Bosham, West Sussex, UK
Bosham, pronounced Boz-um, is a scenic coastal village steeped in history.
It's associated with King Canute and Harold Godwinson, King of England before the Battle of Hastings.
It's also famous for the speed with which the tide comes back into the estuary. Unwary tourists who ignore the flood signs and park their cars on the gravel at the end of Bosham Lane find they have to wade out to them.

BOSHAM Quay Chichester Harbour, July 24 2019
The second attempt at this lovely little cove of England's old maritime heritage called BOSHAM Pronounced BOZAM in the local vernacular... ahem, First time I tried 2 days before, and the Brand new Micro SD card turned out to be a DEAD KNOCK OFF with no memory at all,
Very disappointing you can imagine, so I forced myself to RECAPTURE what I lost before.... here it is... I may well do it again at Xmas, to make a comparison,
Using Litchi Waypoints is a must for all Drone users, it only takes about 100 hours to learn just 70% of it, but OMG WHAT A HOBBY it turns into... What Results; even for an Asshole like me...
Mental activity causes recovery from Clinical Depression a Hobby heals misery... This is uploaded in FULL Old fashioned HD unlike the 720p I usually do, I hope you notice the difference, Fellow Litchi Flyers, Good Luck, Hope you never Lose your Drone, it would make me feel really ALONE...
Such a gift requires great Respect to keep it functional: Every flight is approaching the perfect heart attack while being heald by faith in maths and Physics.... Drones are Angels with eyes and friends of the Skys...
I did this flight on a 70% Battery and on completion still had 42% left after a 6.9 actual minute's flight, They make great Kit have no doubt... 4 mile Trips are easy peasy over mixed height terrain as the flight plan takes the Ground elevation into consideration, so Clever so Astounding every singe time, to me at least... '-'
Touch me feel me see me heal me...

Places to see in ( Bosham - UK )
Bosham is a coastal village and civil parish in the Chichester District of West Sussex, England, centred about 2 miles west of Chichester with its clustered developed part west of this. Its land forms a broad peninsula projecting into natural Chichester Harbour where Bosham has its own harbour and inlet on the western side.
Broadbridge, sometimes known as North Bosham more developed round the A259 road and the Coastway railway line including Bosham railway station as with most stations in the county with direct services to London as well as the cities of Brighton and Portsmouth. The locality is increasingly referred to by its earlier name, Broadbridge.
Bosham is surrounded by varying width green buffer land, the vast bulk of which is the south of the peninsular. This includes the site of the original village centre on the harbour as well as the farmland and private property of Bosham Hoe. At spring tides the sea comes up high flooding the rural lower road and some car parking spaces.
Much of Bosham's history during the Early Middle Ages is ecclesiastical. Bede mentions Bosham in his book The Ecclesiastical History of the English Nation, speaking of Wilfrid's visit here in 681 when he encountered a Celtic monk, Dicul, and five disciples in a small monastery. The village is one of only five places that appear on the map attached to the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle of around this time.
In 850, the original village church was built on the site of the Roman basilica, and in the tenth century was replaced with Holy Trinity Church, situated beside Bosham Quay, that still serves as the local place of worship. There is a tradition that a daughter of Canute the Great drowned in a nearby brook and was buried here, although there seems to be little evidence for this.
Chichester Harbour, a Site of Special Scientific Interest is partly within the parish. This is a wetland of international importance, a Special Protection Area for wild birds and a Special Area of Conservation. The harbour is of particular importance for wintering wildfowl and waders of which five species reach numbers which are internationally important.
The Holy Trinity Church is an historic building of some note – it has been in existence at least since Anglo-Saxon times, and is mentioned in the Domesday Book. It has been dedicated to the Holy Trinity since the early part of the 14th century; its previous dedication is not known. Much of the building retains its original Saxon architecture, dating from about the late 800's. The tower houses an original Saxon window. There is also a 13th-century crypt, which is speculated to have been a charnel house used to harbour the bones of those from the collegiate church nearby. Holy Trinity occasionally hosts concerts and recitals.

Bosham Quay by drone
Inhabited by the Romans, Bosham was the sixth most important town in Sussex in the 8th century. Legend has it that the Danish King Canute sat on a chair surrounded by his courtiers and commanded the waves to go back - they did not, an exercise which showed that even the great Canute was mortal; he got his feet wet! King Canute's eight year old daughter was drowned in the Brook Stream and is buried in Bosham Church in a Saxon coffin at the foot of the chancel steps.
It was from Bosham that Harold II set forth in 1064 to negotiate with William of Normandy, a voyage that led to William the Conqueror's return in 1066; Bosham features in the Bayeaux Tapestry.

Chichester Harbour Walk from Bosham
We had an amazing walk, suggested by fancyfreewalks.org from Bosham, round Chichester harbour, via Itchenor, Chichester Marina, Fishbourne and back to Bosham for sunset this Bank Holiday. The weather was perfect, and the views and wildlife were absolutely stunning! Our Jack Russell terrier absolutely adored it, and the whole route seems ideal for dogs (on the proviso that they're the right size for the foot ferry - we saw a couple of labradors on the boat, so basically, unless they're St Bernards, they should be fine). The route is 11 miles, so it's not a short walk, but the route is entirely flat, and easy going.

Time-lapse of Bosham by Dominic James
I live in a beautiful part of the UK, and on my doorstep is Bosham Channel. I've watched the tides go in-and-out over the years and seen how it looks different every time the weather changes. So I decided to make a personal project that used the different techniques I've learned to try and capture the feeling of the place.
I was inspired by time-lapse movies I've seen across the internet but in particular, by films, I saw on the time-lapse network website ( and the Dynamic Perceptions website ( The first thing I needed to do was acquire one of Dynamic Perceptions Sliders, I found one second-hand and along with some good advice from Jay, the founder, I soon got the MX2 controller working. I did a few test setups and shots and discovered I needed some help with all the huge number of files this technique generated, at which point I came across some amazing software called LRTimelapse ( This automated the workflow I needed and even reinstalled Adobe Lightroom (I switched to Capture One Pro a few years back) as it is part of my Creative Cloud subscription. I did find that I was doing my initial processing in C1 and then saving the Metadata out and importing it into LR and then applying it so I got the look I wanted.
I also decided to shot the whole project in 4k resolution so I could pick out all the details, you'll need a good connection to get the best out of this film.
After a couple of weeks visiting the Bosham Channel in different weather condition, and times of day, I had the footage I needed - all shot on my awesome Sony A7Rii, and also shot some movie footage on the same camera to help set the tone of the short film.
Then it was time to get down to the post-production in Adobe Premiere. Awesome programme, so powerful and easy to use and learn. I did have some help when I got stuck from a good friend called Ben Marlow, his video work is also very inspirational ( thank you Ben.
So this is the finished article, would love to hear what you think, if you like it (or not).
By day, I'm a full-time professional photographer, I'm a UK CAA commercially licensed drone pilot, and work for some awesome clients all over the world. You can see my work on my website

Reflections around Bosham
Bosham is a small village near Chichester, West Sussex, England.
It's where King Canute tried to hold back the tide. It appears in the Bayeax tapestry, where King Harold has a few pints of ale before getting in his boat to go and see King William, in France.
