Borobudur sunrise, Prambanan Temple and travel in Yogyakarta, Indonesia
Sunrise at Borobudur, a few adventures in Yogyakarta, followed by an afternoon exploring Prambanan Temple in Indonesia.
What an amazing way to spend a few days in Yogyakarta, Indonesia!
❊❊❊❊❊❊❊❊❊❊❊❊❊❊❊❊❊❊❊❊❊❊❊❊❊❊❊
Sunrise at Borobudur is definitely worth setting your alarm for. Borobudur is the world’s largest Buddhist temple, and Indonesia’s most visited tourist attraction. Located on the island of Java, the temple was constructed in the 9th century, before being abandoned in the 14th century as the population converted to Islam. Protected by UNESCO, it was restored in the 1970s and later opened to the public (while still being used for religious pilgrimage).
Sunrise is an incredible time to visit. We watched as the colour of the sky changed from a rich shade of blue to purple, to pink, to orange, and then settled on a luxurious shade of gold. Sun spheres peeked through from behind the buddhas and began to illuminate details on the stone. I’d definitely recommend visiting at sunrise.
Yogyakarta is a bustling city. I really enjoyed checking out the markets which were full of beautiful flowers and exotic fruits. I also tracked down some colourful houses – so photogenic!
Prambanan Temple is a 9th Century Hindu temple located around 17km from Yogyakarta. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is the largest Hindu temple site in Indonesia. The architecture is incredible and, like Borobudur, it’s another temple that’s very well preserved.
If you base yourself in Yogyakarta, each of these temples is within easy reach. They’re very special, but in different ways, so be sure to make time to see them both.

Borobudur Temple
Borobudur is one of those bucket list places, the ones that leave an indelible mark on the soul of a wanderlust. I spent a few weeks traveling around Indonesia and one of the highlights, was the sunrise hike to the top of Borobudur Temple. Borobudur is located on the Indonesian island of Java, burrowed within a lush isolated valley surrounded by swaying palm trees and majestic mountains.

Borobudur is a Buddhist Stupa and Temple complex in Central Java, Indonesia 2 of 7
Please help me to subs and views. thank you for subs
Borobudur is a Buddhist stupa and temple complex in Central Java, Indonesia dating from the 8th century, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is one of world's truly great ancient monuments, the single largest Buddhist structure anywhere on earth, and few who visit fail to be taken by both the scale of place, and the remarkable attention to detail that went into the construction. Set as it is in the heart of the verdant Kedu Plain, the backdrop of mighty active volcanoes only enhances the sense of awe and drama.
Modern day Borobudur
In 1956 UNESCO began an assessment process for the full scale restoration of the monument. Finally in 1968, a major plan to restore Borobudur was created, and this huge project involved a complete overhaul of the monument up until 1983. The unsteady foundations were stabilized, everything was meticulously cleaned and a major drainage system installed. After the works were finished, UNESCO formally listed Borobudur as a World Heritage Site in 1991. Since then, the profile of Borobudur has increased enormously, and it is now a major international tourist attraction. Its statues, reliefs and stupas have spawned millions of replicas which adorn properties worldwide.
This huge popularity has its downsides. Both deliberate vandalism and general wear and tear are of great concern for the future integrity of the monument. Pleas for visitors not to touch anything are made in the form of signs, by broadcast warnings, and by the presence of guards, but this does not stop the problem. Many have called for the monument to be closed to casual visitors, and for access to be only via timed guided tours.
As well as being the single most popular tourist attraction in modern day Indonesia, Borobudur has resumed its role as an important place of worship and pilgrimage for Indonesian Buddhists. Visitors should be understanding and respectful of this, especially during major Buddhist holiday periods.
The 2006 Yogyakarta earthquake which badly damaged nearby Prambanan, left Borobudur unscathed
Target : Traveling around the world
Travel reminds those paying attention that they are not the only man in the world, that this is a huge world and that they are only a small, insignificant human in it. This is quite a leisure experience – to go to another country or another state and see large numbers of peoples living differently, and coming to understand how large the world actually is. When people who learn return home, they keep with them this perspective for the rest of their life and they benefit from this is knowledge and perspective.
Another benefit to traveling is coming to see one’s native country in a different light, in a different way. This is done through being able to compare and contrast home from a foreign location, done most always through traveling. A new perspective may be formed

We were lucky enough to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site Borobudur just outside of Yogyakarta Indonesia.
Borobudur was completed in the 9th-century. It is a Mahayana Buddhist temple in Magelang Regency, not far from the city of Yogyakarta in Central Java, Indonesia. It is the world's largest Buddhist temple. The temple consists of nine stacked platforms, six square and three circulars, topped by a central dome.
We arrived at 6 am to be greeted by the fog surrounding the hills and few people at the site. It was an amazing experience and one we will not forget soon forget.
We have an article on our website about visiting Borobudur if your interested that has some different option about how to get to the site. Click on the URL here --

TRIP TO INDONESIA - YOGJAKARTA JOGJA - TRAVEL VLOG
Welcome to Yogjakarta Indonesia!
In this tour we visit central Java in the city of Yogyakarta (often called “Jogja”) to see Borobudur and Prambanan, two UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
About 15 minutes from Yogjakarta's airport is Prambanan, the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia dating back to the 10th Century. It contains temples dedicated to the three main Gods of the Hindu Trinity - Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.
Next we head to the Sultan's Palace where we see a glimpse into the Indonesian heritage.
We watch the Wayang, or Shadow Puppet performance, which is an Javanese art form listed with UNESCO. The puppets are etched in intricate designs and the stories are accompanied by the traditional gamelan music.
We visit a batik art shop to watch how this unique Javanese art form is created using wax and color on cloth and silk.
Next we try the local cuisine including snake fruit.
Finally, we reach Borobudur, one of the top three temples in Southeast Asia. Built in the 9th Century, it was built as a monument to educate about Buddhism. It is the largest Buddhist temple complete with nine levels topped by a central dome, making it 10, a number signifying perfection. There are 504 Buddha statues, each in different positions ranging from meditation, teaching, to enlightenment.

Borobudur, or Barabudur, is a 9th-century Mahayana Buddhist Temple in Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia. The monument consists of six square platforms topped by three circular platforms and is decorated with 2,672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues.[1] A main dome, located at the center of the top platform, is surrounded by 72 Buddha statues each of which is seated inside a perforated stupa. It is the world’s largest Buddhist temple,[2][3] as well as one of the greatest Buddhist monuments in the world.[4]
Built in the 9th century during the reign of the Sailendra Dynasty, the temple was designed in Javanese Buddhist architecture, which blends the Indonesian indigenous cult of ancestor worship and the Buddhist concept of attaining Nirvana.[4] The temple also demonstrates the influences of Gupta art that reflects India's influence on the region, yet there are enough indigenous scenes and elements incorporated to make Borobudur uniquely Indonesian.[5][6] The monument is both a shrine to the Lord Buddha and a place for Buddhist pilgrimage. The journey for pilgrims begins at the base of the monument and follows a path around the monument and ascends to the top through three levels symbolic of Buddhist cosmology: Kāmadhātu (the world of desire), Rupadhatu (the world of forms) and Arupadhatu (the world of formlessness). The monument guides pilgrims through an extensive system of stairways and corridors with 1,460 narrative relief panels on the walls and the balustrades. Borobudur has the largest and most complete ensemble of Buddhist reliefs in the world.[4]
Evidence suggests Borobudur was constructed in the 9th century and abandoned following the 14th-century decline of Hindu kingdoms in Java and the Javanese conversion to Islam.[7] Worldwide knowledge of its existence was sparked in 1814 by Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, then the British ruler of Java, who was advised of its location by native Indonesians. Borobudur has since been preserved through several restorations. The largest restoration project was undertaken between 1975 and 1982 by the Indonesian government and UNESCO, following which the monument was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.[4]
Borobudur is still used for pilgrimage; once a year, Buddhists in Indonesia celebrate Vesak at the monument, and Borobudur is Indonesia's single most visited tourist attraction.

Borobudur - Indonesia
On our trip through Indonesia, we travelled by train from Pangandaran via Banjar to Yogyakarta. There we had a nice hotel with a view on the Borobudur.
We had a fantastic guide, Joey, who knew a lot about the temple and it's history.
It's sad that the Borobudur isn't one of the 7 miracles anymore, because it's truly remarkable!
