SHINE Appeal 2018/9
We're continuing to raise money for our SHINE appeal to create and sustain free community youth theatres for children between 8 and 16 across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
Generous donations made by audience members mean we were able to run nine community youth theatres in Bulwell, Mansfield, Sherwood, Sneinton, Chilwell, Bramcote, Gedling Netherfield* and *Gedling Newstead* and at the hospital school at the *Queens Medical Centre. Over 120 children, who otherwise would not be able to afford to, now have the opportunity to work together to create theatre, grow in confidence, learn life-enhancing skills and discover their unique voices to tell their own stories.

Allen Tipton Remembered...
To list everything Allen Tipton achieved would require much more space than we have, so below is a brief history of his amazing and magical life.
Born in the West Midlands in 1932, Allen was bitten by the acting and entertaining 'Bug' early, becoming a magician at the age of 9, and joining the Staffs Magical Society at 14.
In 1950 he appeared as a ventriloquist on Hughie Green's 'Opportunity Knocks' after winning the local heats at the Dudley Hippodrome, Worcestershire.
Having studied speech, drama and ballet at the Henwood Academy in Worcestershire, and at the Birmingham School of Speech, Allen went on to graduate in drama, music, history and practical teaching at St. Peter's College, Saltley; part of Birmingham University's Education Department.
Arriving in Nottingham in 1957 he became the first full time specialist in drama in the City's schools. He also pioneered drama and theatre examinations as Chairman of the Drama Panel, and with the CSE board.
He was an actor, director and choreographer for various well known local groups, including the Co-operative Arts Theatre for 42 years, the Nottingham Theatre Club (now the Lacemarket), and the Ravenshead Gilbert & Sullivan Society for 9 years.
Allen also carried out extensive youth theatre work at these theatres and at the Bonington Theatre, the Sheffield Playhouse and the Nottingham Playhouse; where he was Director for 8 years, and one of the founders of the Youth Workshop. He has tutored many adult and youth drama courses all over the country.
Among his former students he numbers: the late Richard Beckinsale, Su Pollard, Sherrie Hewson, Stephen Frears (the film director), Torvill & Dean, Chris Gascoyne (Coronation St. Soldier Soldier etc), Alexander Hanson (National Theatre, Auf Wiedersein Pet, Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals), Theatre & TV actors Paul Slack, Gavin Abbott, Ian Peck, Stuart Wood (Director) These have worked/appeared with the RSC, the National, at various theatres around the country and in The Bill, Dangerfield, Midsomer Murders, Frost, Heartbeat etc. etc.
It was whilst at the Co-operative Arts in 1958 that he met Barbara, the woman that would become his leading lady for the rest of his life. Barbara was an actor, singer and dancer, so for Allen it was a match made in heaven. They later married in 1969.
Nottingham and Nott's Drama Association, made him Hon. V.P in 1998 In recognition of his immense contributions to Amateur Drama, through acting, directing, lecturing, teaching and adjudicating He adjudicated NANDA's Full Length, One Act, and Youth Festivals on a number of occasions and tutored many NANDA Drama Courses from Stage Makeup, Revue, Music Hall, Stage Techniques, Pantomime and General Acting.
In 2001, he and his wife Barbara founded their own company, 'Sunshine Theatre' to produce musicals and plays. Along with their loyal group of actors and musicians they staged numerous productions at the Bonington Theatre and other local venues.
He was an Honorary Life Member and President 8 times of the Nottingham Guild Of Magicians and was made 'Magician Of the Month' by the International President of The International Brotherhood of Magicians in 1980 for his reproduction of Dante the illusionist's 'Sim Sala Bim' full length evening show.
He wrote several major series for 'Abracadabra', the only weekly magazine for magicians in the world. He also scripted, and choreographed routines for some of the country's leading magicians.
In later years Allen was an active member and contributor on many magic forums, these included Talk Magic, Magic Bunny and the Magic Café to name but a few. During this time he helped and advised numerous magicians from around the world with his vast magical and theatrical knowledge.
Embracing modern technology, he tutored younger magicians over the internet and 'Skype' in places as far afield as Portugal, Japan and Canada. His valued help and advice was recognised in 2012 with the forum members naming him Magical Maestro one of the highest accolades they could bestow.

Loretta Brown sings live at the Arnold Carnival in Nottingham earlier this year. The song by Jordon Mills is an original number and loretta is a phenomenal talent, a star to be as you can hear quite clearly. Places to see in ( Arnold - UK )
Places to see in ( Arnold - UK )
Arnold is a market town, unparished area and suburb of the city of Nottingham, in the English ceremonial county of Nottinghamshire. It is situated to the north-east of Nottingham's city boundary, and is in the local government district of Gedling Borough. Since 1968 Arnold has had a market, and the town used to have numerous factories associated with the hosiery industry.
Arnold's town centre is the largest in Gedling Borough (whose headquarters are located in the town) and the most important in the northeastern part of the Greater Nottingham conurbation. Nottinghamshire Police have been headquartered in Arnold since 1979. At the time of the 2011 Census, Arnold had a population of 37,768. Areas within Arnold include Daybrook, Woodthorpe, Redhill and Killisick.
Arnold once had a railway station known as 'Daybrook and Arnold' or simply 'Daybrook railway station'. It was closed along with the rest of the line on 4 April 1960. The station was located on Mansfield Road (A60) on what is now a retail park. There is still evidence of the line in the form of remnants of the embankments on Arnot Hill Park (just behind GO Outdoors).
St. Mary's Church, of the Church of England, is believed to date from 1176. It is located on Church Lane and is a Grade II* listed building. The Grade II* listed Roman Catholic Church of the Good Shepherd's current building on Thackerays Lane was built in 1964, its modern architecture – featuring a detached spire-cum-belfry – winning an award from the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1966.
Arnold town centre has a diverse range of restaurants and bars and a choice of shops including supermarkets such as Asda, Sainsbury's and Iceland as well as small independent businesses. There are Aldi and Lidl supermarkets in Daybrook. 1968 saw the opening of Arnold Market in the town centre. Market days are on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with a flea market being held on Wednesdays.
Arnold Leisure Centre, located on High Street at the heart of the town centre, contains a swimming pool and a theatre—called the Bonington Theatre—which was named after the landscape painter Richard Parkes Bonington. The town's most notable landmark is probably the Home Brewery Company Ltd. building in Daybrook, usually referred to as 'Home Ales' in reference to the Robinson family's Bestwood Home Farm, located on Oxclose Lane.
( Arnold - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Arnold . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Arnold - UK
