Bormio leží v horní části údolí Valtellina na řece Adda a je známým lyžařským střediskem, kde jsou pravidelně pořádány závody Světového poháru v alpském lyžování. V letech 1985 a 2005 zde byla uspořádána mistrovství světa v alpském lyžování. Okolo města se nachází řada sjezdovek s celkovou délkou přes 50 km. Nejdelší sjezdovka je dlouhá 6 km. Je zde také 14 lyžařských vleků a řada lyžařských škol.
Do ski areálu patří kromě samotného Bormia na svazích Cima Bianca ještě další menší lyžařská střediska San Colombano a Santa Caterina Valfurva.
Na sjezdovce Pista Stelvio, která je pojmenována po průsmyku Stelvio, jsou pravidelně pořádány závody Světového poháru v alpském lyžování. Jedná se o jednu z nejnáročnějších sjezdovek na světě a v rámci závodů světového poháru o druhou nejdelší sjezdovku po trati Lauberhorn ve švýcarském Wengenu. V sezóně světového poháru 2010/2011 měla sjezdovka na délce 3270 m celkové převýšení 1010 m.

Thermal water and the ski slopes of all degrees of difficulty, to a height of 3000, make it known throughout the world.
The rich history that belongs to this beautiful land, much sought after because important commercial center, was flown by the locals in a strong impressive.
A story that we can rediscover in the Civic Museum of Palazzo de Simoni, nell'altrettanto historical and central Via Roma or soaking in the thermal waters of Bagni Vecchi, described for the time in the first century AD Pliny the Elder in his Natural History, reached following the road that leads to the Stelvio.
But wandering through the streets of the village atmosphere of the past comeback: Kuèrc Square, where once administered justice and holding assemblies of the people is enhanced by the Tower of the Hours, the Church of Saints Gervasio and Protasio with His impressive body of 1697 but are also valuable Stue ancient wooden houses and carved doorways.
The oldest coat of arms of the County of Bormio you can still see the square in Good Counsel on the House Giacomelli-Compagnoni.
Lovers of relaxation can find what they want to Bagni Nuovi, while children can enjoy themselves at the Baths of Bormio.
And after a full day, nothing better than a typical dinner and entertainment is provided by clubs.
Bormio is nestled in the Stelvio National Park, where even in summer capture fascinating excursions or sports.

PEAK TO CREEK Bormio 3000-Bormio | The endless ski run
Every year hundreds of ski lovers join this incredible alpine ski race which takes place in Bormio, Alta Valtellina, Italy.
The course is 8-km long and has a vertical drop of 1,800 meters. The paired up start and the set-up with only 30 gates make this race absolutely unique all over the world.
