construction of a Buddhist temple in the area in 1924.
In recent times the national park has become a popular tourist destination and now includes Thansur Bokor Highland Resort, a large luxury hotel built in 2012.[3] In 2010, a large statue of Lok Yeay Mao was constructed in the area. Lok Yeay Mao is a mythic heroine from Cambodian Buddhism and is said to protect travelers, hunters and fishing men. At 29 meters, it is the tallest Yeay Mao statue in the country.
