Tad Lo waterfalls. Traveling to Bolaven Plateau, Laos.
In the beginning we didn't plan to go to Tad Lo. When we came back from 4000 Islands to Pakse, we thought that the next day we will be able to travel to Vietnam. When we went to Vietnam consulate in Pakse, we realized, that our Vietnam visas will be valid only after six days.
Accidentally we met one Italian traveler, who suggested we should explore Bolaven Plateau. Bolaven Plateau is a region in Southern Laos. It is well known for its waterfalls. Tad Lo waterfalls (Tad Lo, Tad Hang and Tad Soung) are probably the most famous. That was the moment when we decided, that Tad Lo village will be our next destination.

Tad Pha Suam Waterfall - Bolaven Plateau - Laos
Tad Pha Suam Waterfall.
This majestic waterfall, located 33 kilometres north of Pakse in Bachieng District, gets its name from its rectangular room-like shape, as “suam” literally means “room” in Lao. The falls stand about 6 metres high and flow all year round from the Houai Champi River as it descends across the Bolaven Plateau from the north in Salavanh Province. The beauty of this waterfall is mesmerizing and offers a great spot to spend a lazy afternoon and enjoy a picnic or dine at the nearby restaurant of the Uttayan Bachieng Resort. You can also stay here overnight in either the resort’s unique tree-top bungalows or the cultural setting of a family homestay in an on-site ethnic Lavae village.
How to get there: To reach the waterfall, follow Route 23 north turning left at Km21 and following Route 20, heading towards Salavanh Province, another 12 kilometres. Look for signs to Pha Suam on your left.

Tad Xai or Tad Xay Waterfall in Laos
Welcome to Life of Pang!
Tad Xai waterfall is located in the Phou Khao Khouay National park in Laos. The closest village is Hat Khay, before you go off road, into red dirt road... up and down hillsides and small curves. The day we went, it was cloudy but the road was eroding from the previous day's rain. We made it but it was a slow drive. It was beautiful! We were the ONLY people there. I guess people knew it would rain that day so there were no others around.
There were so many bugs, flies, butterflies and other things landing on you that it was a bit uncomfortable at times. But hey, it's the wild! What did you think. Hahaha. It was still nice though.
