Winter in Shenzhen is often like spring: pleasantly warm and sunny. This is a huge, combined bookstore and mall. There are all kinds of shops including a pizza hut. The spaghetti with meatballs was really pretty good today. And when I usually go I get the lasagna which is very, very good. So, yes: you can get decent western food in Shenzhen, China. (and if you want to pop across the border to Hong Kong I don't need to tell you that their are terrific restaurants all over ... it takes about 20 minutes to cross the border from Shenzhen into Hong Kong if you go during the weekdays (not near a holiday) and from about 10am to 3pm ... it's a snap during that window of time.
I regularly read book on software development in Chinese (yes, that's IN Chinese characters). They have a huge section from O'Reilly's publisher. If you need a data-driven products website in Chinese:
