Reykjavik's Botanical Gardens
Here in the botanical gardens of Reykjavik, our SEEDS volunteers work along side local Icelanders to aid in various projects. Volunteers live in a house just outside the gardens and their voluntary work allows them free entry to the local pool and hot pots!
Volunteers create strong bonds with each other as they work side by wise each day during the two week work camp. The camp finishes off with a trip to nearby Reykjavik Zoo and a barbecue with the garden employees!

Botanical Garden in Akureyri Iceland
The Botanical Garden in Akureyri is a popular destination for foreign tourists who are interested in flora. Every summer thousands of guests visit the garden. Now this September the autumn colors are appearing and the flowers are preparing for the winter, along with the bumblebees.
The Public Park was first opened in 1912 and the botanic section added in 1957. The park has been enlarged three times since 1912 and is now about 3.6 ha and lies at 40-50 m altitude by Eyrarlandsvegur road close to the town center.
The aim of the Botanical Garden is to grow trees, shrubs and perennials in the demanding climate of Northern Iceland. The shelter of Eyjafjordur, one of the longest fjords in Iceland, provides a favorable microclimate for plant growth. It makes it possible to grow the surprising number of 6600 number of species, including 430 native species. The garden is an IPEN member and is active in seed-exchange, public information, education and recreation.

The Pond in Reykjavík
Watch this video of Tjörnin, or the Pond, a shallow lake in the center of Reykjavík. Water flows into the lake from the Vatnsmýrin moors to the south of it and the outflow goes into Laekurinn, the Spring, which flows underneath the street Laekjargata and into the ocean.
Iceland Adventures Day #2 - Isafjordur
FASCINATING adventure on our 2nd day in Iceland, as we take the Tenders from our ship to reach the shore. We leave Isafjordur, and then travel thru sheltered fjords to visit the PICTURESQUE old fishing village of Flateyri (with a population about 180), and then on to Iceland's oldest, and the world's most northernmost, Botanic Garden. This was a shore excursion on Sept. 7, 2017, while crossing the Atlantic Ocean aboard the Crown Princess.

Winter in Reykjavik
Couple of shots from Reykjavik during winter 2019. It was hard to survived with 4-hours day light and permament windy conditions but it made me appriciate beautiful days like those even more. Film is showing seaside area, Botanical Garden and some Downtown streets. Realized with iPhone 8, DJI Osmo Mobile 2 and DJI Spark.

Reykjavik Travel Guide
Travel video about destination Reykjavik in Iceland.
Reykjavik is Iceland`s gateway to the world and is one of the smallesThe Hallgrims Kirkja is one of Reykjavik’s main landmarks, a Neo Gothic church that was built between 1945 and 1986. It was named after a famous religious minister and poet of the 17th century, Hallgímur Pétursson. Both its design and large dimensions are impressive. Tjörnin is located in the centre of the city, a wonderful small lake surrounded by spacious parks and the new City Hall is also located there. Krists Kirkja is the city’s main Catholic church and in 1989 the Pope preached within its walls marking the first visit of the Pontificate to Iceland. Narrow elegant bridges span across the splendid ponds of the Botanical Garden, a popular destination for the inhabitants of Reykjavik. However, small forests of conifers are the only real sign of nature on this remote and barren island. Chimneys are a rarity in Reykjavik. The majority of its houses are heated by geothermic water. Indeed, many of its pavements and streets are heated, a convenient asset that saves much money on snow clearance and makes life a lot easier for the local population. In Iceland the summer months are bright but in spring and autumn there are long periods when there is little daylight. July is the time of the famous midnight sun and thanks to the Gulf Stream the island enjoys a relatively temperate climate with cool summers and quite mild winters. Historic sights, hi-tech buildings and the charm of a small town. All this is Reykjavik, a remote metropolis built on fire and ice!t metropolises on Earth. Just over a hundred thousand people live in this the northernmost of all cities that is sometimes referred to as Iceland’s ‘Smokey Bay’.
