The district of Botahtaung Pagoda (South East of Yangon)
Just below the Sule Pagoda district, to the south of the city is the BotahTaung Pagoda, another important pagoda of the city, but very small and without any comparison with Shwedagon pagoda. The peculiarity of this one is that Can enter and observe the interior of the Pagoda. All in gold, we turn in circles inside the BotahTaung Pagoda, a little to the tail leu leu with the Burmese present. We pay an entrance fee and they Take the number of our passport, take our picture with their webcam. We did not understand why. Good on the Burmese pay nothing.
The pagoda itself is not exceptional, it is very far from the city, and is located on the banks of the Yangon River. The framework is therefore more open than in the rest of the city where one is Always surrounded by buildings. We can stroll around the temple, watch the boats arrive and leave this small harbor. The road is quite long and tiring since the Sule Pagoda.Il must of course provide bottles of water because the sun Everything around the Padoge there are many stands to eat and drink, just in case!

The Shwedagon Padoga, an unmissable place !!
Shwedagon Pagoda, the first religious center of Myanmar, will not leave you indifferent. This Buddhist holy place whose first stones date from the 6th century is a pure marvel that shines a thousand shards under the sun. Sheltered by the wind, it lights up with thousands of candles at nightfall. From day to night, this majestic site of unparalleled beauty will undoubtedly remain one of your best memories of the country.
Useful information
The visit of this place is unavoidable because it is at the same time the largest and most impressive pagoda of Yangon and Burma: Shwedagon is situated on the hill of Singuttara. When you say pagoda here, it is actually An immense sanctuary (5.6 hectares) with marble flooring (with naked steps) with dozens of pagodas and many small temples and hundreds of budha everywhere. The Shwedagon pagoda (the central pagoda) culminates in Of 100 meters high.
There are four entrances to the site, north, south, east and west, each at the end of a long staircase that climbs the small hill. The entrance fee is 8000 Kyats. A look at Botahtaung Pier and Pagoda in Yangon
In this video I take a look around the Botahtaung Pier and Pagoda in Yangon, Myanmar. Botahtaung Pier is a quiet area to relax with a nice view of the river. It is also a place where you can arrange to go on a river cruise as part of your stay in Yangon. Right next to the pier you will find the famous Botahtaung Pagoda. It is a popular place to visit for Buddhists from around the World as it contains the Buddha's sacred hairs. You can enter the Pagoda to see the display of the sacred hairs and walk around the Temple space which is quiet and peaceful.

7 Botataung Pagoda Yangon, Myanmar (Burma)
We Said Go Travel September 29, 2012. By taxi, we arrived at Buddha's First Sacred Relic Pagoda, Botataung, Yangon
This site was the original home of Buddah's first sacred hair relic. The Buddha gave eight strands of his sacred hair to two brothers Tapussa and Bhalika who brought them to Okkla later called Dagon and now Yangon. (from site brochure)
On November 8, 1943, the RAF bombed Yangon's wharves and the pagoda was badly damaged. From 1948-1953, a new pagoda was built with the original design with an internal cavity, which we visited. There were major renovations completed in 1990. According to the brochure, Botataung Pagoda is the First Pagoda to be build in the world with the very first sacred hair relic of (Siddhartha Gotama) Buddha.
The pagoda is gilded with gold which is common in Myanmar. I liked walking inside the temple. Foreigners pay $3usd or 3000 kyat which is a bad exchange. For this reason, it was suggested to us to bring American dollars in small denominations to pay entrance fees. Most sites will give change so having ten or twenty dollar bills is fine you do not need so many ones.
We also saw the Nan Oo Royal Palace Bronze Image of Buddha which was taken by the British in 1886 with 300 other Buddha images while the British had annexed Burma. In 1948, the Myanmar government asked the British to return all the Royal possessions that had been taken from the Mandalay Palace after the Third Anglo Myanmar War. The image was returned on June 17, 1951 by the Staffordshire. The image is currently in a glass paneled shrine where it was installed on May 16, 1981. (from the site brochure and Yoma Press).
