???? The Best Scenic Drives in ICELAND - Historic Borgarnes
#virtualdrive #iceland #scenicdrive
Amazing Drive through Historic Borgarnes with Hafnarfjall mountain, the ruins of a large central volcano in Iceland, in the background.
Borgarnes is a town located on a peninsula at the shore of Borgarfjörður in Iceland and is the largest town in the Borgarbyggð municipality with a population of about 3750 residents. It is a main junction in Iceland and the gateway to the Snaefellsnes National Park. Iceland's capital Reykjavik is 69 kilometers from the center of Borgarnes. The second largest bridge in Iceland, the Borgarfjarðarbrú, connects traffic to and from Reykjavik.
Borgarnes was founded in the late nineteenth-century, in a region that served as the setting of Egil's Saga. The town draws its name from Borg á Mýrum, the farm of Egill Skallagrimsson, the saga's poet-hero protagonist. A museum in Borgarnes, the Settlement Center, is devoted to the region's ties to Egill Skallagrimsson.

My Iceland Road Trip | May 2018
In May 2018, I rented a 2WD car (KIA Picanto) and managed to do most of the Route 1 ring road of Iceland in four and a half days. See total route (2004km) at 0:08. Wasn't too hard, and I managed to see and enjoy lots of the must-see sights. It was lots of fun. I put the GoPro on the dashboard and set it to take one photo every 30 seconds. This is the video after compiling all the photos. Below are highlights from the video (because who has 19 minutes to watch a video of a road?) (although... why not? :) ).

Grábrók Craters, Roadtrip to Reykjavík- Iceland PART2
Welcome again to PART 2 of the Reykjavík Road trip.
In this video, “Your adventures through my lens” takes you to;
Grábrók. Its is a crater formed by a fissure eruption approximately three thousand years ago. The fissure that initially opened during that eruption wasn't very long but left behind Grábrók and her two crater sisters that can be seen when on top. Also, from the top the massive lava about seven square kilometers that surfaced in that eruption is visible. It is a sight of geological interest comparable to Lakagígar, the Laki craters in the Icelandic Highland accessible from the Southern Region. The view from the top is not only interesting because of the lava. It is an impressive view over the most beautiful part of the Western Region Borgarfjörður and the tiny but beautiful lake Hreðarvatn, that was formed during that eruption.
As you will see in the video, its a walk to the top which is quite easy (though wasn’t that for me ..hehe..) as the crater is only about 170m high (560 feet). There is a good path up to the top with manmade steps. It is one of the natural sights that are basically on the Ring Road in Iceland and has been popular among Icelanders for decades.
