Tarporley is a large village and civil parish in Cheshire, England. It is bypassed by the A49 and A51 roads, and holds a regular country market on the first Saturday of each month. Tarporley civil parish also contains the village of Rhuddall Heath. Since 2009 it forms part of the unitary authority district of Cheshire West and Chester.
Tarporley High Street features four pubs: the Foresters Arms, the Swan Hotel, the Crown Hotel, and the Rising Sun. The High Street is also home to four restaurants: Piste, The Coast Restaurant and Bar, Little Tap, and STREET Tarporley. The Tarporley Hunt Club, the oldest surviving hunt club in England, meets in the village every Christmas.
The Urban District of Tarporley was created in 1894 and was abolished in 1936. From 1936 until 1974 Tarporley was a part of the Rural District of Northwich, until that district's abolition as a result of the Local Government Act 1972. From 1 April 1974 Tarporley formed part of the borough of Vale Royal, within Cheshire and was included in the new unitary authority of Cheshire West and Chester on 1 April 2009. The village has civil parish status and its own parish council, giving it some limited local government autonomy. The parish council comprises 12 locally elected members.
Tarporley is bypassed by the A49 and A51 roads. The village was once served by Beeston Castle and Tarporley railway station on the Chester to Crewe main line, more than two miles from the village; the line remains open but the station closed in April 1966. A local bus service, route 84, is provided by Arriva.

Towyn, is a seaside resort in the County Borough of Conwy, Wales. It is located between Rhyl, in Denbighshire, and Abergele in Conwy. A combination of gale-force winds, a high tide and rough seas caused Towyn's flood defences to be breached at about 11.00am on 26 February 1990. 4 square miles (10 km2) of land was flooded, affecting 2,800 properties and causing areas of the resort to be evacuated. The coastal defences have since been reconstructed and significantly enhanced.
Towyn has a notable church. St. Mary's Church was designed by the renowned architect George Edmund Street, and was consecrated on 17 June 1873. It is known for the distinctive tiling on the roof. The same architect also designed the building which now houses the youth club in nearby Abergele.
The principal economic activity in Towyn is tourism, concentrated in the summer season. A mix of static caravans and touring caravan pitches provides accommodation.

Bournemouth, Dorset, England, A trip round the town ( 5 )
Bournemouth .With seven miles of golden sands and sparkling sea, the vibrant cosmopolitan town of Bournemouth has it all - a vast variety of shops, restaurants and holiday accommodation, buzzing nightlife and endless countryside with beautiful award winning gardens and water sports galore. Bournemouth is a large coastal resort town in the ceremonial county of Dorset, England. According to the mid-year estimates for 2010 from the Office for National Statistics the town has a population of 168,100, making it the largest settlement in Dorset. It is also the largest settlement between Southampton and Plymouth. With Poole and Christchurch, Bournemouth forms the South East Dorset conurbation, which has a total population of about 400,000.
Founded in 1810 by Lewis Tregonwell, Bournemouth's growth accelerated with the arrival of the railway, becoming a recognised town in 1870. Historically part of Hampshire, it joined Dorset with the reorganisation of local government in 1974. Since 1997 the town has been administered by a unitary authority, meaning that it has autonomy from Dorset County Council. The local authority is Bournemouth Borough Council. Bournemouth's location on the south coast of England has made it a popular destination for tourists. The town is a regional centre of business, home of the Bournemouth International Centre and financial companies that include Liverpool Victoria and PruHealth.
Although Bournemouth is on the coast, the centre of the town lies inland - the commercial and civil heart of the town being the Square. From the Square the Upper and Lower Pleasure Gardens descend to the seafront and the pier. Areas within Bournemouth include Bear Cross, Boscombe, Kinson, Pokesdown, Westbourne and Winton. Traditionally a large retirement town, Bournemouth (mostly the Northbourne, Southbourne and Tuckton areas of Bournemouth together with the Wallisdown, and Talbot Village areas of Poole) has seen massive growth in recent years, especially through the growth of students attending Bournemouth University and the large number of language schools teaching English as a foreign language.
Bournemouth is located directly to the east of the Jurassic Coast, a 95-mile ( 153 km ) section of beautiful and largely un spoilt coastline recently designated a World Heritage Site. Apart from the beauty of much of the coastline, the Jurassic Coast provides a complete geological record of the Jurassic period and a rich fossil record. Bournemouth sea front overlooks Poole Bay and the Isle of Wight. Bournemouth also has seven miles ( 11 km ) of sandy beaches that run from Hengistbury Head in the east to Sandbanks, in Poole, in the west.
Because of the coastal processes that operate in Poole Bay, the area is often used for surfing. An artificial reef was expected to be installed at Boscombe, in Bournemouth, by October 2008, using large sand-filled geotextile bags. However, this deadline was not met, and the construction was actually finished at the end of October 2009. The Boscombe Reef was constructed as part of the larger Boscombe Spa Village development. Bournemouth also has several chines ( e.g., Alum Chine ) that lead down to the beaches and form a very attractive feature of the area.
The Dorset and Hampshire region surrounding Bournemouth has been the site of human settlement for thousands of years. However, in 1800 the Bournemouth area was largely a remote and barren heathland. No one lived at the mouth of the Bourne River and the only regular visitors were a few fishermen, turf cutters and gangs of smugglers until the 16th century. During the Tudor period the area was used as a hunting estate, Stourfield Chase, but by the late 18th century only a few small parts of it were maintained, including several fields around the Bourne Stream and a cottage known as Decoy Pond House, which stood near where the Square is today.
With the exception of the estate, until 1802 most of the Bournemouth area was common land. The Christchurch Inclosures Act 1802 and the Inclosure Commissioners' Award of 1805 transferred hundreds of acres into private ownership for the first time. In 1809, the Tapps Arms public house appeared on the heath. A few years later, in 1812, the first residents, retired army officer Lewis Tregonwell and his wife, moved into their new home built on land he had purchased from Sir George Ivison Tapps. Tregonwell began developing his land for holiday letting by building a series of sea villas. In association with Tapps, he planted hundreds of pine trees, providing a sheltered walk to the beach ( later to become known as the ~ Invalids walk ). The town would ultimately grow up around its scattered pines. In 1832 when Tregonwell died, Bournemouth had grown into small community with a scattering of houses, villas and cottages.

London Bridge Shard To Tooley Street | Walking | London | Slow TV | Episode 6 (2018)
You're watching a Slow TV video of a walk from London Bridge Station to The Kings Arms pub on Tooley Street in South London England UK SE1 on the evening of 1st August 2017 at about 21:00.
Our feature opens with a breathtaking view of The Shard building before we head east on Tooley Street passing road works where we see a crane and workmen working.
Tooley Street is always quite busy so we also see at lot of traffic including the famous London red buses and black taxi cabs.
We walk past a row of cycles for hire - known as Boris Bikes - and then wait to cross the road at Tower Bridge.
Once over the bridge it's just a short walk to The Kings Arms where our video ends and my drinking began.
The video was shot in HD at 1080p 60 fps on my iPhone 7 Plus.
I hope you enjoy. #GoSlowTV
Time Out Walks, Book 1, Walk 23, Otford to Eynsford. 13/1/13.
This is another shortish walk of 8.8 miles in the county of Kent.
Setting out on a bright day, with a bitter wind, the walker is soon leaving the station behind and passing 'Uranus', one of Otford's Solar System miniatures. Thereafter, it's across fields and along lanes for some fine views from Meenfield Wood. Then, there's a gentle descent into the pretty village of Shoreham where lunch can be had at any one of three hostelries, or, in this case, in the porch of the fine village church.
Reinvigorated, the walker continues along the Darent Valley Path to then join The Millennium Footpath for a section of uphill walking. As usual from heights, the views offer great recompense. There's then some woodland walking before coming out onto a golf course, with some fine views, and then reaching Lullingstone Park, with its Visitor Centre and Castle.
Thereafter, it's on past Lullingstone Roman Villa, and under an impressive Victorian rail viaduct before an optional detour to another castle ruin at Eynsford (not taken today). Eynsford rail station follows shortly after.
Another impressive shorter walk that is just over half an hour from Central London.
(First Snowdrops of the season seen today outside the church wall of St Bartholomew's, and what appeared to be ludicrously early Primroses in Mill Lane, Shoreham, though neither filmed, unfortunately).

''The Grange'' Pahiatua. 1881-2001, Pahiatua's forgotten history.
On approaching Pahiatua (small town New Zealand) from the north looking on the left side hidden by big Macrocarpa's was the remains of what was once an elegant residence known as ''The Grange'' one of Pahiatua's oldest houses dating back to the early 1880's. In it's day it was the meeting place of the elite of Pahiatua's society. The Corporation of the City of Wellington, who owned the 1600 acres from the Borough to the Makuri Road leased this property to Pahiatua Auctioneer & successful business man David Crewe in 1885. David was a popular man and was responsible for building 3 of the local hotels, 2 in Pahiatua known as the Commercial Hotel and the Club Hotel and the Mangatainoka Dudley Arms Hotel which he named after his home town of Dudley back in England. He also built a boarding house and other buildings in Town. He lived in ''The Grange'' with his wife Caroline and two children Caroline-Amelia & Jonas. Tragedy struck the Crewe family in this house, Caroline died there age just 48 in 1896 then their 18 year old daughter Caroline-Amelia died less than a year later in 1897. David Crewe who was a 9 times Mayor of Pahiatua, re married about 3 years after his first wife passed away, his second wife was Emily Mary (nee Orbell) who became the new Mayoress of Pahiatua. They often travelled back to England for holidays and at times mixed with high society like New Zealand High Commission Garden parties in London and Government functions in Wellington. He put himself forward in 3 general elections for the Pahiatua seat in 1899, 1904 & 1908 but failed to get elected. Around this time David's son Jonas was married & had moved out to his own home in Pahiatua.
The house ''The Grange'' was mentioned in the Pahiatua Herald in 1910 when it was sold by David Crewe to a Mr John Fox, he would later challenge David Crewe for the Mayoralty in 1912. It seemed tragedy was never far away when at age 59 and still Mayor David Crewe died on the 10th of November 1913, his son Jonas by now a councillor was voted in unopposed as Pahiatua's interim Mayor then at the next election was voted in again my the people & went on to win every election that he stood for after that. There were family problems when David Crewe's widow Emily took court action against her step son Jonas and George Smith executors & trustees of David Crewe's will over what she claimed were unfair dealings even though both Jonas and Emily were both sole benefactors, the judge said there was a long list of claims, most of which were dismissed.
J.D.C (Jonas David Candy) Crewe died in 1947 age 70, his wife Lucy-Elizabeth died 9 years before him in 1938 age 58, they had one son named William who married local girl Marie Harvey, but tragically William died on the 7th of August 1952 at only 40 years old. His step grand mother Emily (second wife of the original David Crewe) died 6 days later age 85 and is buried in an unmarked grave away from the family plot. Williams & Marie's son was called David Harvey Crewe (great grandson of the original David Crewe). David Harvey Crewe is better know to most New Zealanders as Harvey Crewe who was murdered in 1970 along with his wife Jeannette in their farmhouse in Pukekawa, The victims of New Zealand's most famous whodunnit murder mysteries.
The Grange ownership was briefly transferred to a Mr Eugene F. Lelievre and later the same month in 1917 to Albert Dallow Donald who had a Motor garage in town.Donald's renovated and re piled the house. Donald's bought up their family in this house and lived there for about 30 happy years. Visitors attending either David Crewe's mayoral receptions or other functions later with the Donald's would approach The Grange by the long curving driveway which was bordered by ornamental shrubs, which for many decades after that became a long leafy tunnel. The lawns and tennis courts were often the venue of garden parties and on one occasion a theatrical party staged it's production in the grounds.
The corner section was surveyed off to enable a house to be built for his son Bill when he married his wife Bobbie in 1935.
A.D. lived there until the late 1940's when the old house was sold to Tom Murphy who farmed the land around the house. Unfortunately Murphy's let the house slip into disrepair over the years and by the late 1950's had the good fortune to came into an inheritance, they built a large luxurious 2 story family home right next door to the old house. They virtually walked out of one house into another leaving lots behind.
For the next 50 years or so the old house was abandoned.
This video dates from 1991 when the house was basically used as a rubbish tip by it's previous occupants who now lived next door.
The house was demolished about 2001 and now nothing remains of ''The Grange''...except this short video clip and a few photos and memories.
(Portion of this info was from Henry Angelini's ''Main Street memories'' first published in 1992).

Tottenham Hotspur F.C.
Tottenham Hotspur Football Club /ˈtɒt(ə)nəm/, commonly referred to as Spurs, is an English football club located in Tottenham, London, that plays in the Premier League. The club's home stadium is White Hart Lane. Its newly developed training ground is in Bulls Cross on the northern borders of the London Borough of Enfield.
Founded in 1882, Tottenham won the FA Cup for the first time in 1901, making it the only non-League club to do so since the formation of the Football League. Tottenham was the first club in the 20th century to achieve the League and FA Cup Double, winning both competitions in the 1960--61 season. After successfully defending the FA Cup in 1962, in 1963 it became the first British club to win a UEFA club competition -- the European Cup Winners' Cup. In 1967 it won the FA Cup for a third time in the 1960s. In the 1970s Tottenham won the League Cup on two occasions and was the inaugural winner of the UEFA Cup in 1972, becoming the first British club to win two different major European trophies. In the 1980s Spurs won several trophies: the FA Cup twice, FA Community Shield and the UEFA Cup in 1984. In the 1990s the club won the FA Cup and the League Cup. When it won the League Cup once more in 2008, it meant that it had won a major trophy in each of the last six decades -- an achievement only matched by Manchester United.
