Part-10 l Bomdila|বমডিলা.Arunachal Pradesh|Tona Gontse Monastery|Tibet
Bomdila is located in the northwestern part of the state of Arunachal Pradesh, in the northeastern region of India. It is set amongst the mighty Himalayas at an altitude of 2,530 m above sea level. The weather in Bomdila is alpine. Summers (April-June) are short and mild, while winters are cold (November-February). It experiences rainfall between July and September.
The origin of Bomdila is lost in time. It was a part of the kingdom of Tibet in medieval times. Local tribal rulers and rulers from Bhutan generally ruled it from time to time. The Ahom rulers of Assam did not interfere with the local tribes except for retaliatory raids into the tribal territory. The British had declared this area of Arunachal Pradesh as off-limits in 1873. The area has remained a cause of disagreement between India and China since India gained independence in 1947. China invaded the area around Bomdila in 1962, but later withdrew its troops from the area.. This small town has a population of less than 10,000 people and is the home of the Monpa, Aka, Miji, Sherdukpen, and Bogun tribes.
Bomdila monastery, one of the most prominent centres of the Lamaistic faith of Mahayana Buddhism
A home to Buddhist Lamas and monks at Bomdila in the west Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh, the Bomdila Gompa or monastery is one of the most prominent centres of the Lamaistic faith of Mahayana Buddhism. A replica of the Tsona Gontse monastery at Tsona in the southern Tibet, the Bomdila monastery(also known as the Gentse Gaden Rabgyel Lling monastery) was set up by the twelfth reincarnate of the Tsona Gontse Rinpoche. The reincarnate who was born in Morshing, west Kameng, had established this monastery in the year 1965 before his death in 1966. However, the Rinpoche, the thirteenth reincarnation, Tsona Gontse Rinponche renovated and enlarged the monastery by including a huge main prayer hall, which was further blessed by His Highness the 14th Holi Dalai Lama in 1997.
The Gompa comprises a prayer hall, used by the Lamas and the monks for peace prayers, a temple of the Buddha and residential quarters for the monks. Besides the prayers and tantrayana practices, the young monks are also taught about the monastic life and tradition and different subjects by the senior Lamas or the monks of the monastery.
The colourful land of Bomdila, which lies amidst the graceful Himalayan ranges at a height of 8500 feet above the sea level, is the headquarter of the western Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh. The small and beautiful land of Bomdila is an attractive destination for the tourists from all across the globe, who come here to get themselves pampered by the mother nature and have a closer look of Indian culture, Buddhist tradition and hospitable locales of the north eastern India. An ideal place for trekking, the land of Bomdila and its culture is under a strong Tibetan cultural and traditional influence, and therefore, also nests many Gompas or monasteries.

Arunachal Pradesh is the largest among the seven states located in the Northeast of India, with an area of 83,743 sq km. It shares its borders with the neighbouring countries of Bhutan in the west, China (Tibet) in the north and northeast, Myanmar in the east and southeast and the Indian states of Assam and Nagaland in the south. The geographic location of the state provides immense opportunities for international trade with South Asian countries such as Myanmar, Bhutan and China.
Tawang is a mountain town in Asia. India considers it to be part of the state of Arunachal Pradesh, while China claims it as part of South Tibet. It’s home to the 17th-century Tawang Monastery, a hilltop structure housing a massive gilded Buddha statue. The War Memorial commemorates soldiers who died in the 1962 Chinese-Indian War. Nearby, tranquil Penga Teng Tso (P. T. Tso) Lake attracts migratory birds in summer.
The Sela Pass is a high-altitude mountain pass located on the border between the Tawang and West Kameng Districts of Arunachal Pradesh state in India.
Bomdila is the headquarters of West Kameng district in the state of Arunachal Pradesh in India. Bomdila is one of the 60 constituencies of the state of Arunachal Pradesh.
Northeast India is the eastern-most region of India. It comprises eight states – the contiguous Seven Sister States, and the Himalayan state of Sikkim.
