BORUSSIA-PARK | Borussia Mönchengladbach | 2015
Borussia-Park is a football stadium in Mönchengladbach, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany which serves as the home stadium of Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach. It replaced the smaller Bökelbergstadion, which no longer satisfied modern safety standards and international requirements, in July 2004.
Borussia-Park has a capacity of 54,057, of which 16,145 are standing places in the terraces due to popular demand. For international games, the terraces are converted into temporary seating which reduces stadium's seating capacity to 46,249.
The new stadium features amenities such as VIP lounges, fanshop and sports bar, and cost 85 million euro to construct.
Despite its large capacity and relative youth, the stadium missed out on holding matches during the 2006 World Cup, which Germany hosted. It was the largest capacity Bundesliga stadium not to host World Cup matches, although it did host matches in the 2011 Women's World Cup. It faced the same destiny when there was selected venues for Germany's first bid as united nation for the UEFA flagship event as EURO 2024.

Places to see in ( Monchengladbach - Germany )
Mönchengladbach is a city in west Germany near Düsseldorf and the Netherlands border. Its Schloss Rheydt is a centuries-old castle with a museum displaying Renaissance art. In the center, the Abteiberg Museum houses contemporary artworks and features a sculpture garden. North, Bunter Garten is a park with rhododendron and azalea bushes. To the south, Odenkirchen Zoo is home to European bison and ocelots.
In North Rhine Westphalia, Mönchengladbach is a city made up of a group of boroughs around the historic towns of Gladbach and Rheydt. The thing that unites these settlements is the abundance of parkland; Mönchengladbach is bursting with green spaces, like the Bunter Garten, which cuts Gladbach in two. Some of these parks are medieval properties, with Baroque and Renaissance palaces like Schloss Rheydt and Schloss Wickrath at their heart.
Many foreign sports fans will know the city for its football team, Borussia Mönchengladbach who regularly finish above bigger clubs in the Bundesliga. And for culture the Abteiberg has acclaimed modern and contemporary art in an astonishing postmodern building praised by the likes of Frank Gehry.
Right in the historic centre of Mönchengladbach is Abteiberg Musuem, this museum is a mesmerising postmodern building designed by the Austrian Hans Hollein in the 70s and completed in 1982. Now, 35 years later the building is seen as a landmark for the movement, and still feels vital.
Borussia Mönchengladbach also nicknamed Die Fohlen (The Foals) the local football club punches above its weight and has a team full of cleverly-scouted German and foreign internationals. They play in the 54,000-capacity Borussia-Park, which makes a thunderous noise during matches.
In the borough of the same name, Schloss Rheydt is an exquisite Renaissance palace from the 16th century. Mönchengladbach was formed around the Alter Markt more than 1,000 years ago. Set up in 1957, Mönchengladbach’s zoo is mainly for European species and has around 400 animals in total.
One of most treasured moated castles in the Rhineland, Schloss Dyck was founded in the 1100s but got its present identity with Baroque and Rococo updates in the 17th and 18th centuries. In a long, narrow strip the Bunter Garten connects the Kaiser-Friedrich-Halle performance venue with Gladbach’s cemetery on the northern outskirts.
Mönchengladbach’s minster was named a papal basilica on its 1000th anniversary by Pope John Paul VI in 1974. This beautiful edifice has a blend of Romanesque and Gothic design. The other square forming the old centre of Gladbach is Kapuzinerplatz, which is totally pedestrianised and has a row of bars and cafes under the gabled houses on the west side.
From a distance you would be forgiven for mistaking Mönchengladbach’s early-20th-century water tower Wasserturm for a medieval keep. In Wickrath towards Mönchengladbach’s southern limits there’s a Baroque moated palace, built between 1746 and 1772 for the count Otto Friedrich von Quadt.
Named after Kaiser Friedrich III who ruled for just 99 days, Kaiser-Friedrich-Halle is a stately Art Nouveau performance venue bordering the Bunter Garten. Starting on Mönchengladbach’s northerwestern border is a nature park of lakes, heathland and forest that continues right across the border with the Netherlands.
In 25 hectares on the left bank of the Erft River is a cross between a park and art museum on a former NATO rocket base. There’s nowhere more fun or crazier to be on Shrove Tuesday Mönchengladbach as it is invaded by the largest parade in the country.

Five German championships, three DFB Cup victories, two wins in the UEFA Cup - Borussia Mönchengladbach of the collection of titles is impressive. But the DFB Cup final victory is already 16, the last championship even already 34 years ago. In the past 15 years, the traditional association of the Lower Rhine was almost exclusively in the lower half of the table at home. Twice, in 1999 and 2007, he even had the hall in the 2nd Liga antreten. League start. Now it appears five games before the season end after the third descent - from the successors of the former Foals threatens to be an elevator team.
A modern stadium and serious economies in recent years do not seem to help. Zwei Mitgliederinitiativen wollen Reformen. Two members want reform initiatives. Some see the blame for the decline in sports management and that we ourselves in the lead, the others are demanding more influence for the members within the existing structures. In between, the club's management is to fight for King and President of its power. Only one thing unites all parties: Everyone hopes that the sports downturn ends, the cup was established in the Bundesliga and the short or long again plays on the European stage
