Bonaire Island Tour | Royal Caribbean Bonaire | What to do in Bonaire
We did the Best of Bonaire shore excursion with Royal Caribbean and Freedom of the Seas that took us on an island tour.
Highlights include:
- scenic drive to the south side of the island
- Salt Flats
- Historic Homes of the Salt Flat workers (Slave Huts as locally referred to)
- Lac Bay
Our tour guide was very informative and commentated the entire drive. We began the tour with a scenic drive from the cruise terminal and heard about the history of the island including the salt industry. We stopped to see some of the salt flats where the salt continues to be produced to this day. Our next stop was at the historic homes of the salt workers - and a view into slavery on the island to support this industry. We ended our tour at Lac Bay, a spot popular with windsurfers and swimmers for the calm waters, but strong breeze.
Following the tour we were dropped off at the cruise port and then went exploring Kralendijk, Bonaire.

Think pink on this leisurely, commentated drive on the lookout for Bonaire's famous flamingos. Travel through the countryside to the southeast's lush mangrove forests, stopping for a refreshment break at the spectacular bay where you can dip your feet in the turquoise waters. At the salt flats of Pekelmeer (Pink Lake), shrimp-filled pools attract flocks of flamingos. Touch history inside the crude huts that sheltered the 19th century slaves who worked and harvested salt here.

Bonaire Walking Tour off of ship【4K】
This is a walking tour of what to expect when you leave your ship in port at Bonaire.
Bonaire is an island in the Leeward Antilles in the Caribbean Sea. Its capital is Kralendijk, located near the ocean on the lee side of the island. Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao form the ABC islands, located 50 miles)off the coast of Venezuela. Unlike much of the Caribbean region, the ABC islands lie outside Hurricane Alley. The islands have an arid climate that attracts visitors seeking warm, sunny weather all year round. Bonaire is a popular snorkeling and scuba diving destination because of its multiple shore diving sites and easy access to the island's fringing reefs.

This trip to Bonaire was incredible and way too short. Bonaire was by far our favorite island in the southern Caribbean. The undeveloped charm, friendly locals and crystal clear waters teaming with life are irresistible. We stopped on a Bonaire for a day during a cruise on Royal Caribbean's Navigator of the Seas and both agreed we will be back to this Caribbean paradise. The people of Bonaire were welcoming and genuinely friendly at every step and the sell at all costs attitude present in many cruise ports was not present in Bonaire. As soon as we got off the ship, we stopped by what we thought was a timeshare stand for a map but it was actually just a service provided by Bonaire to give information and maps without trying to sell us anything. Amazing! Using the information from the stand, we walked to a free beach to snorkel and swim in some of the most crystalline water we've ever seen. The sea life in Bonaire is second to none with such a wide variety of species right close to the shore, it's clear that Bonaire's aquatic conservation and preservation efforts have paid off. Don't miss this incredible little slice of heaven nestled in the southern Caribbean.

Bonaire Golf Cart Adventure - March 2019
We were on a Royal Caribbean “Navigator of the Seas” cruise that made a stop in Bonaire. Visiting Bonaire was a first for us so we looked for ideas on Cruise Critic. A popular thing to do is to rent a golf cart for the day from Bonaire Cruisers and explore on your own. This sounded good to us so months before cruise time, we made arrangements to rent a 2-passenger golf cart.
So, once the ship was cleared, we walked the short distance to Bonaire Cruisers, signed the usual release forms, gave them some money, received information about driving on the island, and off we went with a map in hand.
There were two scenic loops suggested for us to tour. We decided to tackle the “Southern Loop” which is shorter and goes by some things we wanted to see. Let me say right up front, we DID see a flock of pink flamingos but they were way off in the distance, too far to photograph.
We were told that simply DRIVING the loop would take 1-1/2 hours so, obviously, a few stops along the way could stretch that out to 2-1/2 to 3 hours which is exactly what happened to us.
The longer Northern Loop takes 2-1/2 hours to drive which meant 3-4 hours with some stops. We were pooped and decided to forgo the Northern Loop for next time. So we dropped off the golf cart and headed into town for some lunch and a little in town sightseeing. We had heard about a liquor they make on the island out of cactus so I bought a bottle of the stuff for my son.
As you’ll see in the video, we encountered a lot of wind making for a really bad hair day. At one point there was an ocean spray mixed in with it that made in impossible to see through our glasses. Fortunately, we had a bottle of water with us to clear some of it off our glasses.
The 360 video clips were taken with a GoPro Fusion. Still images were taken with our iPhones.

Jewel of the Seas | Day 6 Vlog | Bonaire | Water Taxi to Klein & Awesome Snorkeling!
Today we are in the next stop of the ABC Islands…Kralendijk, Bonaire! This is day 6 aboard Royal Caribbean’s Jewel of the Seas, and we could not be more in love with this port of call! We took a Caribe water taxi to Klein (which is essentially a small island off the coast of the Bonaire mainland). On Klein we snorkeled down “No Name Beach” and had the most spectacular snorkeling adventure! On the reef we saw a multitude of fish, including more Parrot Fish than we could count! Once back on board had fun on the ship with activities such as trivia and adult karaoke! We had the most beautiful day on Bonaire and we hope you enjoy this video!
