Boonoo Boonoo National Park, Tenterfield region of NSW - Overland solo trip Part 2

Part 2 of 3.....

After leaving Sundown National Park, I skipped across the border into NSW to Tenterfield. Some 20-30kms north on the Mount Lindsay Highway are a number of cool places to check out. I decided I was going to explore Boonoo Boonoo National Park.
I camped at Cypress Pine campground. This place was quite surprising and beautiful. Also a great alternative to the packed beach destinations in the summer months with countless spots to cool off along the river in the many swimming holes and rock pools. Would definitely recommend stopping there and having a look around.

Boonoo Boonoo National Park and Falls

The main feature of the Boonoo Boonoo National Park is the the Boonoo Boonoo Falls (pronounced 'bunna bunoo' - a local Aboriginal term for big rocks) which plummets 210 metres into the rocky ravine. These falls are easily reached from the road via a short walk.

I decided to create this special online video as it would make for too short a DVD.

Leaving Boonoo Boonoo, it was a short drive up the road to Bald Rock National Park. Parts of the Mt Lindsay Highway are unsealed. I came across 3 wrecked cars on the short drive. Crazy. No one inside, all were police aware.
Anyway...
Bald Rock was truely a stunning place. The hikes aren't that challenging. I think it was 3.2km up the back way or 1.5km up the steep rock face.
I recommend heading up late afternoon, my phone had switched itself to NSW time so I thought it was later than what it was. Which meant I was up there for some time. Which was ok by me, as it was stunning views in all direction and seeing the sun change the colours of the landscape and especially the rock itself was worth hanging out all day up there.
Again, the camping fees were $12 per night and $8 vehicle permit.
Bald Rock Camp Grounds had free firewood and toilets and shower huts.
Rocky River Road which runs along the river thru the Condamine Gorge is a brilliant drive. However if your looking for a 4x4 fix, I'd suggest visiting one of the nearby adventure parks.
