Bolton Abbey is the estate within which is located the ruined 12th-century Augustinian Bolton Priory in North Yorkshire.
The monastery was originally founded at Embsay in 1120. Led by a prior, Bolton Abbey was technically a priory, despite its name. It was founded in 1154 by the Augustinian order, on the banks of the River Wharfe. The land at Bolton, as well as other resources, were given to the order by Lady Alice de Romille of Skipton Castle in 1154. In the early 14th century Scottish raiders caused the temporary abandonment of the site and serious structural damage to the priory. The seal of the priory featured the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Child and the phrase sigillum sancte Marie de Bolton.

A Wedding Video from Bolton Abbey Priory
Surrounded by the ruins of the 12th century monastery at Bolton Abbey - the priory church of St. Mary and St. Cuthbert hosted the wedding of Rebekah and Michael.
After the wedding it was off to Barden Bridge for a relaxed photoshoot before onwards to The Devonshire Fell in Burnsall to kick off the festivities with some great speeches and then dancing into the night.
The Most Dangerous Stretch of Water in the World: The Strid at Bolton Abbey, Yorkshire
I know, I know, it's a clickbait title. But I stand by it, because the water is so deceptive, and so pretty, and there's a path that leads straight down to it and that jump looks very, very possible...
The 12th century legend is the Boy of Egremont, immortalised in poetry by the famous William Wordsworth. His The Force of Prayer is about the Strid and the Boy of Egremont, and the full text is here:
Also, I need to make one correction: I say a hundred metres upstream, but that shot's actually about that far downstream. I couldn't fix that in post, but since the river's basically the same for a mile or so in each direction with no significant confluences, it's a small enough slip that I don't think it's too bad. The amount of water is the same!

Bolton Abbey Estate is located in Wharfedale, North Yorkshire. The estate features the ruins of the 12th Century Augustinian Monastery of Bolton Priory. This is one of the churches in England that was destroyed by virtue of the Dissolution of Monasteries under the ruling of King Henry VIII. Nowadays, the estate is a popular area to visit for day trips and has several pathways allowing you to explore other areas such as the Strid, Bolton Priory and the Bolton Abbey village.

Bolton Abbey - in Wharfedale, North Yorkshire, England, takes its name from the ruins of the 12th-century Augustinian monastery now known as Bolton Priory. The priory, closed in the 1539 Dissolution of the Monasteries ordered by King Henry VIII, is in the Yorkshire Dales, next to the village of Bolton Abbey.

The nave of the abbey church was in use as a parish church from about 1170 onwards, and survived the Dissolution of the Monasteries.
Building work was still going on at the abbey when the Dissolution of the Monasteries resulted in the termination of the priory in January 1540. The east end remains in ruins. A tower, begun in 1520, was left half-standing, and its base was later given a bell-turret and converted into an entrance porch. Most of the remaining church is in the Gothic style of architecture, but more work was done in the Victorian era, including windows by August Pugin. It is still a working priory today, holding services on Sundays and religious holidays. (Source: WikiPedia)

The Most Dangerous River in the World
When you think of a deadly river what first comes to mind? White water rapids, sharp, jagged rocks, plummeting waters with a torrent of power, that sums it up right? It’s usually quite easy to spot a dangerous river that one should stay away from. Powerful rapids like this will easily pull you under and may take up to minutes before it spits you back out up to the surface a good deal of distance down the river.
The strid in the English County of North Yorkshire doesn’t look all the threatening but don’t let this death trap fool you. The Strid is a section of the River Wharfe which measures between 30 ft or 9 meters in width to just a few feet or 1 meter in width. This section of the 65 mile or 104 km River Wharfe has been labeled by local authorities as dangerous to enter with signs posted alarming everyone of its risks. This river at first glance is very odd because the water is black, this is due to its extreme depth. If you look at how this river goes from being decently wide to incredibly narrow this is where the danger comes in. All the water has to go somewhere, usually this narrowing will create rapids thus indicating danger to the average person. The strid though is calm with virtually no rapids, in some areas, appearing as a peaceful, calm stream in fact just under the surface is a outburst of water current that moves downwards. Other areas of the Strid have normal rapids you’d expect but even though don’t look all that menacing. As the river narrows becomes deeper almost if the river is turning on it’s side. The force is pushed down instead of up so when someone jumps in, they are essentially sucked straight down and never seen again.
There have been numerous deaths, believed to be in the 100s, in the river but no one really knows how many. It has been stated a newlywed couple took a dip in the river after their wedding, never to be seen again. Some people have claimed to swim in the river on the much calmer portion downstream but no proof has been provided. Currently at this time this river has a reported 100% fatality rate, not one single person who has entered the river in the narrow section has come out alive. The current isn’t the only dangerous element, as you’ve probably noticed the rocks are smooth with sharp changes of direction in them so it’s likely someone would be dragged under and bashed around on the rocks as well. No one knows how deep it is as any piece of equipment ever used to measure the distance to the bottom was carried away with the current. It is believed that there are underwater caves and tunnels which is where anyone who enters gets sucked into. While friends challenge each other to jump the channel, one slip and say goodbye.

A Wedding Video from Bolton Abbey Priory and The Devonshire Fell
An unusual start to the wedding day was Matthew and his friends arriving by tractor at The Bolton Abbey Priory where he was getting married to Hannah, who was having a leisurely time at The Devonshire Fell, getting ready with her bridesmaids.
The wedding took place in the historic priory before the wedding party moved on to The Devonshire Fell to continue the celebrations, ending with a spirited Ceilidh - a great night and I'd like to thank everyone for making me feel welcome and allowing me to film their special day

Andrew & I were left to fend for ourselves, whilst Zoe & Wendy were off sampling the wooly joy that is Yarndale (Skipton); so, we took ourselves off to Bolton Abbey, for a day of photography.
